How you feel about RE7?

I hardly see anyone on this subreddit talk about it which is a shame because I think it saved the franchise for a while

2 : Anonymous2021/10/28 22:07 ID: hifrof1

Peak horror experience. Hands down, the scariest the series has ever been. I think it doesn’t get enough love from the community because of how much of an anomaly it is.

Main complaint is with the lack of enemy variety.

Came here to say exactly this. Scariest in the series by far!

3 : Anonymous2021/10/28 21:44 ID: hifoju1

I think it's fantastic. It was such a return to form for the series.

4 : Anonymous2021/10/28 21:18 ID: hifkrsr

They went back to SURVIVAL HORROR by using the same elements as Outlast and it worked magnificently.

5 : Anonymous2021/10/28 21:07 ID: hifj5yc

Best survival horror game in the franchise unironically

Say sike right now

Idk re4 was also pretty scary

ID: hig13x0

re4 is one of the least scary imo

It absolutely saved the franchise and not only was it a breath of fresh air, it was also far beyond better than Res5 and Res6(my subjective take).

Agreed. It was the true sequel to resident evil 4 in my opinion that did the series justice. Everything in between was this strange experimental stage where Capcom tried to keep up with action shooters like Halo, Call of Duty, etc.

RE4 was action.

It was my introduction to resident evil (I had seen one or two movies before, but didn’t know they were RE). I am pretty biased obviously, but I really liked it. I mean of course I did or else it wouldn’t have grown my interest for the franchise. Besides that it obviously has flaws and is by no means a perfect game, but I think it has the right amount of horror, story and suspense. I also like how the story flows as you are clueless like Ethan and in the end everything connects and makes sense.

I think it saved the franchise too, but on retrospect I feel it's a bit of a gimmicky experience. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game overall, but it feels different to the rest of the series and I can't say I ever return to it. I've completed 8 several times and unlocked everything - I don't feel compelled to do the same with 7.

Maybe I should go back to it because it has been a while to be honest.

I replayed 8 again as well

I like RE7 more than RE4-RE6, but it still isn't a game I care for at all. I have beaten 7 a few times and I can't say I ever had fun after my first playthrough. It doesn't come close to the classics in my opinion, they are timeless games that I always replay.

I think RE2 remake is a much better modern RE game and I prefer how it was designed compared to RE7. I would prefer more games like RE2 instead of RE7. To me, RE2 was a better way to "save the franchise" because it feels more like the classics while still being a modern game.

It's decent but I liked village way more

Not one of my favorite RE games, but a good entry into the series nevertheless. DLC is good too; punching molded in End of Zoe is immensely fun.

It’s alright. First half is pretty great, second half is boring and exemplifies everything wrong with modern first person horror games.

7.5/10

Amazing. As a long time fan - I was tapped out after Resident Evil 4. 5 was fun just for the teamwork facto

but it didn’t feel like RE. 6 was decent (somewhat horro) but a bit plot insane. The revelations were decent - revelations 2 tried to do the survival horror spin but I think the janky gameplay fell short.

7 re-inspired the whole series and took elements of the old formula/new formula and made something beautiful. True survival horror inducing fear - puzzles - anxiety - and a fantastic storyline that ends up bleeding into and connecting to main characters of the series. It’s a gem - play it if you haven’t. It was one of my favorite games of 2017.

14 : Anonymous2021/10/28 22:45 ID: hifwm6e

It was good for a 1 off thing like another survivor spinoff. Don't really think they should make more in this style.

15 : Anonymous2021/10/28 22:47 ID: hifwwgj

Honestly it’s my favorite in the series, although admittedly I haven’t actually played that many. The fact that it was my first game makes it have some nostalgia for me. Also, the fact that Ethan was a similar demographic as me, instead of an action hero Boulder punching zombie slaying badass, along with the first person perspective and the fact that I like home had little knowledge of the whole B.O.W situation. I felt very immersed.

16 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:08 ID: hifzkif

I used to hate it but it’s a very great game, by being so scary and hilarious at the same time. I played it during lockdown and realized it was a very unique entry for the franchise like my 1 other favorite.

17 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:16 ID: hig0nqg

Amazing game all the way through(yes this includes the Ship)

The only thing that truly objectively sucks in RE7 is the final boss fight

18 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:17 ID: hig0ut9

I played it with the mindset of me not going to like it.

I was so very wrong. It got me addicted to the series.. After I finished 7 I preorded 8 and started from RE0.

I would say though personally I enjoyed playing the games with my significant other at the time rather than on my own. It gave me someone to bounce off of and question things with which is always fun.

19 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:20 ID: hig16jd

3rd favorite re game. the dlc is even better

20 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:26 ID: hig1y52

It starts out really good. But it starts to dip in quality after the chainsaw fight against Jack until it eventually full on nose dives at the boat section. The game basically turns into Cod but with subpar shooting beyond that point. Also cutscenes not being skippable completely kills the replayability for me.

Overall I think it's a good but flawed game.

21 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:37 ID: hig3bia

My favorite resident evil title because of the fear I felt the first time playing it, the only game that comes close is alien isolation for me.

22 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:42 ID: hig3ymu

I'll get downvoted to oblivion for this, but personally, I dislike it. Yes, it does return to the house-traipsing, key-seeking horror style of RE1 & 2, but that's the only similarity to the game's 12 predecessors.

To me, the game plays like a b-rate copy of RE--as though hastily created to appease those angered by 6. There is little variety in the enemies, relatively few to kill, at that. The style of horror differs greatly from the other games in the series, shifting more into sadistic horror than the familiar monster-slaying survival style. You get a few jumpscares mixed in with the sadistic abuse of the protagonist, but not much more. The artistic, atmospheric horror is almost lacking, in my opinion.

The protagonist is bland, as are most of the characters. The story is only so-so, playing out very much like a b-rate horror movie, but a good deal slower. I find it the weakest in the series, honestly. Except for a few archives referencing the events of Raccoon City, a couple of familiar elements, and the appearance of a generic-looking Chris Redfield (looked nothing like the Chris we'd been used to seeing since 5), Capcom could've named the game anything else, and I would never have known it was an RE game. As to replayability value... I found next to none.

This is my personal opinion; I know many will argue right down to the ground with me on it, but opinions aren't wrong; just different. For those who enjoyed 7, fine.

23 : Anonymous2021/10/28 23:52 ID: hig5bpu

I think it’s great! It’s probably the scariest RE game, followed by Revelations.

24 : Anonymous2021/10/28 21:36 ID: hifnc5o

Mediocre game but it brought the franchise on the right path. Opening act was good but it's all downhill from there on.
