Is Godfall worth it now!?

1 : Anonymous2021/06/26 15:10 ID: o8clbj

I keep seeing this game on sale and I have read that a bunch of issues have been worked out. Anyone currently playing this?

2 : Anonymous2021/06/26 16:00 ID: h348iam

It feels like a game that's bound to be a PS+ game soon. That's really the only way I'll try it.

ID: h35yywv

Agreed, the game itself is pretty enjoyable (I own it on PC) but I wouldn't recommend buying it unless it's on a deep sale cause I definitely seeing this being a PS+ game in the near future.

ID: h36ynf7

People have been saying that since release. Why does everyone assume it will be on PS+? They got paid by both Epic and Sony for exclusivity and its releasing on PS4 soon and new DLC is coming. Not only that it has been on top downloaded list every month for PS5 since release. I would say the game is a commercial success.

3 : Anonymous2021/06/26 15:15 ID: h3434m6

I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit months ago. Not enough to continue after the credits, but a fun romp for the first 6-8 hours or so.

4 : Anonymous2021/06/26 17:53 ID: h34m24u

Wasn't worth for me, sold my copy. Loot is lackluster, combat is meh and levels super linear and enemies bit passive (nothing like Dark Alliance tho!)

Too bad all recent looter type games have been trash: Godfall, Torchlight 3, Magic Legends, Anthem, Avengers, Outriders...

Some of my favorite looters: Destiny 2, Warframe, Diablo 3, Monster Hunter: World and Avengers (even if it's trash it's got really really solid combat loop... Endgame is seriously lacking... Still got solid 50 hours fun)

ID: h3529w2

If you like loot, you’ll love the Nioh-games, currently on sale. I have more hours in those games than I’d like to admit.

Edit: they have also been patched for the ps5.

ID: h36cboe

Just the tag onto this, Nioh 2 has a free PS5 upgrade for the PS4 version, so you can safely buy the PS4 version if it happens to be cheaper. The PS5 version of 1 is it’s own separate game, so the PS4 version can’t be upgraded

ID: h36tzfg

Did you try the Ghost of Tsushima Legends coop mode. One of the best coop modes ive played with a lot of unique loot.

ID: h37lvmh

No Borderlands?! I cannot WAIT for Diablo 2 & 4. Also, I agree with the other dude, Nioh rules for loot- especially Nioh 2. Looters are my fav.

ID: h36eav7

Indeed, almost all the recent looter games have been massive disappointments. To add to the above list, I bought Warhammer Chaosbane on sale. The only thing it achieved, was to make me go back to Diablo 3.

Outriders ain't that bad, though. They've released patches that improved drop rates, survivability, etc. It's much better now.

ID: h36txzu

Thought you meant baldurs gate and not dnd, completely forgot thats out

ID: h381hnw

Outriders was really fun, one of the most fun plats ive done in a while

ID: h37e3hj

Its weird to see monster hunter being called a looter when its more of a crafting game. It even functions completelly different than what people call a looter in the genre... Like.... They dont literally mean to just loot because that would include too many games and then it wouldnt make sense to filter something calling it a looter.

5 : Anonymous2021/06/26 15:38 ID: h345udk

I put a lot of hours into the game. I enjoyed it but I'm in the minority

6 : Anonymous2021/06/27 07:18 ID: h36ungi

Its on sale cause no one is buying this shit

7 : Anonymous2021/06/27 09:04 ID: h371c5l

No

8 : Anonymous2021/06/26 15:26 ID: h344etb

I had alot of fun with it and I am currently waiting for the expansion. They've fixed alot of issues the game had since launch and it's well worth 30-40 bucks

9 : Anonymous2021/06/26 15:13 ID: h342x59

Depends, is it free yet?

ID: h3471bp

Have you played the game or just going by what reviewers say. I'm not defending the game, just looking for an actual opinion on it.

ID: h34cfbc

It’s not as bad as people make it out to be. The haptic feedback adds a bit of oomph to the melee combat (making me really excited by that shield combo for when God of War 2 utilizes the DualSense for haptic feedback + adaptive triggers). Destroying pottery, vases, jars, and other breakable objects is similarly satisfying. The story is pretty much just there to give you something to do while playing the game — nothing special but at least it’s something.

The biggest mistake the game made was in launching without a way to meet up with other players online — I’m not sure if online matchmaking has since been added in or not, as I only played it solo. But I’m sure it would be more fun with other players. Definitely nothing you should pay $70 for, but it’s fine for killing time and has some shiny graphics to back it up. If you get it “free” with PS+ at some point, all the better. I got it as part of a buy 2 get 1 free sale at Target so I feel like I got a good deal.

ID: h34ohyg

I bought it at launch and it wasnt as bad as people say other than it having a majot shuddering issue which has been fixed. Im even replaying as we speak in preparation for the new expansion

ID: h348x12

I look at what a lot of reviewers say. If an overwhelming amount of reviewers, people whose literal job is to critically analyze video games, say its bad then i tend to believe them.

10 : Anonymous2021/06/26 15:11 ID: h342roi

You mean rhe awful, repetitive gameplay? No, they didn't rework the whole game.

