Here's a comparison of current #ResidentEvil3 (left) and one of the screenshots Capcom released of the upcoming next-gen update (right).

The new screenshot looks much brighter overall, but that's most likely only due to different brightness settings in options.

You can tell the reflections look cleaner and more detailed, and the lighting is a bit different (area behind the boxes is much darker now).

Jill looks dirtier. Maybe the game applies those dirt textures to her dynamically? I doubt that's a change with the new version as there won't be content changes. It could also be due to the developer taking the screenshot in a debug mode where they loaded the level with a Jill from early in the game.

Overall, I expect graphical changes to be similar to what we saw with DevilMayCry5: Special Edition, which is better reflections and slightly better lighting thanks to ray tracing.

I'm curious how they implemented the DualSense support. Would be nice if PC version gets it too.

For me it’s all in the dirt in her shoulder. Looks so good in the new patch.

ID: hz7f5te

I don’t actually think this is changed though. I’m pretty sure the developers just moved this model to NEST2 on their end for the shots. Because when you enter you walk through a decontamination shower. So you look like the left pic. Not the right.

I’m almost positive the dirty model people are talking up so much isn’t new or updated (at least on PC), and just usually isn’t present here because she gets it wiped away just before this.

The new screenshot looks much brighter overall, but that's most likely only due to different brightness settings in options.

Actually it looks more like the lights in the room are actually lighting the room now, possibly due to them revamping the lighting system

Look at picture 2, the room is more lit, but the dark spots at the top are still there because if the way the light sources are placed.

So actually seeing ray tracing doing it’s thing with lighting? Pretty cool.

ID: hz6vcbi

It's already confirmed that this update is coming to all platforms, for RE2, 3, and 7.

ID: hz6yac8

I've platinumed RE3 but I for damn sure will be going back for a sightseeing tour on my lunchbreak when that drops.

5 : Anonymous2022/03/03 13:20 ID: hz6goeo

The old version is so dark you can't even see the zombie.

6 : Anonymous2022/03/03 14:06 ID: hz6mfjm

Looks like ray tracing will be added. The lighting looks way better and the reflections look great also.

ID: hz9dezl

But the zombie doesn’t seem to be either reflecting or casting any shadows. I like how the scene looks otherwise but it’s like the zombie is just kinda pasted in there.

7 : Anonymous2022/03/03 12:48 ID: hz6d3rw

It just looks brighter

ID: hz6jhf8

Jill has noticeable more filth on her.

Im guessing more textures are being added game-wide.

ID: hz6ke23

On her...

ID: hz6o6n5

Better lighting engine probably. Taking advantage of the raytracing of the new consoles.

And the textures are a bit better. Jill has more dirt and stuff on her, the reflections int he walls and floor are better, etc.

Interested to see how taxing the Ray tracing will be. I found the performance to be very inconsistent in RE8 at launch using an RTX 3070 until they patched it several months later.

ID: hz7d6m2

Raytracing worked quite well on ps5, aside from the lake section in re8 it ran nearly always at 60fps for me. However it did REALLY chug at the lake

9 : Anonymous2022/03/03 15:57 ID: hz72e6b

What's that meme? "They're the same picture".

Seriously though, one of my complaints for the remakes was that they were just too damn dark at times, so bing brighter is a plus. But is it the only change?

I just want the cut content. Clock tower and early street areas. Otherwise, I'd prefer a rerelease of the original game.

ID: hz7whnj

They stated that there will be no new gameplay additions

ID: hz815qe

I was sure there wouldn't be, but it just reminds me of how badly they shit the bed on RE3make. RE3 was my favourite of the original games and RE3make has so much cut out.

No new content = I'd rather have the original RE3 available on new consoles.

10 : Anonymous2022/03/03 14:26 ID: hz6oyza

Heres to hoping we'll see the gore from the remake of 2.

11 : Anonymous2022/03/03 14:29 ID: hz6pg6p

This patch is pointless if they don’t make the re3 zombies handle like re2 remakes.

It’s literal shit that u can’t blow off limbs

12 : Anonymous2022/03/03 14:07 ID: hz6mj56

Initially, I didn't like it the way others did, as I prefer the less lit and darker visual.

Having looked at the extra detail put into the next-gen patch, there's plenty to appreciate, especially with the reflection of the two lamps on the left side of the wall, next to the ceiling where said-lamps are.

13 : Anonymous2022/03/03 16:09 ID: hz7465x

Zombie has no reflection on the wall. 0/10

14 : Anonymous2022/03/03 15:26 ID: hz6xl3d

So it’s just brighter ? Like I don’t understand

15 : Anonymous2022/03/03 13:11 ID: hz6fpbj

Pretty nice

16 : Anonymous2022/03/03 12:51 ID: hz6dh1v

All I can see is that the game is brighter. Perhaps in motion it would be easier to see a difference

17 : Anonymous2022/03/03 12:52 ID: hz6dm5j

I like the dark, it adds to the "something bad happened here" vibe.

ID: hz98zno

Yeah, it's almost like it's a survival horror game or something.

18 : Anonymous2022/03/03 13:32 ID: hz6i3da

More bullets. Nice.

19 : Anonymous2022/03/03 14:44 ID: hz6riyk

it looks like they just slide Gamma higher

20 : Anonymous2022/03/03 14:52 ID: hz6so1h

ohh say more detail on jill, gotta love it

21 : Anonymous2022/03/03 16:54 ID: hz7b2o5

hol up the left one is next gen right? right?

22 : Anonymous2022/03/03 19:50 ID: hz82n3d

Not gonna lie kinda looks worse to me

23 : Anonymous2022/03/03 23:38 ID: hz8zfqi

A bunch of bullshit bloom basically

24 : Anonymous2022/03/03 17:19 ID: hz7f1e9

Just turn up the brightness on your TV .. boom your ps4 is now a ps5

25 : Anonymous2022/03/03 13:46 ID: hz6juh5

So... More dirt and new light bulbs?

26 : Anonymous2022/03/03 12:28 ID: hz6b3h8

People care too much about graphics man

Both pics look fine to me, but some people will lose their minds over it

Edit: to clarify, I’m talking in general not this specific insignificant patch

ID: hz6cpqo

It’s just a nice to have for me

ID: hz6elgl

It's a free patch.

Feels weird to say it's bad to be excited about it.

ID: hz6ytm0

Honestly, I'm more pumped about 3D audio support. Dolby Atmos in RE2:R makes a huge difference. For example in Sherry segment you can tell where excatly irons is based on sound alone.

It adds lot to the immersion.
