I have this crazy idea to make the most unique chess board but I could never start it properly due to depression and the life kicking my ass casually. Finally finished this one and hopefully it's the first step in the right direction.

ID: gspho19I've been in that place too. Been depressed but I found out that if I treat life problems like that then I'll trap myself in that negative cycle forever. Now if something "bad" shows up I think about what is it trying to tell me, where should I improve. Changing my perspective to a more supporting one helped me immensely. I don't see myself as a victim anymore.

Ok this looks great, but what will be unique about it?
ID: gsqmdb0That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I was sure there would be some kind of mechanism in the board so that when you claimed a piece you could flip the tile and banish it into the box.
It’s a very nice board but far from “the most unique” in my opinion.

It is very beautiful and functional.
I have an onyx chess board and set and sadly it all came in a cardboard box and the box didn't hold up so now I have to just carefully place the pieces in a container and lay the board inside a floofy towel for safety and storage.

Wow. I need to earn more money so I can buy art from you. Everything in your profile is amazing. Lots of people can do woodwork but to do it with such vision is 100% unique to just you. This might be a weird question but where do you get the inspiration for your designs?
ID: gsop2myFirst of all thank you for saying that, it means a lot, really. Where do I get my inspiration? Hm honestly I thought it was from my ex wife. I always thought that I love her so much that it pushed me to start making art. But now she's not with me anymore, and I thought my inspiration/creativity is gone forever. I just now start seeing glimpses of that creative set of mind again and that's what pushed me to finish this board. I hope it all comes back soon
ID: gsoshuyI’m sorry to hear about the end of your relationship and how much hurt that caused you. I’m no artist but I do like to buy art, and sometimes do interior and remodeling design in my job. From what I gather, a lot of people make art from their emotional extremes. Extreme joy with your wife and then the turmoil from when she is no longer with you. I wish you extreme happiness again. In any case, you should be extremely proud of this. When I look at the design of your works, it gives me kind of deco vibes, or bauhaus style almost. So visually appealing and I bet the touch and sound are nice aspects too. Maybe even the scent. Those golden statuettes on the corners! I just LOVE it.

That's gorgeous! A small suggestion for your next one, it looks like you may have enough vertical space in the drawer to store the pieces upright instead of laying on their side, that may be even cooler.
