- RE5 appreciation thread. How many people actually like 5? To me 5 isn't the best RE game but it's so over the top and a blast as an action game. Let's keep this a positive post.

It has the best Mercs mode out of all the games to the point where you can find more people online playing it than RE6.
ID: hlimzizID: hlipkpcI can't say for other people, and I'm not sure my impression of RE6 Mercs is correct, it's been a while. But it seems to me though RE6 Mercs has its good points, a lot comes down to QTE (quick time event) button presses. A zombie swings at you, timed button press. A zombie leaps at you, timed button press. Timed button press for everything. RE6 Mercs movement is fun, and you do need skill to get a high score, but I guess it just doesn't feel as engaging?
RE5 Mercs has way slower movement, but that's okay because it means you have to play well to not get hit. You're doing a lot of special melees, but there it's not about a precisely timed reaction to an enemy attack. You set up your special melee with shots that may or may not stun, with different sorts of stun depending on the part you hit, then your special melee comes out differently depending on your positioning and the stun you inflicted.
So suppose I take BSAA Chris. If I remember right, his handgun has a pretty high critical, not reliable enough to head-explode zombies to do a last-moment rescue on a kill chain, but way too high to shoot zombies in the head as a matter of course, trying to inflict a stun so you can follow up with a Straight melee attack. (If the head explodes, then no stun, no special melee). But BSAA Chris can fire 2-3 shots (either works fine) into a Majini, ending with a leg stun. If Chris is in front of the Majini and does a special melee, he'll do Uppercut, which hits a small area in front of him so can hit multiple targets. If Chris is behind the Majini and does a special melee, he'll do Neck Breaker, which only targets the Majini, but also has a small knockback effect so will push away surrounding enemies, giving Chris some freedom to move after he recovers from his special melee animation.
Sound interesting so far? There's a bit more to it. If you're a good Mercs player, then you'll shoot multiple Majini quickly, inflict stun on one, then kill *multiple* Majini with a single Uppercut special melee. That's how you get high score. Actually there's even more to it than all that, but I won't get into it, you get the idea.
Contrast to RE6 mercs. It's like . . . .timed button press. Are there complications? Sure. Like if you want high score in RE6, I think it's what, you do grenade cancel into melee, then everything that dies counts as having been killed by a melee so you boost your score? But once you get the hang of it, I wouldn't say it's EASY, but it feels less involved than with RE5.
I think RE6 was really great in terms of how player characters could move, but I feel the enemies just couldn't keep up. If the enemies *could* keep up, probably RE6 would be too hard for most players though, so eh.

Finished it like 8 times

Loved it. Replayed 5 too many times to count. I personally think it was a nice change to the usual horror theme of RE. Not to mention the coop was one of the best I've played. Always a blast with a friend.
-
I know pretty much all the locations of the collectables and even enemy placement, you could say that I'm a bit of a fan of the game.
-
My favorite thing about RE5 and 6 is that they're fun, action-packed games that don't really work well as RE titles. But they're still fun as standalone games.
I love having a beer and just running through the linear story. I also like keeping the online co-op open to anybody who wants to join. It's still surprisingly populated and fun to chill with other fans beating these games.
-
It's alright and I enjoyed Jill's/Wesker's return. I prefer RE6 overall though.
-
Played Mercs on it last night no mercy mode once a week still. I love re5 and 6
-
Great game.
-
5 gets a particularly bad wrap, even though it's very existance is because of 4.
-
The opening sections in the slums are iconic. Up there with RE4's village. Still looks excellent too.
-
Played 4 and 5 the most I think. Some of my favorite gaming memories are while playing coop in 5.
-
It is literally my most played video game of all time. Over 2000 hours. Multiplayer is just top tier. It’s not the best RE like you said, but it’s a total blast. Nioh 2 is catching up in hours tho lol.
-
I think it's a firmly above-average re title. Not as good as 4 or 6 but still pretty fun especially the first half.
-
It’s better than RE4 imo
-
I like it a lot.
-
Great game to play co op, not enough split screen co op games these days. Had a great lazy weekend beating this with my GF.
-
I loved 5 and still play every now and then especially if I can find someone online to coop with. I also love the mercenaries mode.
-
My favorite story. Super ridiculous, but felt like a classic "gang back together" story. Also I love Wesker.
-
Will 100% say I did not like RE5 at time of release. Beat it once and didn’t touch it for roughly a decade. Picked it up summer of 2019, and I was stunned at how much fun I had with it. Not a game I am touching every day mind you, but I don’t mind playing a run of it once a year.
-
It's my favorite RE game along with RE 3, REmake, and REmake 2, it blew me away how good it looked back in 2009 and it still blows me away today, and I never had any issues with the Sheva A.I.
-
My introduction to the series and a solid "Series Finale" for the OG story beats. Something like a Halo 3 or a Return of the Jedi. You can comfortably stop there, I think. Six could be seen that way too, but YMMV.
-
5 is my absolute favorite
-
I love 5. I was blown away the first time I played the demo.
-
Funny thing, Resident evil 5 is like #7 on my top of Resident evil games, but is the second one I've played the most, I completed it like 10 times, and really enjoyed it
-
I love this game to bits, along with re4 for a very good reason : both have a semi-joke semi good action flick type of thing going on and it's so refreshing to play.
-
Positive post.
Okay.
I'm positive it left the horror genré and is too much action, just like 2 - 4 and 6.
RE was designed as horror.
I think they simply veered too far away from that element, while still making a fun game to play.
Fortunately, they brought back the horror element in parts 7 and 8.
Part 5 has more of a suspense factor than it does horror.
No hate though, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to analyze the comparisons.
Out of all the game series out there, RE falls into the top 3 out of 7 total.
-
It's in my personal top 3.
-
I do!
This game knows exactly what it is and doesn't take itself very seriously. It's got a B movie vibe to it, but it's so fun and entertaining. I love the opening segment and there's something very satisfying about being able to punch enemies in the face. It makes my top 5 list.
The mercenaries looks fun, but I'm so laughably bad at it. Maintaining that kill combo bonus is much harder than it looks, for me anyways.
-
This RE, has been finished by me on at least 4 consoles as of today. Not my proudest achievement, but damn it was fun to play it with a buddy.
-
Why is Jill on the cover and not Sheva?
-
My first Resident Evil game that I played. It brings back good memories of the first playthrough with my dad.
-
Only fun if you have someone to co-op with, even a stranger, but if you have someone it is my second favorite behind REmake 1
-
Lol where's Sheva? are you serious they didn't have Sheva on the cover even though she's literally 50% of the playable characters?

I’m confused, is this the cover from Revelations with RE5 superimposed?
