- Can someone explain as to why the original re1 and re2 aren’t available on anything?
-
They're no longer in print due mostly to there being remakes out now. Only way to get them is if you have old disc's or cartridges of the classics from PS1 or N64.
ID: hxsfop7ID: hxslc72It's tied with re1 remake for my favorite.
ID: hxsjjzpI got lucky and purchased them from the PlayStation store on playstation 3
ID: hxspgslThe only reason I have my PS3 still is I have all three Fatal Frame games on it. There are a ton of other games, but there are better ways to play them now.
ID: hxshnw5emulating is always morally correct
ID: hxtnf7hYea, I play these all of the time on my PSP.
ID: hxu3iplAlternate: Resident Evil PC release and RE2's 2006 SourceNext PC port with the Classic Rebirth mod/patch.
Not played the original outside of my PS1, but the RE2 one is solid.
ID: hxs1317[removed]
ID: hxs3ox0Same goes for PS Vita.
ID: hxsvk1rU can still get them on the ps3 store
ID: hxslat0Or gamecube, or sega saturn, or sega dreamcast, or nintendo ds, or ps classic, or ps vita.
-
They’re not on ps3 psn?
ID: hxrrmkzThey are but it's awkward as you need add funds to your account using more modern methods and not on PS3 itself, plus it's two gens old and are better ways to play them.
A PS1 classic with emulator to run more than default games is fantastic. RE1 Director's Cut was released on that also :p
ID: hxrudb3Yeah I had to buy a gift card I think, I bought them on the Japanese psn. Best way for me anyway is getting an xstation and just putting them on sd card. Combined with a good crt tv, eye candy.

There Are PC ports of the first 3 games but there are so many different versions, quirks, bugs, and a general lack of uniformity that i doubt Capcom thinks there is a big enough audience to make up for the labor that would go into re-releasing them in an acceptable state. You can still by all means download and play them on Windows 11 surprisingly well, but people would probably give negative reviews if they just released what's already there onto Steam and called it a day. The PC versions are usually seen as some of the most inferior ones.
ID: hxskiutAllow me to introduce to you the Apple of Eden Classic REbirth patches.
These are aftermarket patches created in the past few years which add quality of life changes, ensure that the games boot and run nicely on modern Windows, create a framework for mods, better 3d models, support for re-encoded video file, and generally make the games playable on PC.
You'll need the original PC releases in order to work with these patches, but I've tested the ones for:
Resident Evil Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil 3 Dino CrisisAnd they all work flawlessly on my Dell XPS 13 running the latest version of Windows 10.

Yeah it is worrying, luckily I still have my PS2 and original 1996 copy of Resident Evil
ID: hxrq89wIt just seems like a no brainer to re-release the classics, hell I’d buy it if it came as a trilogy. I wish I had the old ps1 but just got the ps2
ID: hxrvoacI mean, the chances are they'll re-release them in some form that can be monetised, especially considering there's still a large market for the OG games. At least the PS2 is still capable of running the old titles depending on which version you have of it
ID: hxsle47Re2 is great on gamecube and re1 is great on ds.
-
I play them on my PS Vita
ID: hxrtjm4I do too. The Vita is great for psone classics.
ID: hxrxinyIt really is!
ID: hxrw3obSame. Thought I was the only one
ID: hxsfws6lol you can literally buy both games if you have any ps3, psp and vita. guessing op didn’t bother looking ……..at all
-
The most modern console I have them on is my PS3, other than that I’m stoked I held onto my Dreamcast, GameCube, and original PS1 copies.
ID: hxs7f6eI held onto my gamecube copies, which I'm thankful for because the value on those keeps going up, from what I've seen.
ID: hxsgnxuI almost sold my GameCube copies once, the price really hasn’t stopped climbing.
I’m also sitting on twin snakes and skies of Arcadia legends. Retirement is gonna be sweet.
-
I’m playing code Veronica and it just came to mind, any insight is appreciated
-
This post is a Psy-op by Capcom to remind us of this before the announcement of a classic collection. Also, they are available digitally on PS3.
ID: hxsjwqfLol I wish I was involved like that but no, I’m just a guy that likes to play zombie games. A classic collection would be nice still
-
Because Capcom has a vendetta against me, personally. Sorry that the rest of you have to go without because of it. 🙁
-
You can still buy classic RE2 and 3 on PS3’s store. You have to add funds to your wallet first and then buy them from the store. Each is $5.99USD
-
Honestly I just added funds to my psn wallet via the PlayStation website and bought them through the PSN store off my base ps3 for 10$ each. I have all three original RE titles downloaded to it now plus the classics like dino crisis and metal gear. It's not that difficult really if you already have a ps3
-
I play them on my jailbroken PS3, if that helps anyone.
ID: hxs66g2Should mention you don’t need to jailbreak your PS3 in order to play them
-
They're available on PS3. So is Nemesis. I should preference though that the RE1 on PS3 is the Directors Cut
-
I have them on my vita tv
-
If you still have a PSVita they are available there.
-
You can buy them off the PS3 store
-
I also would love to be able to play them without having to find all the cords and everything for my ps2 or ps3, then find space for them all, and then switch consoles when I want to play modern games. Seriously, SE is doing well with how many times they have re-released classics (and the pixel remasters are amazing too), I don’t know why Capcom hasn’t tried it at all
-
Who the fuck knows anymore
-
The original games should be available as a compilation, but sadly they're not. Fortunately I have the re1 director's cut, re2, and Nemesis installed on my ps3.
-
The original RE was included on the PlayStation Classic which was essentially Sony’s answer to the mini NES and Super NES.
That’s probably the only recent port it’s received.
But to answer your question overall, it’s likely because the GameCube remake did just about everything better, especially in voice acting. Though I don’t blame you for missing the original Jill Sandwich line, lol.
-
Emulate.
-
I have all three of the originals both physically and digitally (ps1 disc, ps3 digital) and I’d love a release of them on modern consoles with high res backgrounds and an option to skip doors and cutscenes, hopefully one day…
-
The ps4 remaster had the original game on it?
Edit. Remake to remaster
-
???
they're both on the PS3 PSN store
-
Huge mystery to me why Capcom hasn’t put them out. Would sell well and cost almost nothing to put out. They’ve ported everything else and have a ton of legacy Mega Man and Street Fighter collections.

Then I guess I’m just one lucky bastard! Really recommend the OG res 2 btw
