Still remember how blown away we were with the climbing animation

ID: hkhtl0o

They were legitimately amazing for 07.

ID: hkikmup

It’s still pretty good, I fired some older games up on backwards compatibility recently.

ID: hkigaff

Graphically I think the first Assassin’s Creed was astounding for its time. I don’t think Assassin’s Creed II looked anywhere near as good visually.

3 : Anonymous2021/11/13 14:43 ID: hkglwek

It's crazy to think that in just 14 years they managed to release 800 Assassins Creed games

ID: hkgonp5

Gotta milk it bro.

They milked it so damn hard, the franchise isn't even about assassins anymore.

ID: hkgp0tg

It's about boats now!

ID: hkgvj4x

You clearly don't understand the franchise if you think it's just about Assassins (despite every game still having assassin's whether modern day or not).

It's a SciFi franchise about the struggle between Order and Chaos in a game universe that encompasses the Assassin Vs Templar struggle as well as the ever present Is

Race + their technology as well as the impending threat to Planet Earth that still hasn't been stopped (Desmond delayed it in 2012).

ID: hkgrgmu

it definitely is still about assassins

ID: hkh5yy0

The titles came out faster than I could play and beat them... so I just moved on altogether. Haven't touched an AC game since the second game. Some of the later games received praise, but without playing the whole story I can't touch them.

ID: hkh6m58

I loved history and this scratched a alt history/sci fi itch. First game was awesome to experience, since most of my games had been shooter before.

ID: hkhl2cv

Games after the third don't really have an overarching storyline that you need to understand to get into them. Just know that abstergo = templars = bad guys, there used to be a civilization of highly intelligent people that created scifi artifactsand that the games (until Origin, I think?) are a simulation and you aren't actually playing the character but genetic memories of the descendants of the characters. You can just jump into them and not really miss anything.

ID: hkhp4bj

Honestly, I loved the games up through AC 3 when the story still made sense. Then it was abundantly clear they gave no shits about destroying the story and start milking.

I played through syndicate, but I always bought every game used on Craigslist after Black flag, as I felt they deserved none of my money.

ID: hkhv7i7

If one of them interests you I would say grab it and try it out. The original “story” with Kristen Bell and the ancestor dude in the future was kind of abandoned by Ubisoft so….. There’s not a story there that you’re missing pieces of or anything.

ID: hkh70hb

AC Odyssey is a good place to touch base with the franchise, not only is it a good game mechanics wise; borrowing heavily from probably the best game in the franchise (Black Flag), it's also a prequel to the entire franchise and establishes some of the core mythology of the universe.

Canonically speaking you could play this game first and it wouldn't spoil any of the later games.

"When I was a young man, I had liberty, but did not see it. I had time, but did not know it. And love, but did not feel it."- Ezio Auditore de Firenze

Best quote I’ve heard in ages and it still stands strong today.

ID: hkhrdpb

"Youth is wasted on the young" - Samuel Clemens, Oscar Wilde or some Assassin's Creed character, I can't remember who said this tbh

5 : Anonymous2021/11/13 15:09 ID: hkgp0d8

Why not a pic of Altair?

ID: hkgpyt3

It would make more sense, you're right. But I personally started with 2 so to me Ezio was my first exposure to the franchise, thus I personally see him more as the face of assassin's creed.

So just biased nostalgia lol.

Edit: apparently people REALLY Don't like the picture I used... Keep the downvotes coming.

ID: hkgslly

The first is definitely dated. But imo one of the best storys.

ID: hkh6d44

You're celebrating the launch of the first game, but posting a picture of the 2nd game. Makes sense.

ID: hkgvyoq

The downvotes make sense, tho. Lmao if youd posted a pic of Altair you be feeling the love. Cause ur title says when the first AC dropped... Not Brotherhood. Lmao just my unwanted two cents.

ID: hkgrpb9

This is for Brotherhood though

6 : Anonymous2021/11/13 15:12 ID: hkgpcm5

It was supposed to be a three parter. It was supposed to be an incredible story.

It turned into a factory cash cow.

I cannot properly express my disappointment.

ID: hkgqab3

Yep. I heard rumour that it was supposed to be a 3 part story all leading up to a modern day story with Desmond having all the skills of his ancestors.

The only reason I'm not disappointed is that the newer games aren't actually bad per say, they're rather good imo, it's just they're bad assassin's creed games.

ID: hkgsyx6

You're right. But the HYPE leading to the game! I bought a PS3 SOLELY for that one game. And the game was GREAT. The story was AMAZING.

