Do you need to kill all zombies in a room? [RE1, PS1/SS/DS]

1 : Anonymous2022/01/18 16:17 ID: s715rp

I feel like I'm going mad.

I could have sworn that there was some version of the original Resident Evil that required killing all the zombies in a room or the next time you went in that room all of the zombies would be alive again.

Yes, that was with the zombies having a pool of blood underneath them.

The first version of the original RE I played was on the Sega Saturn so I'm not sure if it was specific to that version. It felt like the game was keeping track of rooms being cleared, not individual zombies being killed and I'm sure it was mentioned in the game manual.

So does anyone know of any version of the original Resident Evil (original PS1 release, Director's Cut, Sega Saturn, DS) that required you to kill all zombies in a room or else the killed zombies ended up respawning? Am I just having a Mandella Effect moment?

EDIT: Copying from a reply for more details
"room with 3 zombies and killing 2 but leaving the 3rd alive respawned all 3. All standing, no landmine zombies lying prone. I remember being an issue in both the west staircase and east staircase as well as the hallway on the upper floor that connects the east stairway to the main hall."

Longtime RE head here, you might be thinking of REmake it had a mechanic where zombies that were dropped but not burned would rez as crimsonheads in the mid/late game. RE was all about ammo conservation and time so killing every zombie wasn’t required.

Nope, definitively not thinking of the GameCube remake with the Crimson Heads. Spent enough time burning bodies to remember that and know it wasn't them but thank you

No worries, I am curious now too if/where this mechanic was used in a version of RE.

I second the "Crimson Head" mechanic. I remember meeting my first one, it was frightening. Consequently my " 1st Time I Crapped My Pants as a Teenager" story is one in the same.

but no for the original, I don't recall that being a thing either.

I don’t think this is a thing in any version of RE1 but this a dope idea for a challenge mod.

I'm going to have to find a copy of the Saturn version and test this, aren't I?

Yes - report back.

You might actually be misremembering this), but it doesn't exactly match your recollection of a version of the main story with this respawn mechanic.

As far as I know this isn’t a thing in any of the RE versions.

Like if you entered a hall with 3 zombies, for example, 2 were in your way and 1 was off in a corner. So you killed the 2 in your way and left the one in the corner. when you reentered this hall later the 2 in your way would still be in your way? like before or would they be in a pool of blood alive instead? For some reason I remember zombies being alive in a puddle of blood. It was so long ago. I especially dont remember the need to clear out a room/hall so it would remain empty. I do however remember being bitten by prone zombies I thought were dead already. its all a blur though, its been so long since I didnt have a complete set route.

Like you said, room with 3 zombies and killing 2 but leaving the 3rd alive respawned all 3. All standing, no landmine zombies lying prone. I remember being an issue in both the west staircase and east staircase as well as the hallway on the upper floor that connects the east stairway to the main hall.

I was looking around and found that what you are talking about is in fact the Saturn version. Like you said the manual actually had tips like clear a room completely so it isnt full or completely avoid combat as much as possible.

I completely forgot the first battle mode was on Saturns version of RE1 not RE2.

There was no hunters in the sewers/undergrounds tunnels they were ticks instead which look very much like hunters.

Thanks for starting this topic. I forgot there was a battle mode in RE1 and had no idea it contained a zombified Wesker and gold Tyrant.

Very interesting, I really need a Saturn and its version of RE1. Just the idea of the uncensored things, like the live action intro. When you shoot off a limb it doesnt disappear. This might just be exclusive to the Japanese version though.

Sounds like you might’ve had a bugged copy.

Man, I don't ever remember this. And I had beaten the original on PS1 when it came out (used a strategy guide since i was so young lol).

So I can say with relative certainty, the original PS1 game (not a port, not dual-shock, not directors cut, etc). I know you were saying you played a port so my situation probably doesn't apply anyway.

Good luck searching, I think everyone has a thing we all totally remembered, but now somehow is different lol.

Re remake and the leechhunter mode in re0 where the only games where i got screwed by respawns

8 : Anonymous2022/01/18 18:52 ID: ht7mo0o

Nope this was never a thing and you’re misremembering. I’ve played every version of the game that exists and this isn’t a thing in a single one of them. Sorry friend :/

I’ve played this one a lot and I don’t remember this but I played the ps1 version of the game. Maybe it’s Saturn specific like you mentioned.

It might have been zombies coming through the windows? That happens in various hallways.

ID: ht77kid

That's only in the GameCube remake from what I remember so no, it wasn't that. Thanks though.

It happens in RE2 original I think, if not RE1. I played directors cut of RE1 and I don't know if there's a difference. I do know there's a lot of cases of zombies returning to areas in many games, but I really can't think of what you're talking about. Head scratcher.

11 : Anonymous2022/01/18 18:01 ID: ht7efjh

I haven't played the DS version but I don't think I've ever encountered this.

12 : Anonymous2022/01/18 21:00 ID: ht87mk4

I think only way this would happen is if you didn't kill them all the way. Just downed them once.

13 : Anonymous2022/01/18 21:21 ID: ht8b0fp

I don't know of any RE game with that particular mechanic. There's a room in Code Veronica where the zombies infinitely respawn no matter what you do, but that's the closest I can think.

14 : Anonymous2022/01/18 21:30 ID: ht8cenp

Sounds like the battle mode in the Saturn version. Do you also remember Zombie Wesker?

ID: ht8fynw

It can’t be Battle Mode, zombies don’t respawn and you can’t revisit previous rooms. As soon as you clear the room, you’re teleported to the next one.

15 : Anonymous2022/01/18 22:25 ID: ht8ld6g

Maybe the lab area with the different looking zombies?

16 : Anonymous2022/01/18 22:29 ID: ht8lwvc

Maybe this room with these zombies? They respond but I don't know from what conditions