11 : Anonymous2021/06/26 16:03 ID: h348s9k

Don’t even ask that question here. 90% of people haven’t even played it but spout the same negative bullshit. I don’t even know why this subreddit decided to hate it. It’s like the game personally killed their mother or something. It’s sad and pathetic

ID: h34mnd5

At 61% on Metacritic, the subreddit wasn’t the only people unimpressed.

ID: h34bnzc

I don’t even know why this subreddit decided to hate it

Bandwagons are enticing to tribalists. Also, contrarians with no original thought. But sometimes a game is just not very good. Now, since it sounds like most posting haven't played it, the first two make sense.

ID: h357ons

I hate it because it has

-Worst combat I've ever experienced in a game

-Bad story (if you can even call it a story)

-No curated campaign or levels

-Technical issues

The game's Metacritic isn't too hot either.

ID: h36954w

I love how you got downvoted for this lol

So typical for this subreddit.

ID: h35c8yd

I have nothing against people who don’t like the game. But if you see, 99% of the comments in this thread don’t even mention what’s wrong with it. It’s very clear most people haven’t played it and are just parroting what others say.

12 : Anonymous2021/06/27 01:44 ID: h3621ud

Hell to the no!!!!

13 : Anonymous2021/06/26 18:34 ID: h34qv8d

On sale where? I am looking up Godfall on the Canadian Playstation Store and it's still $93.49.

ID: h37f3gb

Amazon was selling the 99 dollar version for 40 the other day. But in the US.

14 : Anonymous2021/06/27 00:27 ID: h35udvp

I got it day one and felt like a graphic technical demo looked great and I liked what they did with the trigger when attacking but idk about story or character development

15 : Anonymous2021/06/27 03:39 ID: h36d8t7

NOT even when free game of the month.. "Anthem 2.0" , it's a trap!!

16 : Anonymous2021/06/27 07:06 ID: h36ttyt

If you're into that kind of gameplay, it's worth $15, no more.

17 : Anonymous2021/06/27 07:07 ID: h36tw22

The game is fun and pretty but becomes dull and repetitive very fast. I personally didnt like the endgame content much but the game provides definitely some fun for the regular campaign. The variety of weapons sounds fun on paper too but I was never fully interested to swap around much. I didnt feel that Godfall was particularly buggy or broken, its just the game design felt very boring after a short while in terms of gameplay, monsters, weapons etc.

So if you feel appealed go for it with reasonable expectations but I personally would not drop more than 20-30 bucks into it to keep risk-value in balance.

It is not a bad game at all it could ve just been a lot better considering the initial ideas and other looter-like games.

18 : Anonymous2021/06/27 08:18 ID: h36yiwp

I got around 300h worth of it. Its pretty fun getting new gear and trying out new builds. For me its def worth it.

19 : Anonymous2021/06/27 11:42 ID: h37be5h

Bought ascended for 30 and been playing for two days and imo at that price its worth it. Looks good, you get tons of weapons bcus it's a looter but it is true it feels very generic. Even knowing that, it has been fun to play and I've enjoyed it.

20 : Anonymous2021/06/27 12:30 ID: h37f143

OP the game is having an update in august 10th for match making and some other improvements i believe, so just wait for it then and see how it is. Might be the better experience and worth better to ask at that time.

21 : Anonymous2021/06/27 12:52 ID: h37gwwp

I paid the whole $70 and can for sure say no. I don't even think it'd be worth $20

22 : Anonymous2021/06/27 14:22 ID: h37puas

No

23 : Anonymous2021/06/27 15:01 ID: h37u8mt

No

24 : Anonymous2021/06/27 15:04 ID: h37ul0u

No

25 : Anonymous2021/06/27 15:07 ID: h37uw81

Short answer... No. Longer answer... It's fun with friends & if you got it at launch it was at least something pretty to play on your new console once you were done with Miles & Demon's. It's made a lot of improvements since launch, but there's just better co-op games now if you're looking for that & better single player games too.

26 : Anonymous2021/06/26 21:47 ID: h35dc9x

I really enjoyed the game and found it to have some pretty impressive graphics and haptic feedback. I encountered some visual issues mostly involving lighting, and the matchmaking wasn’t as flawless as I would have liked, but both of those things have been fixed recently. Combat feels very reminiscent of GoW, albeit not quite as good, but the haptics really add something. Story is so-so, god vs god and his minions and whatnot. I played to the end and still occasionally go back to play with a friend. Definitely worth $40 on sale. I got it free from a buy 2 get one deal and was happy with it

27 : Anonymous2021/06/26 22:03 ID: h35f1xp

Yes. The gameplay is cool and the world is beautiful. The gear chase can be exciting if you're into that. Just don't expect or need a good story.

28 : Anonymous2021/06/26 16:35 ID: h34cn54

Check out SkillUps review. It's way more in depth than others. If they fixed those issues brought up then it's probably worth it

29 : Anonymous2021/06/26 23:05 ID: h35lt13

You should try out demon souls if you haven't it's 50 bucks right now on ps store

30 : Anonymous2021/06/26 23:10 ID: h35mbik

Godfall was worth it on release. Even better now. Thing is… It’s just a game, that’s meant to be fun to play. Not tell some epic story. So if you’re looking for some crazy story, or souls like combat, look elsewhere. It’s just a fun action game with good combat. Not too easy, not too hard. It’s just… Fun.
