I distinctly remember that night. It was on a Monday night and I made sure to put my pre order at Gamestop near the bar where I always watched Monday Night Football games.

As soon as the game was over, I walked across the street and only had to wait in line for about 15 minutes.

Got my copy of Halo 3 and then pulled an all nighter until I had to leave for work at 7 am.

Peep that Gamer Fuel. I still have one unopened can somewhere…

ID: h19ubhk

That Halo 3 gamer fuel was some of the best soda I've ever had. Iirc Arby's holds the rights to that flavor now similarly to taco bell and their hold on Baja Blast

ID: h1b4lv6

I love how I got to have that experience atleast once in my life

ID: h19n1ay

Surprised that it's still sealed - I remember during the prequal Star Wars trilogy they had the Pepsi cans with the Star Wars characters on them - I don't remember how many there were, but I had all of them.

A few were unopened but most of them I had poked a pinhole into the top and drained out. . .A few years later many of the unopened ones ended up seeping out through leaks that eventually seemed to happen.

ID: h1ant08

I kept an unopened can of Halo 3 mountain dew for like 10+ years after the Halo 3 launch.

Eventually it leaked (no idea how!) and got nasty so had to throw it out. But it was a nice decoration piece while it lasted. 🙂

I remember staying up for the midnight launch of MW3 and then playing it with my cousin till 6am. Different times man, different times.

6 : Anonymous2021/06/10 10:57 ID: h19ki94

Those days were the best!

ID: h19krdz

They really were! A golden age of gaming.

ID: h19qk1g

Getting home from school on a Friday afternoon and staying up all night playing halo with the boys. An absolute blast.

Metroid tho

ID: h1addm8

I still can't believe the last proper (non handheld) Metroid release was 14 years ago with Metroid Prime 3.

I don't purchase many Switch games but Metroid Prime 4 will absolutely be one of them whenever it finally gets released.

8 : Anonymous2021/06/10 16:02 ID: h1alg7f

God, remember when people used to wait in line for games like they were a finite thing?

ID: h1biinz

Not so much the quantity. It was wanting to get it as soon as it was released and playing it all night.

9 : Anonymous2021/06/10 12:52 ID: h19vj16

I bet your the one with the hair.

10 : Anonymous2021/06/10 13:28 ID: h19zwgv

I don't remember doing anything special for the Halo 3 launch, though I did get the collectors edition with the helmet. Still have it displayed in my basement.

Halo 2 was the big launch for me. Met a bunch of people waiting for the midnight launch and instantly had several people to play with once it went live. Played with a of them for a while. Good times.

The poster in there makes me real sad… c’mon Nintendo, give us a new Metroid game!!

ID: h1aeaao

Well, it's coming....at some point...

Nintendo moved the development from Bandai/Namco over to Retro Studios in 2019 due to not being happy with Bandai/Namcos progress. And it wasn't just moved, the original progress by Bandai/Namco was completely scrapped. Retro is starting from scratch.

Bandai/Namco pretty much wasted over 2 years of development time as the game was originally announced back in 2017.

And even with the development moving over to Retro in 2019, there is still no release date on the horizon.

The fact that it's been 14 years since a proper (non hand held) Metroid game is mind boggling to me.

Well good thing there’s quite a lot of content from the community. AM2R is an amazing remake of Metroid 2 (arguably better than the official remake on the 3DS) and the countless amazing Super Metroid romhacks (e.g.: project base 0.8) randomizers (VARIA), and multiplayer conversions (Multitroid).

12 : Anonymous2021/06/10 13:53 ID: h1a33i3

Halo 3 was a damn good game.

13 : Anonymous2021/06/10 14:04 ID: h1a4m9l

Amazing days, love to see it

14 : Anonymous2021/06/10 15:19 ID: h1af0qi

I got mine the day of launch at blockbuster! Went to rent one after work, it’s 11:30pm of course there’s no copies to rent. Defeated me goes to front desk to ask if maybe they have one hidden for idiots like me, guy says not to rent, but to buy! Says they have a preordered copy left, he’s personally called buddy 4 times and he hasn’t shown up, asked me if I wanted it, thanked him and made happy memories with my younger brother playing co op!

I worked at a game store for the launch of Halo 3.

We were doing a midnight launch, and I was working the regular closing shift.

I stayed in the store until the midnight launch, I fired up one of the rental copies on a demo Xbox in the store and played through the campaign before anyone got in the store.

