Report: Sony Updates PlayStation Home Trademark for the Second Time This Year
2 : Anonymous2021/07/24 14:55 ID: h6dctgn

Bet this will be for the PSVR2 when it comes out.

ID: h6dxhuf

Man I hope so. I miss PS Home, and having it be like VRChat would be awesome.

ID: h6e2o8k

My last PlayStation before PS5 was PS2, what’s PS home?

ID: h6epu0j

With present day graphics, modern VR technology, and the work from home culture that the pandemic brought on pretty much everyone, a proper VR PSHome virtual world could become the single reason to buy a PS5 even for non gamers. It could be the closest thing to teleportation we'd have.

ID: h6dn6db

With how popular ChatVR is, it just makes so much sense to bring back PS Home for VR!

ID: h6eadmx

I hope you're right about this. Would love to have PS Home come back.

ID: h6ehsfj

I've been saying this since PSVR launched.

ID: h6egj7d

Was literally just going to post this. It would be perfect for the platform.

ID: h6eiwwg

I really hope so. They have the opportunity to make their own version of The Oasis from Ready Player One, or at least something on par with VRChat. They could integrate Dreams (and give it to everyone with a PS5 for fucks sake) and have people make avatars and environments and games and art with it. And maybe we could finally get support for BigScreenVR so there’s a theater where we can watch 3D films (as well as rent VOD titles and stuff that might be in the theater currently) and also use all their other cool environments like a projection style screen on the beach, or a drive-in theater, or a campground etc.

Let us socialize, and shop, and customize, and play games together, and watch a movie, and then launch into a multiplayer game directly from PSHome. I really think that adding VR is the missing ingredient that would instantly bring so much immersion to it, as well as scale, depth, size, and perspective. And with everyone having an SSD as a baseline, they could do so much more with PSHome powered by the PS5 as compared to what it was on the PS3.

ID: h6ev4zz

Sansar is doing a pretty good job of ripping this idea and the concept of the oasis off

3 : Anonymous2021/07/24 18:52 ID: h6e5zjs

It needs a great bowling alley, a great movie theatre, and everything else that made Home great ( in VR )

ID: h6ek4po

They could integrate BigScreenVR. They show 3D movies weekly, and have all sorts of environments from a traditional theater to beach scenes with a projection screen, or a drive-in or campfire area. And especially now that I can no longer play my 3D blurays on the PS5 like I did on the PS4Pro using PSVR, I’d love a way to be able to rent and/or view them like hitting up the PSHome theater. They could also show VOD titles and Fathom events and stuff like that.

People mentioning VR, funny thing is Sony had developed a social space demo for PSVR back in 2016 and even showed it off to a developer crowd, to much applause and laughter. It was basically to show developers what is possible with PSVR. Here is the demo:

A year later, VRChat released and became a huge hit. No idea why Sony didn't develop the demo into something more, especially when the reception to it was so positive. Talk about a missed opportunity.

ID: h6dtmxv

They likely are, but are being more ambitious then people are expecting.

ID: h6eiwj7

And that....that's why people end up disappointed in things.

ID: h6duim7

Yeah they would have had a home run, still time to make it popular, but with the pandemic to have a social space to interact and play games and watch videos and stuff would have been pretty cool.

ID: h6ejv02

Yeah, VRChat really helped a lot of people get through 2020, I think. The same way it’ll be really useful to people to be able to pick up Microsoft Flight Simulator and fly anywhere in the world, after a year of maintaining social distance and isolation. If they don’t bring PSHome back, I hope they at least bring VRChat over. I get it’s probably a nightmare in terms of copyright infringement though. They could make their own version, using Dreams, and have people create their avatars, environments, games, and social spaces with it. That would be a cool way to increase the user base of Dreams as well (which I really think should be included with the PS5 at this point, or make it part of the PS+ Collection).

