- Atari Gaming moving away from free-to-play and mobile games - to focus on making premium games for consoles.

Not the "real" Atari by the way. This company just bought the name.
ID: h48t8m8ID: h49lv9mSo was the company that bought the name formed by any previous members of Atari? Otherwise the Ship of Theseus doesn't work very well with this.
ID: h4ce2jsIm the dude playing the dude, disguised as another dude
ID: h48iq8rTHQ Nordic did the same and they published a lot of quality games and remakes. So it doesn't matter if they just bought the name if their future end products are good.
ID: h48iwqsOf course not. I'm just making sure people are aware.
ID: h48qggfTHQ Nordic basically bought most of the ip when thq went tits up though.
ID: h4anj1sThe 'real' Atari was formed in 1972 and SOLD to Warner in 1976- before the original Atari VCS was ever even sold or played by anyone.
This version of Atari has owned Atari for much longer than the 'real' Atari...
ID: h4949c6Even if it was the "real" Atari it wouldn't have any of the same employees from 100 years ago anyways so it doesn't make much of a difference either way.

Here’s hoping for an E.T remaster
ID: h48oewpUnironically would sell like hotcakes for the meme
ID: h48rv3lLandfill hotcakes
ID: h49zca3We hoped he was lost forever but this holiday season he’s making a come back in UHD 4k HDR @ 960fps.
ID: h4885olOr the game built in as an easter egg with the console.
ID: h48aqwdThere never was much hope.... only a fool's hope.
ID: h48mtvfAs long as it included the original version as a bonus.

Atari is a dead brand being dragged around by buyers with too much money who don't understand what Atari was ever about and instead are just trying to cash in on the brand name recognition alone. They're dragging around a corpse, nothing more.
ID: h49upimI mean, yeah it's mostly just investors playing hot potato with licensing rights, but at the same time, it'll be interesting to see if the current owners do something worthwhile.
ID: h4aoj4qTruth. The Atari name hasn't meant shit since the Atari 2600.
-
between this and Nintendo's e3, we're going back to like 2003
ID: h48gpunBetween this and Intellevision at E3 we're going back to 1981.
ID: h48l6v0Horse Racing on Intellevision was the shit!
-
Huh....so that logo in Blade Runner 2049 will actually be out of place now lol
-
Way to go from F2P and mobile to "premium" games for PC/console. Curious how their first landing will perform. Honestly on paper this feels like yet another "big board move" that is destined to fall hard but lets see maybe it will be convincing.
ID: h48i1o2It’s Atari. They’ll be back on whatever big buzzword starts trending once the VCS flops.
ID: h49nlbiAren't they still developing some form of crypto casino? Lol
-
No more Bluetooth speaker hats darn
-
Yeah, I saw what happened with their “console”...I am really not getting my hopes up for anything “premium” Atari has to offer. They’re a bunch of con artists as far as I’m concerned.
ID: h48hy6mThe nostalgia in me wanted one, the original was my first forray into video games after all. Then I saw the price tag, con artists is too nice a moniker for them
ID: h48jt02I remember hearing all the buzz and hub-bub about it when announced aaaand that was all I heard. what ever happened to it?
-
If the toilet-shaped Jaguar CD isn't the last boss then I don't want to play.
-
Pong at 8k 240fps confirmed!
-
which atari is this
ID: h48cwimThe latest company to buy the name.
-
I believe the old Atari did that great Ghostbusters game on the PS3 years ago. It would be nice if they could offer games at least that good in the future. I have low expectations.
-
AAA TEMPEST REBOOT FOR NEW GEN HARDWARE.
-
This is good news for Atari. Just look at sega... I'm curious what kind of games they'll be Developing
ID: h4c8ji2Eh. Difference there is Sega never stopped making successful games, kept their IP where they wanted to, and they are the "same" Sega from the 80s.
This Atari has very little relation to the Atari that was on top of the mountain early days, and I don't think they have any long running series to help bolster initial sales. It's not like they can drop a new Gauntlet or Super Sprint tomorrow and have a baked in fanbase to milk, your Atari game franchise fans are probably in their 60s now.
-
That’s a first.
-
PLEASE MAKE GODZILLA SAVE THE EARTH 2 OR A REMASTER!
-
Anyone else feel like they've been outta the loop for so long that any new games they make will probly feel old-school. Hope I'm wrong tho
-
cant wait to play Pong: Remake
-
They could easily do BR game like Tetris 99 or Pacman 99, like Asteroids, Space Invaders, or whatever else.
-
I hope they are inspired by housemarque and build reimaginations of old classics - resogun was an incredible variant of defender. bring on 4k, 3billion voxel pac man. Froffer, pitfall, space invaders.
-
ET remake please
-
mobile games.....
-
Unless I see total annihilation 2 I don't care. Fuck you infrogrames/Atari.
-
What are you waiting for ATARI?
Tell Dimps to make Dragon Ball Super Budokai and publish it like you always do
-
Atari is dead. Just the name lives.
-
All for this
-
Hey as long as they make good games then good. Let's see what they come up with.
-
Konami next?
-
So Atari formerly known as Infogrames, after giving up game publishing for mobile and a Kickstarter console is going back to game publishing
-
competition is always good.
-
Honestly companies focusing on mobile development are idiots. They can just outsource some mobile development to experiences companies or have a small dedicated team. Why focus all your efforts on mobile when your core audience doesn't give a fuck about it and gaming is more profita le than ever.
I stead try making games that people actually want and will like instead of making games that a shitty marketing person is telling you to make, filling it with shitty mtx and pay to win systems
-
Do they own all Atari's IP's? Edit: I read that Infogrames sold many franchises like Test Drive and Alone in the dark.
-
Atari who now?
-
Wait, if this is an indication mobile games aren't AS profitable anymore then great.
-
No, they just can't compete with fire emblem heroes or other similar gachas
-
Are there even any Atari waifus?
-
They absolutely destroyed the RCT franchise. Not hopeful at all.
-
Man, you all really hate Atari.
-
Iirc this is infrogrames which bought the name Atari
-
Have you not seen the VCS?
-
"Atari"
-
You mean freemium, right?
-
How does this company manage to exist still?
