Well this is good news just still waiting for a real price to pick one up.

ID: h34nxqr

Until then the next ones are out probably

ID: h34qc1d

That's 100% fine. My 5700xt is fine until I can get a 6800xt for msrp.

ID: h34r1uc

Judging by what is going on with crypto market, GPU prices might normalize by the end the year.

ID: h3569p2

Check out the "how to buy GPUs at MSRP" post on here recently. I used this method to buy a 6800XT MB from AMD Direct Buy at MSRP (after a few tries). Get the script to reveal the "add to cart" button, keep an eye on Falcodrin's Twitch chat or your favorite stock-hunting discord starting at 11:30 AM EST Thursday for the second cards start carting (usually at about 11:33-34), and cross your fingers.

ID: h357wzn

Where is that post?

ID: h362epx

This. If the script still works. I got one this way a few weeks ago. ‘Twas like a dream.

Road trip out to a microcenter. My local one has a few shelves full of AMD cards. The campers are going for nvidia now I guess

I'm not sure this data is comparing performance in the same games, or it's simply a case that more or different games are now being used for testing. It's probably worth noting that we tested with 18 games back in 2020, and our margins haven't changed:

I noted that a lot of these review outlets were testing with less than a dozen games, so if they've since updated the games list this will change the margins a lot.

ID: h36gtz4

Maybe its worth doing another fine wine investigation

ID: h36o01t

I also remember seeing very similar results back when the 6800XT first came out. Most reviews I read/watched had concluded that it was slightly faster at 1080p and 1440p and slightly slower at 4K overall at the time

ID: h36o3sm

Hey, want some money to edit you comment?

ID: h36v1es

How much are we talking here?

ID: h36in15

It would be interesting to see how the two compare to each other on Linux.

4 : Anonymous2021/06/26 19:19 ID: h34w4rr

Biggest con is, they are even harder to get than the RTX3080, I've only ever seen 6700XT or 6900XT for sale irl mostly 6900XT

ID: h36paxs

Damn, that's unlucky. I ordered one last week and had to wait just 3 days for it. Guess I got really lucky with the XFX MERC 319.

My local PC parts shop says that AMD is restocking much faster than Nvidia (I originally wanted a 3080).

ID: h36xln7

Would say it depends on where you live. Here in Sweden the 6800XT and the 6900XT is much easier to get then a nvidia card.

5 : Anonymous2021/06/26 19:05 ID: h34ufal

First review of TPU :

6800XT is slower than 3080 by 6%

Latest benchmark of TPU (Geforce RTX 3070 Ti ) :

6800XT is faster than than 3080 by 1.81%

summary : since First review to now , 6800XT is improved by 7.81% more.

edit: wrong math , It's 8.3%

ID: h352b7t

Not quite. It started at 94% of the 3080 and ended at 101.81%, which is an 8.3% increase. Think of the 7.81% you got as a proportion of the original 94% 🙂

ID: h3543co

yep.my math was wrong

ID: h36to6o

Yeah that's my point, the games list is different. Anno 1800 has been dropped for example and Assassin's Creed Odyssey has been replaced by Valhalla which is a big win for AMD and they've added Cyberpunk 2077. They've dropped Project Cars 3 which was a really bad title for AMD.

Then other changes include the addition of Watch Dogs Legion, the upgrade to Hitman 3 from 2, and the removal of Star Wars Jedi in favour of Squadrons. So a good number of changes there that completely invalidates the comparison.

6 : Anonymous2021/06/26 18:15 ID: h34op0a

You love to see it. Apparently the latest patch was a big one, with a few percentage point gains from reading some comments.

7 : Anonymous2021/06/26 17:47 ID: h34l771

It was faster below 4K at launch. The only reviews which showed otherwise had far too few games to get a proper average, and/or skewed heavily towards nVidia-tuned titles.

ID: h34wjg2

True, but it also depends on what titles you're comparing. As well as what graphics settings you're using.

MSAA in use? AMD's probably winning due to the incredible pixel fillrate of 128 ROPs combined with 128MB of cache.

Super-heavy volumetric effects? Nvidia's probably going to win due to the big FLOPS advantage.

As for FineWine, it's probably going to be less of a thing with RDNA and RDNA2. The strength of RDNA2 is that the chips seems to be very well balanced and utilized, which wasn't the case at all for GCN. Even at GCN's launch, AMD needed more execution units to match Nvidia. Going back 9 years, AMD's gone from 2048 ALUs with the 7970, to 5120 ALUs with the 6900 XT.

Ampere on the other hand, is a lot less balanced than previous Nvidia generations. It even exhibits similarities with GCN where higher gaming resolutions perform noticeably better when compared against previous generations. Going back 9 years, Nvidia's gone from 1536 ALUs with the 680, to 10496 with the 3090.

