Ryzen 5950x high CPU temps?

1 : Anonymous2021/07/21 19:39 ID: ooxbhn

Ryzen 5950x (no overclock), MSI x570 Creator, ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280mm, Asus 3080 OC 10G, 32GBx2 G.Skill Trident Z Neo 3800MHZ

I feel my temperatures are too high for the setup. The whole setup is sitting inside a Phanteks p600s which has its front open for ventilation.

Could it be because I have not plugged in CPU PWR 2 in the motherboard?

p.s: This is my first pc build.

That’s normal for Ryzen. What are load temps.

How is 75°C idle normal lol.

ID: h61iew3

Because he’s not idle, lol. Have you looked at the power consumption readings? His CPU Cores alone are eating 50+ W. His total power consumption at your so called definition of idle is 61% of 142 W = 86 W.

On an actual idle system, the ‘CPU Power’ would be < 5 W. Eg. On a 5900X and 5600X that I was able to use for a while, that goes down to 0.5-2 W at most with PPT ranging from 15-20 W, nowhere near the 90 W OP has.

That's definitely much higher than normal for idle. Guaranteed you have something running

Ryzen runs hot at low loads, that’s when the most voltage is running through the chip, 1.4,1.5V is normal for low loads.

This is why I run power saver mode if I’m not actively stressing the chip, it limits the voltage to 0.9V.

Install the amd chipset drivers from the amd website (not your motherboard site)

That is very high temps. Did you apply an appropriate amount of thermal paste? And make sure you installed the cooler correctly? Is the pump and the fans connected and working?

I might have to revisit that. because I remember when I assembled initially the cooler (arctic freezer) was pain in the butt to install and thermal paste may have dried out in my several attempts to put it together.

I dont know who downvoted me but if you look at the images: 76C at 2% load with several cores asleep. That does not look good at all!

Thats not normal for so little cpu usage assuming ambient isn't super high.

For comparison my 5950x with pbo, Asus ROG crosshair viii hero, 128gb 3733 ram, Gigabyte rtx 3090 and h150ipro rgb true idles at 27c and hits 55-65c while gaming @21c ambient.

ID: h61lljf

Mine also pretty much the same, the OP’s temps are odd.

ID: h61piv8

my ambient is 73f (or 22.7c). those are good temps

ID: h61zdxw

Do you also only have the all cpu temperature or with the die temps etc... ? Because i installed hwinfo and it only give me 1 type of temperature!

Make sure you are reading the right temp, could be package tempature

ID: h61ov1p

I believe I am reading the right temp, its from the ryzen master utility and says processor temp

Check core voltage

Its pulling ~90w of power all in, so its not idle and these temps would be expected depending on cooler and voltage (your screenshot blocks it).

Did you remove the plastic from the AIO before install? Or maybe the cooling block isn’t making full contact and or bad thermal paste application?

9 : Anonymous2021/07/21 20:55 ID: h61s64k

Ya man, that's high.

10 : Anonymous2021/07/21 22:28 ID: h624hwr

That is typical of the 5950x. The temperatures rise does not correlate with power usage. Low usage above 3-5% on mine often results in temperatures like that. My 5950x temperature doe not really seem to increase beyond that.

What is idle and full load temperatures?