This is the perfect generation for ps home to come back with the ssd and all hope it come on ps vr and ps5

6 : Anonymous2021/07/24 14:55 ID: h6dcs6u

Please come back

7 : Anonymous2021/07/24 15:27 ID: h6dgnfu

Everyday I pray…

8 : Anonymous2021/07/24 16:18 ID: h6dn32o

This would be great to come back. On ps3 loading times we’re so awful but with ps5 this could be a great drop in/out social environment

ID: h6e3lio

That's what I was thinking. The long load times are what killed it on the PS3 imo but having that SSD in the PS5 might be what Sony was waiting for.

9 : Anonymous2021/07/24 16:36 ID: h6dpb43

OASIS , if they can build it. COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

10 : Anonymous2021/07/24 15:48 ID: h6djatt

If this comes out with the PlayStation VR2 AND it has the quality and content that I'm imagining in my head. This will change everything!

It will be like another world.

11 : Anonymous2021/07/24 15:29 ID: h6dgyy4

Tbh this was a fun game to just hop into before school and after school. Meeting new people and just standing around or playing bowling with strangers. Would be so dope to have it come back or even with vr. Sitting on a couch or standing around a bar and chillin like its VRchat haha.

12 : Anonymous2021/07/24 18:12 ID: h6e148k

I know little about PlayStation Home other than the fact that it is a social space, but I dream of having a VR player home for PlayStation where I can display items and trophies and other awards from my games, akin to Steam VR Home.

Let’s say I just platinumed Spider-Man. It would be awesome to put a platinum trophy that says Spider-Man on it, in a display case in my VR home.

I just played through Uncharted 1-4. I’d love to put some of the various artifacts I collected on a shelf.

I love Fallout 76. Maybe I could put some Vault Boy Bobbleheads around my VR home?

Throw up a few posters for my games up on the wall! Why not?

I love the idea of collecting stuff from games, and even picking up stuff from the PlayStation store, to make my own VR home to stop by after my adventures.

ID: h6ej0ku

That's pretty much what home was, but not vr. You design your own home and could put trophies on display or play little mini game ads

ID: h6ejfvj

When you say trophies, do you mean like platinum/gold/silve

… achievements? Could you put other items from games? What kind of decorations were available?

13 : Anonymous2021/07/24 20:22 ID: h6egnrv

If they launch this again, they need to find a way to better integrate it into the game themselves. Let people form parties, build clans, and other gaming facets right within Home.

14 : Anonymous2021/07/24 16:07 ID: h6dlo3s

PSVR2 launching with PS Home will be massive.

15 : Anonymous2021/07/24 17:47 ID: h6dy47x

Joined my first Metal Gear Solid Online 2 clan through this. W.O.L.F

16 : Anonymous2021/07/24 17:54 ID: h6dyzx0

And still nothing will ever happen.

17 : Anonymous2021/07/24 15:56 ID: h6dkcll

PSVR 2 pleeeaassee

18 : Anonymous2021/07/24 16:21 ID: h6dngdk

Renewing trademarks is a way of keeping others from using the stuff you patent.

It'd be good to see it back, maybe as a PSVR2 homeplace.

But.

The fact they discontinued the cash cow must be a clue that they don't want.

Unless they are going to pay people to moderate the service.

19 : Anonymous2021/07/24 19:50 ID: h6ecvrt

For crying out loud, this is normal.. they need to keep updating the trademark, if they don’t want any other company using it. Just because they update the trademark does not mean PlayStation home is coming back.

20 : Anonymous2021/07/24 16:48 ID: h6dqqit

Don’t think VR will become very popular until the headsets are the size of glasses/headphones. And until there’s a viable solution for the motion sickness most people face. And until you can sit down and play triple AAA games with a great headset. Imagine the last of us but with a VR version, just the headset.

I can’t even play my psvr I bought awhile ago due to motion sickness, not worth playing for thirty minutes to feel like throwing up for the rest of the day. Point is VR has a very long way to go still.

ID: h6dsdbj

The new Sony VR has some features to prevent motion sickness according to reports

ID: h6elgdw

The PSVR2 has some features like gaze/focus tracking w/ foveated rendering, that will operate more like your eyes do in the real world. And they’ve put a lot of effort into motion sickness solutions. There’s something to be said for building your “VR legs” too. When I first played VR, my brain couldn’t process why it looked like I was moving while I was standing still.