And then the marketing department attacked...

ID: hkgw844

It was supposed to be at least 6 games actually with Desmond. That was the original plan when they hired Nolan North.

ID: hkh7xwo

I'm glad I fleed after Ezio died.

II and Brotherhood are GOATs and have a special place in my heart

Haven't played any of them after AC4 but I heard they were decent

ID: hkgqt4m

Same, II and brotherhood were great games.

The games after AC4 were decent, but it depends who you ask really. Some hate them, some love them. Personally I really love Odyssey, Origins and Syndicate but I know others who despise these games.

ID: hkhqtjd

For me

AC1-Revelations: GOAT

AC3: Decent game but nowhere near as good

AC4: GOAT

ACR: Decent for what it set out to do. It was Black Flag 1.5 and a bridge between Black Flag, 3 and Unity.

ACU: In all honesty I love Unity, the only thing holding it back was Arno being too much of a simp. Wouldn't call it one of the GOATs but it's still a great game imo.

ACS: I have a very mixed opinion about Syndicate. It's not a very memorable game. It's got worse combat than Unity. The parkour (whilst running on the same engine) is worse imo because it's not utilised as it should be (which is why there's a grappling hook). I'd probably give it a C.

ACOrigins: The first of the RPG games. Now Origins stands out from the 3 RPG games to me. Bayek is an amazing character and up there with Ezio for me. the gameplay in comparison to the other two was also a lot better for me. Maybe it's the more grounded combat as opposed to the ability spam that the other two had but it felt much better for me.

ACOdyssey: Yuck.

ACValhalla: Also Yuck.

8 : Anonymous2021/11/13 15:11 ID: hkgp6e3

Why not a picture of Altair? Since you know he was the main character in the first one.

ID: hkgpqr4

Kinda biased, but ACII was my personal first game I played in the franchise, so Ezio means alot more to me than Altair.

Plus I thought this picture summarised what the franchise is at its heart the best.

9 : Anonymous2021/11/13 18:22 ID: hkhfh7e

These games have helped me through so much shit. I don't just love them, it's more. Playing them is coming home, playing them is being safe. Feeling strong. They helped me cope with stress which in turn helped me get my drivers license and now I love driving. I love the Ezio ones the most and I truly wish they would remake it like they are now. Same story but open world and same fighting system. I know some people don't like the new ones cause "they're not assassins creed" but I disagree. And I love RPGs so it's truly perfect for me. Happy anniversary ❤️

ID: hkigf22

Still it is an amazing game and one of a kind.

10 : Anonymous2021/11/13 15:15 ID: hkgprsj

I remember seeing the commercials for this game & my jaw hanging in the floor bc of how cool I thought it was

11 : Anonymous2021/11/13 16:13 ID: hkgxetb

What the fuck I’m getting old

12 : Anonymous2021/11/13 16:46 ID: hkh1tzw

Miss old AC. This year I have been replaying the series

13 : Anonymous2021/11/13 19:28 ID: hkhon9k

Posts picture of Ezio to celebrate anniversary of original Assassin's Creed game.

14 : Anonymous2021/11/13 22:54 ID: hkihlqi

The pirate dlc was pretty fun too!

15 : Anonymous2021/11/13 16:13 ID: hkgxbt8

Sad

16 : Anonymous2021/11/13 16:55 ID: hkh352x

The first one had an original concept but was so repetitive - glad they were able to get some sequels out even if they have almost nothing to do with the first at this point.

17 : Anonymous2021/11/13 20:24 ID: hkhwjd2

I remember when I was a kid I had a big surgery while this game came out and I was so excited to play it I read the game manual about a thousand times while in the recovery ward. I knew every mechanic of that game long before I actually got to play it.

18 : Anonymous2021/11/13 14:32 ID: hkgkjww

Odyssey is my favourite on PS4

ID: hkgooi6

Currently playing on xbox. Sooooo incredible

19 : Anonymous2021/11/13 14:33 ID: hkgkpfx

Ahh 14 years of assassins creed games with 3 hours of game and ten more of filler (except 3)

ID: hkglmwf

Cries in tailing missions

ID: hkgzc5x

Black Flag is a really Good game but the first 2 hours suck hard

20 : Anonymous2021/11/13 17:05 ID: hkh4ju6

What a fall from grace.

Used to have decent writers and story.

21 : Anonymous2021/11/13 15:22 ID: hkgqnkr

I feel like I would have enjoyed 500 Prince of Persia games way more
