My first experience with these long tongued booty lickers was way back in 1998. That iconic cutscene in the RPD hallway. Leon looks up and says "Oh boy..." before the licker comes dropping down right in front of him. Now my first instinct was probably the same as your first instinct: "Run like hell!!!". But we would both be wrong.
It wasn't until years later that I learned that the licker's vision was based on movement/sound. Before that? I'd shoot first and ask questions later! But now? I won't kill a licker unless I absolutely have to. They're kinda cute once you get past the whole inside out thing.

My friend spoiled that for me. He got RE2 before I did and somehow he already knew. Saved me some trouble lol.
-
Idk if you saw the animated movie resident evil damnation. But thanks to this movie, I now think lickers would do such good doggos.
-
Isn’t there a file or something that explains lockers are when the t-virus are injected right into muscle tissue and they go off hearing? Either way it was a few playthroughs of the OG I think.

It’s been so long that I can’t really remember. I first played RE2 when I was close to 4. I’ve just kinda always knew beyond that
-
It should tell you in the file you pick up before you get to the first licker. Though I swear there is one that attacks you no matter how still you are. Think it was the third floor in the room with the puzzle.
ID: hkinmdpThe one in the C4 room aggros when it arrives.
I'm 90% sure the art room and interrogation room ones also start aggroed.
Oh and the ones in the lab too.

In Outbreak's fourth level, Hellfire, the final boss summons lickers to distract you. Most people just blow through the boss before it becomes a problem but you can use the hotel's front desk emergency bell and have it play for a couple of seconds which disorients any summoned licker. Sat there for a couple of seconds after the fight like... oh are lickers blind?!
-
Ever since the beginning of RE2 OG
-
Yesterday... I've been playing through RE for at least 7 years..
-
But for some reason in the live action resident evil movies (not the new one) they were able to see and we even saw from their POV in the apocalypse movie when one is about to murder the guy in the church.
And yes I’m aware that the live action movies weren’t canon to the games.
-
I think a file tells you in a game? So by that point at least. Either that happened first or when I walked by the Licker Betas (?) In RE5 and assume they were blind the way the setpiece was set up.
-
Not exactly sure.
Technically I knew on some level when I was frozen in fear at the appearance of the first one and it didn't just rush me.
But consciously? Think it's been too long to say.

Had to boot up the dreamcast and see for myself. Can confirm
ID: hkgyp4oThat's incorrect. After the cutscene the licker drops down and crouches to echolocate you. If you stay perfectly still he'll start slowly crawling without knowing exactly where you are and you'll be able to sneak past him.

The RE2 …. Remake. FML
-
Lickers are blind?
ID: hkgd1sxYup. They don't have any eyes. But they have super good hearing. So as long as you move slowly and carefully, you can slip right past them!
ID: hkgup9gLet's just say that if they hear slow zombie footsteps they will know that you are death and won't attack you.
-
Do you not read the documents that say this lol?
-
It's obvious it tells you they're blind in the remake
-
That was 23 years ago. I have no idea.
-
I found out a few weeks ago playing RE5 for the first time. I'm still pretty new to the series, as I've only played Nemesis and Code Veronica before RE5, and I don't think they were in those games.
I still managed to fuck up sneaking past them in RE5 somehow; I think Sheva just started shooting at them lol. Do they go off smell as well?
ID: hki0hmrSame here. The part where so many lickers was so nerve wracking I wanted to run like hell, but having played RE2 Remake before, I decided to sneak past them slowly, until Sheva started shooting at them and they would start attacking.
I don't believe they go off by smell, just the fact that they're blind and rely on their hearing, sor of like the creatures from A Quiet Place.
-
a year later after i gotten the Gamecube, I kinda forgotten how I figured it out
-
I had no idea til the remake. A file in the game told you straight up to be quiet. Had no idea in the original game though

I think so….I picked this up on my first run through the game….I’m sure there’s a file either in the attic or as you enter the shower room that basically explains they’re blind.
My first run through on professional I never shot or killed one and spent far too long just trying to creep by.