Sort of like riding a roller coaster — standing in that line would make you jittery and anxious. Then you ride it for the first time, and your brain thinks “I’ve done this before, I recognize this, I can do this” and you progressively seek out more intense coasters with more loops and higher drops and more speed. But you do need to work up to that point first. And sure, there are going to be some people that just won’t be able to play VR, because they also get motion sick in cars and other vehicles.

I think there’s a lot of improvement of movement and control systems, combined with well designed games (for example giving you a cockpit to focus on, the same way that riding in a car at 80mph still has you stationary relative to the position of the car and doesn’t freak your brain out like it would if you just hurled your brain at 80mph). Definitely not a good idea to jump right into something like RE7 where you walk like a traditional video game, because that free movement will make you queasy. But a game like SuperHot, where time only moves when you move, or Beat Saber (where you’re standing in one spot and everything comes to you) are great places to start for new users. Then you could jump to stuff with a cockpit, where you’re in a car or ship or tank or whatever. Even something like Until Dawn: Rush of Blood where you’re in a roller coaster, but you still have that cockpit view of seeing the cart around you and the track ahead (plus it moves rather slowly). And then work your way up to full locomotion where you can freely walk without using teleports and snap turning.

I realize you likely already know all of this, so I’m mostly just saying it for the benefit of people that haven’t tried VR yet. But there definitely is hope for those that get motion sick. I also find that aiming a fan directly at my face really helps, as does staying well hydrated and always standing if my character is standing, and likewise for sitting. And you sort of have to rethink how you use an analog stick — if you just turn it like you would turn your head in a FPS game, that’s an unnatural movement. But if you tilt or turn your head as you do in real life, as opposed to using a stick to drag your vision 45 degrees, that helps too. It’s a combination of stuff, but on the development end, there’s a lot of research and development going into ways to find the most comfortable and agreeable way to enjoy VR, even if you’re sensitive to the motion of it at first.

21 : Anonymous2021/07/24 17:55 ID: h6dz1u5

I really hope they revive Home but if they do it better not be VR exclusive.

22 : Anonymous2021/07/24 19:35 ID: h6eb5wa

I remember this. Everyone was always talking about NSFW topics some years release

23 : Anonymous2021/07/24 20:09 ID: h6ef65i

The rumo

with the first trademark was VR(like most of you pointed out) and that it will be presented during the event in august(be it a direct or an actual PS Experience)

24 : Anonymous2021/07/24 21:31 ID: h6eops7

If they make this VR it's got a chance.

25 : Anonymous2021/07/24 21:36 ID: h6epdg8

Omfg hope is not just to take the name but actually use the ip

26 : Anonymous2021/07/24 21:47 ID: h6eqnx6

I'd sacrifice every big launch for the next 2 years if they brought home back.

27 : Anonymous2021/07/24 21:57 ID: h6erqzz

would be great to see another version of Home.

28 : Anonymous2021/07/24 21:57 ID: h6erttm

This is what im talking about!!!

29 : Anonymous2021/07/24 21:59 ID: h6es27b

So many people are asking for this on VR and I see why, but this should come out as a regular game too. That’s what it started as on PS3. I don’t care about VR and just want to play one of my favorite childhood games that unfortunately shut down. It’d also be such a cool platform to hang out with friends on and would definitely make Sony a lot of money.

30 : Anonymous2021/07/24 22:44 ID: h6ex4qd

VR sex chat

31 : Anonymous2021/07/24 22:53 ID: h6ey43g

A man can dream

33 : Anonymous2021/07/24 23:20 ID: h6f161h

Omg, crossing my fingers.

34 : Anonymous2021/07/24 21:56 ID: h6ern1r

So excited for this, could be the only reason I get a PS5, since PS exclusives are slowly creeping on PC, THIS is the the only thing that will bring me back into PS gang! Best days of life gaming was on PS Home!