My brother and I waited outside Video Games Etc! and were first in line. We got the Legendary Edition. I told my professor at the time that I wasn't coming in because Halo 3 was coming out and he said that I needed to check my priorities. My brother and I got the game, played it until 3 in the morning, played more the next time we got up, played the day after, and I went to college the day after that. Saw a note on the door that class had been cancelled the day Halo 3 came out because my professor's wife had a baby.

Thank you Halo baby! Didn't miss a class because of you!

I did this for GTA IV. Had to work in the morning. By the time I got home, waited for the console to finish its magic of installing / updating the game, watched what seemed like 20 minutes of opening credits, It was around 2:30 am. I played about 5 minutes and went to bed. Never again.

18 : Anonymous2021/06/10 16:58 ID: h1atqn4

Oh man, halo 3 launch with a Metroid prime 3 poster in the background. The nostalgia is real in this picture!

19 : Anonymous2021/06/10 17:09 ID: h1avckm

I love how I got to have that experience atleast once in my life

20 : Anonymous2021/06/10 17:47 ID: h1b0w0d

Remember spending all night driving all over town to get the PS2 on release day. Best Buy had the shortest line...went home with Tekken Tag and Madden. Good times.

ID: h1b1fv3

That PS2 loading screen hits me every time. A legendary console.

21 : Anonymous2021/06/10 17:53 ID: h1b1s5v

Yo I had that Xbox! Master Chief edition lets goooo!

22 : Anonymous2021/06/10 17:55 ID: h1b202e

I was in college. Me and a few dormates waited in line for hours.

23 : Anonymous2021/06/10 17:56 ID: h1b26vw

I miss midnight releases so much

24 : Anonymous2021/06/10 18:03 ID: h1b35ei

Halo release is always something special

25 : Anonymous2021/06/10 18:20 ID: h1b5obc

Ah, the nostalgia. Am I the only one who sees the Xbox 360 on that poster?

26 : Anonymous2021/06/10 14:11 ID: h1a5gno

I feel like computer games peaked at Halo 3. I actually can’t describe how excited I was to open Halo 3 and assissins creed with a new 360 at Christmas in 2008. That shit just hit different.

Glory days my friend, I cherish them dearly.

27 : Anonymous2021/06/10 13:59 ID: h1a3vyh

Awesome pic

28 : Anonymous2021/06/10 14:35 ID: h1a8sq5

Thanks for the reminder that Metroid Prime 4 probably won't ever happen

29 : Anonymous2021/06/10 15:01 ID: h1acgie

Shotty Snipes on The Pit

30 : Anonymous2021/06/10 15:13 ID: h1ae9dj

Just replayed metroid prime corruption on an emulator on my pc recently. Such a good game

31 : Anonymous2021/06/10 17:21 ID: h1ax33p

I recently did my 1st run for Halo 3 and i think it's great, for it's time, now when i see scripted big scale battles i sleep and dream about PlanetSide 2, that MMOFPS doesn't have anything scripted and is x50 times more chaotic and massive than Halo 3. I liked Reach way more tbh.

32 : Anonymous2021/06/10 17:59 ID: h1b2n5j

I see even Shaggy dropped by.

33 : Anonymous2021/06/10 18:50 ID: h1ba0zy

I used to wear that same Mt Dew shirt lol.

34 : Anonymous2021/06/10 19:05 ID: h1bc58a

I would have been about two months old that day, goddamm

35 : Anonymous2021/06/10 19:06 ID: h1bccj3

I remember that time but I was awake for something else still good old time

36 : Anonymous2021/06/10 19:14 ID: h1bdkw9

I definitely went to a H3 midnight release. Did a few Maddens as well since it used to come out within days of my bday every year. Now we just stare at a timer until it flips to zeroes lol. Not nearly as fun.

37 : Anonymous2021/06/10 19:48 ID: h1bi49u

Unfortunately I was on a church mission at the time so I missed out (glad those days are behind me)

38 : Anonymous2021/06/10 19:54 ID: h1bj10l

Halo 3 was my first good video game. Before I got it with a 360 my parents only ever bought be shovelware kiddie games for the ps2. Going from shit like shrek the video game to halo 3 was crazy to me, had no idea video games like that existed.

39 : Anonymous2021/06/10 20:08 ID: h1bl3ai

I still have my legendary edition sitting around somewhere!
