Experience the Tales of Arise demo, out today

Having played the demo on both ps5 and series x, they are both on par in terms of performance(at least in performance mode) but I’m giving the win to ps5 since the dualsence rumble is better than the Xbox’s controller.

Thought it was great .

I really liked it, but holy crap, keep hearing everyone just screaming their abilities got boring faaast

SCREWDRIVER!! SCREWDRIVER!! SCREWDRIVER!!

Welcome to Tales.

What I always liked about the series is the spellcasters would chant a prayer or poem before casting a spell, and the chant would change based on the element and specific spell they cast.

It was so good in Vesperia where if you stacked enough casting time reduction, the casters would literally say “Blah, blah, blah!”

Welcome to Tales.

Haha yea, I played a Tales game on my psp back in the day and have a small memory that they screamed their attacks all the time as well.

First impression, pop up is atrocious, what happened to the super speed ssd? I'm sure the game could run with zero pop up come on, half of the environment is blurred anyway when you travel so what's the problem? Combat is great, enemy design so far super cool, environment looks interesting and inspired. Just the damn pop up is ruining it.

Haven't played the demo, but Scarlet Nexus on PS5 was extremely unoptimized and even crashed multiple times for me. I don't think Bandi Namco has any priority held for the PS5 at the moment.

I'm playing it right now and I'm having 0 issues maybe they fixed everything your talking about. I'm about 30 hrs in

ID: h9frh0s

Yes, blurred distance and pop-in are quite bad. Not sure this will change a lot in final game...

This demo has been made since around June and they haven't touched it. All promo materials also so terrible pop in. This is not going away. This is an obviously rushed project.

pop up is atrocious

Yes it is.

happened to the super speed ssd?

This is not due to the ssd as when you load the game from start menu and area switching and loading battle maps it's all insanely fast (on xbox there is a hitch for loading battles, where as ps5 is all seamless). This is due to what ever code Bamco is using. It's just poorly optimized. I think it has something to do with SFS as I am seeing some of the weirdest LOD switches with texture. I think Bamco is using xbox as the lead console amd is just doing a low effort port which is why we are seeing terrible pop in. Granted in xbox it's not any better which shows they aren't that food with SFS to begin with but at the very least it's not this bad.

I'm sure the game could run with zero pop up come on

If the game wasn't rushed to fuck and back yes it would.

Combat is great

No it's not. It's extremely dumb down and made to be flash with some of the worst controller layout I have ever played. R1 3 times and then use the 3 face buttons until depleted then use Directional buttons when in cool down to keep combo moving. It's hilariously basic. 3 ground artes and 3 Aerial artes. That's all this game allows you to use. This is just horrible. And if you want another you need to pause and switch it out. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea? This is one of the worst combat systems for a tales game ever.

enemy design so far super cool,

Agreed.

ID: h9gamfz

Is it 60fps at least?

ID: h9gmi83

It doesn't look like, it's not capped at 60 AT ALL

ID: h9gfa5v

This probably wasn't a native PS5 game.

I did, not a fan really. Combat is great but I don't like how when approaching enemies it goes black then you get put into a battle arena. Story is told in a bad way. Dialogue that isnt voice acted yet they have voice acted lines when you press R1 to learn about the group. Graphics are good enough and there is lots of FPS hitching in combat especially during those big combos. Basically is a knock off FFXV on a much smaller scale.

Edit- downvotes for my opinion? This sub is terrible. I didn't say the game was trash lol.

You must've never played a Tales of game.

Tales games always have done the "run into enemy, enter battle arena" its a staple of the series.

You know the story is told in a bad way from the less than an hour of gameplay we got? lol. All you do in interact with NPCs, which its normal not to have fully voiced dialogue with, especially in Tales. Skits are also a staple of Tales, they've gone back and forth between not being voice acted and being voice acted.

Did you play in Performance or Graphics mode? Graphics mode is awful on PS5, Performance is a must. No hitching during Performance mode.

Tales is much different (better imo) than Final Fantasy but it doesn't have anywhere near the budget.

ID: h9foux1

Right I've never played a tales game this was my opinion, just because thats how it is doesn't make it good. I played in performance yes there were still hitches.

ID: h9gccho

Pretty much agree. The only one I played without voice acted skits was Tales of the Abyss tho (and they were voice acted in the Japanese version). I figured that was just an early installment weirdness thing and the skits in all the modern games would be voice acted.

The battle style is how this series always had it. They could have opted for ff7 re battle style but they stuck with what they know.

awful take

awful comment

Saw the demo gameplay, visuals are overall stunning. I love the character designs, the world is lush, but I find the combat repetitive and no tactics required, just button mash and choose whichever attack animation you fancy to dish out when the cooldown is done.

ID: h9gg88x

I've played a few and Tales games can be difficult when the enemy matters. Not every fight in a 70-hour RPG has to be challenging if the combat is satisfying to play tho.

Damn about an hour in and I realize I downloaded the PS4 version. Gonna restart and play the PS5 one. Game looked great even running the PS4 one. Definitely gonna be a Day 1 purchase, I love ARPGS.

Yeah it didn’t click for me.

I really tried to like it but all I could think is why are enemies so spongy? Why don’t the combos feel good like using Yuri? Why don’t any of the attacks have weight to them? Why does it feel like the combat is on autopilot? Why can’t I stun lock and combo enemies to death?

I just don’t feel like I have control for some reason.

This series has never been good after Vesperia and graces. I was hoping this would capture the satisfying combat from both of those but sadly it’s not doing it for me. It’s a shame because I really like the cast and graphics finally look like they belong on a ps4!

Maybe I got nostalgia goggles on. I don’t know

10 : Anonymous2021/08/18 19:10 ID: h9fwvlv

PS4 version runs fine?

11 : Anonymous2021/08/18 17:33 ID: h9fjrdo

I hope it's good. DL now via app

12 : Anonymous2021/08/18 19:47 ID: h9g1taj

It was alright. I think I'll have enough fun with the full game.
