does anyone know of a reliable one handed ps5 controller? my father is now an amputee and i'm currently working to get him a ps5 for when he gets better, so i'd like a good controller to keep him on the grind lol
-
I would ask
I feel like they’d be the best at answering this. 🙂ID: h36doyoID: h36zq4pNot quite the same but there was a video somewhere of a dude playing black ops 4 zombies I think, who was blind. Like just going of audio and got to pretty decent waves iirc
ID: h379955Thanks so much for this my wife can only use 1 arm after her stroke (she plays PC so alot more options) so will be great to see what is out there (Just to be a bigger pain in the ass its her left hand she can use lol
ID: h37cn29ablegamers.org used to be a helpful resource too. I haven't used it in a while though.

there might be a way you can get the Xbox Adaptive Controller to work on the PS5, but other than that I have no idea.
ID: h35r724Yeah I thought I remember hearing someone saying you’re able to use it on there but I might be wrong
ID: h35yf4rYes get a brook PS4 adapter, the Xbox Adaptive controller is compatible with that.
ID: h35w92lThe xim apex or Cronus max can make it work. (The ones people use to KBM/macro on console)
ID: h36g1ksI'm not sure you could get it to work with ps5 games though.
not sure how this was downvoted, the Dual sense hasn't been broken yet so you need a "specialty" controller to get the Apex to work on PS5 games, otherwise it only works on PS4 games played on PS5.
I just have no clue if using the specialty controller in conjunction with the Accessibility controller will work
ID: h36osnuThe Titan Two and XIM have a way around PS5's controller security, you do need a third party PS4 controller with a security chip to do it though.
-
The Xbox adaptive controller, and a Xim Apex or Cronus Max. Yea it’s pricey, but that’s basically your only easily obtainable option for console gaming.
-
Only recommending because there’s a legitimate need here, but you can purchase an adapter called a XIM Apex that allows you to use peripherals other than the PlayStation controllers. The device is third party, and currently you have to hook it to a list of compatible controllers.
Once it’s set up, though, I can see you getting him rolling via a mouse with many buttons or a mouse plus some other type of device.
-
Unfortunately, like the other comments have said Xbox adaptive controller seems to be able to work for a lot of needs like the one you described.
I would look into whether or not you can use a converter like the Brook Super converter to get the Xbox adaptive controller to work on a PS5. The converters are usually at least $40 but I’ve had good luck with them. I don’t know if it will work for what I suggested but it’s something to look into.
I don’t even fully understand HOW the Xbox adaptive controller works so that’s another rabbit hole you’ll have to go down
ID: h37t9u2What's unfortunate about the Xbox adaptive controller working?
-
You’re a good son
-
Honestly? I think the Xbox has better accessories for these situations.
ID: h36qegvYeah, it feels weird to say this in a PlayStation sub but getting him an Xbox instead of PS5 seems like the best option here. Microsoft is way ahead of everybody else on the accessibility front.
I haven't used any of the adapters people are suggesting on here, but if OP goes down that route, I'd strongly suggest investigating the extent to which they add to controller latency. My past experience with cross-platform controller adapters has been pretty terrible for this reason.
ID: h386pcsPlus if you play with a monitor, PS5 still somehow doesn't have a 1440p option but both the Xboxs do. Sony is really shooting themselves in the foot with not enabling 1440p. I want to use my high hertz monitor not my 30 hertz TV.
ID: h3639tpGet a xim apex and then you can use the Xbox adaptive controller. People like to shit on xim but it’s especially useful for people with disabilities and Obsiv has made sure to support these specialty controller with it.
ID: h368z3dDon’t adaptive inputs only register as PS4? I was under the impression no current third party controllers work at all for PS5 games.
I would also second the recommendation for an Xbox for the OP. Their accessibility options are bar none the greatest.

Don’t know about this kind of controller for ps5. But xbox has this kind of adaptive controller. Which you can by separately and compatible with xbox consoles and maybe also pcs here is a link
-
Buy an xbox adaptive controller and a cronus zen to use the xbox adaptive controller on ps5.
-
You can connect one-hand controllers or accessibility device to a PC and use Remote Play to control your PS5 through.
As for the device, there are many out there. MS adaptative controller seems great, but you should choose based based on the type of games you'd like to play.
Any budget PC will do, but if your device uses Bluetooth, your would PC need a BT adapter.
Tips:
You can use software like DS4Windows to map your device inputs to PS buttons. You can connect both the PS5 and the PC to the same screen and just switch input source when needed. You won't be actually watch the Remote Screen screen, but the "real" screen displayed by the PS5, so don't worry about additional screen lag. Input lag from controller to PS5 is unnoticeable if the PS5 and PC are connected through ethernet on the same network. -
PlayStation needs to make an adaptive controller ASAP.
I thought they would start working on one as soon as Microsoft launched their version.
-
Who the fuck downvoted this.
It's a legitimate ps5 question, this sub is insane.
ID: h35uwbyHalf of reddit votes are bots
ID: h36s1zoI'm more suprised the mods haven't removed this like they do with everything that's posted onto this sub
ID: h36nragYou gotta relax if you’re taking downvotes so seriously

