- Destiny 2 Update 3.2.1 - Includes AMD performance fix
-
PC performance optimizations for AMD RX series GPUs.
Hopefully this fixes up any last issues from the update last year. Recent drivers have fixed up some of them already.
ID: h4ac77dID: h4amh54Thats great to hear
ID: h4c032lI am stoked to hear this news, just came back from a 6 week break from Destiny 2 (and all tech in fact including smart phone) and am just now about to boot up steam and check it out! Ryzen 5 1400 and Asus RX 580.
Note - Wanted to build a new gaming PC, as I sold mine in 2019 due to tough financial circumstances.
So when I got my tax return and I couldn't find a GPU for any reasonable price I did something I thought id never do after 10 years old PC building and modding. . . I found a used prebuilt Dell Gaming Desktop for $700 (came with 2x 24" Dell 1080p monitors as well) which I was happy to pay because the RX 580 was (and still is) listed for around the same price by itself on ebay.
ID: h4bvltrMassive 0 FPS drops in crucible when someone starts his super or throw granades. "Performance fix" in my a**. Video on my profile.
ID: h4bxyv3That has to do with shader cache. Either disable it or test every supe
before you go into crucible...ID: h4byswvThat happens to me everytime I update my drivers but after a few games I think all of the shader cache is loaded and the frame drops stop.

Cool double performance fix
-
Cool! Might actually jump in again if for anything to see if it works well. Those 40 FPS caps in areas were killer
-
So the problem was on Bungie's side and not with Radeon Drivers all this time that people have been bitching and complaining about.
ID: h49yefnAMD also released a driver that fixed performance issues with Destiny 2. The driver bumped up my FPS from 40 FPS to 100 FPS in some areas.
ID: h4a3segI have a feeling AMD found the cause, fixed it from the drivers and then sent the fix to Bungie.
ID: h4akxs0I’m getting around 95 FPS on edz. With a 3600x cpu and 6700 xt is that normal?
ID: h4a5b81Wow it was that bad ? i did't bother playing destiny 2 until i saw something got fixed due wanting to test it out.
ID: h4a487wTangled Shore? I was getting 30 fps with my 5600 XT, now I'm using a GTX 1650 and getting way better performance there lmao.
Edit: why did I get downvotes for stating an issue? Lmao
ID: h4a4js9Yeah, they broke the game with last light or some other update long time ago, partly fixed it but it was still very broken for AMD users, talking completely CPU bound when in some zones because the multi-threading was broken. You could force it which helped some, but that broke other areas like the tower.
AMD did a work around a month or so ago that helped fix some of it and hopefully this fix brings the game back to previous performance levels. I do wonder if DOF still completely tanks performance when ADSing at its highest level.
ID: h4ag4hsNot sure if you knew this, but pretty much all driver optimizations are to "unfuck" choices made by the developers in code. Unfuck isn't really the right word as the code may be A-OK for specifically Nvidia's cards though.
ID: h4a3qibit was. because shit hit the fan on nvidia cards too.
ID: h4ak1u7If you're a consumer, it doesn't actually matter if it's the devs' fault or driver's fault.
ID: h4aqllzI read somewhere 2 months ago that an Amd dev said Bungie had broken something.
ID: h49thz5I don't play this game but the game dev creating a fix for something doesn't specifically mean there wasn't a shortcoming in the driver.
They could have just navigated around the issue
ID: h4a0rvfIts ancient at this point due to internet aging. However from Nvidia, AMD and Intel day 1 drivers were historically to fix issues from the game devs side, per a previous driver engineer, there is a whole rabbit whole to go down if you find the original post and reference materials there in.
Doesn't totally remove drivers from the equation, and I know AMD introduced some of their own fixes, but its definitely a 2 way street. From some of the other comments around destiny 2 and radeon sounds like Bungie's forced WFH due to COVID caused a lot of issues around QA.
ID: h49xj5sThe devs blamed it on working remote due to covid and having to use stadia to test. It was literally busted for 7+ months (since Beyond Light). Bungie also lost access to Vicarious Visions in the Activision split. They did the initial destiny port to PC and was likely helping on that front.
ID: h49ua4aWhile i certainly don't discount a potential driver being a contributing factor somewhat, considering bungies history with destiny 2 and the royal number of massive fuckups they've somehow managed to introduce into the game itself since it launched and somehow CONTINUE to screw up repeatedly in countless other things... it's almost assuredly entirely the developers fault.
-
I know its going to be seen as a "Should've been done from teh start" kinda thing. But this should speak volumes of how Radeon is being viewed when huge titles start doing radeon specific fixes.
ID: h4aln2eI’m not buying Radeon again.

This PM CST was a load of server connect errors, yet strikes played. I got the MBs of new BTW, still tonsa server connect errors.
ID: h4al0jaI had to connect a vpn to japan just to log in, otherwise I'd get constant "servers unavailable" message. it's still glitchy, but at least no less weasels and other hard errors.
-
the performance is still not where it could've been, but great news nonetheless.
ID: h4bk8afDamn thats a bummer hopefully they keep working on it
ID: h4c9p2tMust be tricky for them since they use an external team for PC specific development.
Not trying to defend them in any case.
-
Do a lot of people still play that game? It’s not a joke, I’m curious considering I’ve heard there’s been many bad decisions made by Bungie on the direction of the game.
ID: h4c9r1qIt's quite popular according to Steam. Doesn't mean it's a good game though lol
ID: h4c0jiwLots. Not COD or Fortnite amount, but yes a ton of people play on PC.
-
It was only dreaming city and the tangled shore everything else was fine
ID: h4c9pspEDZ was also pretty badly impacted
-
This performance fix, right? xD

This seems to implement the changes that were made on the driver side for D2.
I just checked in with the game after rolling back to 21.4.1 and performance in Thieves Landing is totally fine.
Meanwhilte me with 1079 getting 30 fps in oveeride and having 120fps in resident evil village on high
Did you mean to say 1070?
I thought only ampere (and possibly turing) was negatively impacted by the beyond light update for Nvidia users.
I hope it gets sorted for you soon
Yeah sorre 1070
So this fix only gives you a performance boost if you have an AMD gfx card? If you have an AMD CPU and an Nvidia GFX card you will not gain anything?
This isn't a feature, it's a bug fix. Your card just didn't have the bug to begin with.
Only for RX? Was hoping for some optimization on PVE on 6000 series
Everything above the RX 480 is considered an RX
Anything RX 460/550 and up is considered RX
Its for all AMD GPUs seems like. Also 6000 are RX series 🙂

Between the recent driver and this update I seem to be back to 100% normal. AMD RX 580. No significant frame drops in the Tower, EDZ or Tangled Shore. Looks like they nailed it!