ID: h34y67k

Ampere has a lot of FP32 ALUs because each SM can execute FP32 + int32 or FP32 + FP32 concurrently. In practice, this means that most of those extra FP32 ALUs aren't utilized, since almost every workload has int operations too, plus cache, schedulers, ROPs etc aren't doubled.

ID: h34uf8a

This is what i remember as well, i don't think things have changed much.

8 : Anonymous2021/06/26 18:28 ID: h34q7de

Great, so when can I buy one for MSRP?

ID: h34vpda

Good chance by the end of the year, but shit happens so who really knows, but it looks like prices are starting to normalize, stock is improving and demand is decreasing, and crypto is taking a nosedive on top of that

ID: h35m1na

or on the bottom of that

ID: h3602d7

Can't wait for mining to tank and I can hopefully scope one up used for under msrp

9 : Anonymous2021/06/26 21:16 ID: h359umy

Faulty reporting. It hasnt "increased". They tested different games, a bunch of them AMD partenered ones - Dirt 5, Valhalla, Resident Evil Village which place the AMD cards ahead. And many outlets dont retest older cards that might benefit from driver and patch uplifts. So the newer released cards get benchmarked with newer drivers and patched games while results for 3080 and 3090 are showed from last year.

ID: h35kgik

i doubt there are any reviewers dumb enough not to re-test "older" cards while benching new ones, that would be incredibly misleading.

10 : Anonymous2021/06/26 20:32 ID: h354qa1

I'm curious how raytracing performance is, that's a big thing for me

ID: h36ii9z

If you want the best RT performance, you should go with Nvidia for now.

11 : Anonymous2021/06/26 21:12 ID: h359dbe

Hasn't it been faster than the 3080 in those resolutions since launch?

12 : Anonymous2021/06/26 19:40 ID: h34ykm4

How much has the price increased in comparison?

13 : Anonymous2021/06/26 17:34 ID: h34jp3h

If i can get a 6800xt for around $700 i will definently take it. Good thing is AMD fidelity effects of fairly decent.

ID: h34qe2x

you can be lucky to get a non XT for that price within this year.

ID: h34rbdm

yeah that sucks. I say a 6700xt for $1000 at microcenter. Why are the nvidia cards cheaper?

14 : Anonymous2021/06/26 20:02 ID: h3516wa

My Sapphire 6800xt Nitro+ has been the best GPU experience I’ve ever had. First AMD card too, wanted to give them a chance and was not disappointed. Driver issues sometimes happen but this is a welcomed announcement

15 : Anonymous2021/06/26 19:55 ID: h350d0a

Shall we RX 6800 Owners get some love ? 😀

16 : Anonymous2021/06/26 19:50 ID: h34zt0w

Radeon RX 6800 vs. GeForce RTX 3070

Was Now

1080p +3,4% AMD ➔ +9,0% AMD

1440p +6,2% AMD ➔ +10,7% AMD

4K +8,3% AMD ➔ +11,1% AMD

17 : Anonymous2021/06/26 18:02 ID: h34n2ui

And unfortunately still not available, despite having tried every week since launch.

18 : Anonymous2021/06/26 20:32 ID: h354r9i

That's cool but the price increased by 100%

19 : Anonymous2021/06/26 20:39 ID: h355i7m

But the chance of getting the card at its announced price since launch is still 0%.

20 : Anonymous2021/06/27 06:06 ID: h36pn7w

That's great news, happy as I own a 6800XT, but that's a terribly written article.

Secondly, as reported earlier (also demonstrated by TPU), the Radeon RX 6000 cards perform much better when paired with the Ryzen 5000 parts. Furthermore, this isn’t due to enabling Resizeable BAR, but some other factors related to the X570/B550 platform that seem to favor Radeon cards.

"...some other factors..." huh?

AMD GPUs age better historically than Nvidia's hopefully this remains true for this gen, although I kinda feel like I should've waited until the next gen, RDNA3 is supposed to be the next coming of god.

21 : Anonymous2021/06/27 06:10 ID: h36pzhq

Love my 6800 xt. Best card I've ever owned.

22 : Anonymous2021/06/27 06:23 ID: h36qwlt

Good old AMD Fine Wine Technology.

23 : Anonymous2021/06/27 12:55 ID: h37h4mo

Question: if I was to compare my ryzen 7 5800x with 3080 ti and then 3090 and then with a 6900 xt will smart memory between the 2 amd give me better results ? I currently have a 3070 but will be upgrading soon.

24 : Anonymous2021/06/27 01:17 ID: h35zac3

That’s neat. I’m still glad I went with the 3080 though, even for 1440p gaming. DLSS is just too good to pass up on, and I like raytracing.

I hope AMD continues to work on their FSR. If it can match DLSS one day (although I doubt it) then maybe I’ll consider trying out an AMD GPU for the first time.