I’ve found that I can play one handed by using my pinky finger for the left triggers and left buttons, ring finger for select, middle finger for start, index finger for right triggers and right buttons, palm for left analog stick and thumb for right analog stick. You’d be surprised by how well I play.
-
Not the answer but this may help you, The Last of Us 2 has full native support for one-handed controls - left or right. So until you do find the best option, he can be stealthily hunting infected with the standard controller.
-
Man back in the day the PSX had an incredible one handed controller, I used it to play X-Com and FFVII!
ID: h36piwiI remember seeing one similar for the SNES back in the day. I would have loved to play my 200+ hours of Final Fantasy 2 and 3 with that thing when I was a kid.
-
Get an xbox, gamepass and an adaptive controller. I have a friend in a similar situation and it works super well. Yeah I know, not playstation but xbox has some excellent disabled user support in the console and peripherals.
-
The Xbox adaptive controller or whatever it’s called is an official Xbox product full with a warranty and is probably your best bet…
Unfortunately, so far, I don’t believe any adapters exist to allow the Xbox adaptive controller to work on the PS5. There are adapters for the PS4 (which will work on PS5, but only for PS4 games) but not on PS5 yet that support PS5 games.
Unfortunately it currently seems like your best bet is to buy him an Xbox until the Dualsense is hacked, but even then, the Xbox has lots of disability functionality built into the operating system and is incredibly fool proof.
Note for the adaptive controller however, you’ll need more than the controller (as the adaptive controller is really more of a base) but it is highly configurable for people with a variety of different disabilities

ask Ben Heck!! He specializes in designing and building custom commissioned one handed console controllers check out his youtube and try and get in touch!!!! Ben’s the absolute man and a legend in the modding/making community.
-
all this talk about figuring out how to get the Xbox adaptive controller to work has got me asking
Do you need specifically a ps5?
-
I can only use one hand due to an injury and I've been depending on the "back button attachment" on the dualshock 4 to play the only games I can manage on one hand. Of course the PS5 doesnt have this option and doesn't let me use the dualshock 4 with the attachment for PS5 games ☹
ID: h36byinI messed up some fingers on my right hand and I have not been able to play a lot until it gets better which I hope it does. What is this back button attachment and where did you get it, please?
ID: h36f6bbJust search the web for "Sony DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment" and you should be able to find one for $20. Make sure it's the one actually made by Sony.
ID: h36oxy0You can use the Titan Two to use the DS4 in PS5 games. You also need a third party PS4 controller with a security chip to bypass the security though

Is your father missing his right or left hand?
If he still has his left hand I recommend the xim apex and a Logitech G13 or Razer Orbweaver, the g13 and orbweaver are gamepads with a thumbstick (g13 is analog, which is wayyyy better and orbweaver is mechanical 8-way switch) and a bunch of keys under the fingers.
If he still has his right hand I’d check into right handed gamepads for left handed people, and pair it with the xim apex OR maybe check into the Microsoft Adaptive Controller for people with physical disabilities.
Good luck and I’m confident you will find a way to keep your father in the game!
-
They should make a foot pedal single hand controller combo.
-
Your a good son.
-
There is a special xbox controller that work for that
-
I hope you can find something
-
Might be worth giving Special Effect a shout, they're a charity that sort out custom controller setups for people with all sort of abilities. At they very least they should be able to recommend some equipment.
-
When I received my injury to my right hand, I was so scared I wouldn't be able to game anymore and immediately played some videogames for a sense of normalcy despite playing them with one hand. I was 18 so it might have been easier for me to learn new tricks, but for me I learned to one hand ps4 controllers by essentially clawing and having one half of my hand on one side and the other half at the other side of the controller, with the controller pressed against my body to keep it elevated. I changed my holding styles for controllers based off of genre and what buttons are required most and I have beaten plenty of games like this (Bloodborne, Sekiro, Far Cry 4, Overwatch, Siege). I still play like this for the most part!
