It's crazy that we got all of this the year of Covid
2 : Anonymous2021/07/29 13:15 ID: h6yatq6

Covid hit these games late in their development cycles. The ones more likely to be affected are those slated for 2021/2022.

And 2021 really has been a slow year so far.

ID: h6zq4v3

I was thinking this year was pretty awful. Got my ps5 paperweight at home waiting for some solid games to be released….

ID: h6zkhk6

Dude, just realized we're more than halfway through 2021 and I have played basically no games from the year.

I played RE Village and am going to play Horizon. That's it. If the reviews for Life Is Strange are decent, I might play that too. This is a pretty bad year.

ID: h70ge4h

And correct me if I’m wrong but Horizon doesn’t even have a confirmed release date yet, right? We’re still clinging on to the hope of that 2021 window.

affected*

ID: h6yzrzd

Thanks, mein grammar fuhrer.

ID: h6ziy1j

Exactly right. First time in decades that developers had some breathing room to put their soul into the game and not just the deadline.

ID: h6ye1wf

yea, its realy visible in anthem vs outriders

ID: h6z2tgm

I really liked outriders but the game was so broken I stopped playing.

3 : Anonymous2021/07/29 12:27 ID: h6y5ixd

Some amazing games there, not really different form any other year though

4 : Anonymous2021/07/29 13:57 ID: h6yg1fa

Well 2021 was the year where you really notice the effects of Covid. Cause this year has been flat so far, except for Capcom, who has had its best year ever probably.

ID: h6zdhhc

Imagine telling people in 2014 that Resident Evil is coming back in the 2020s

ID: h70b5vs

Imagine telling people in 2014 that Capcom is coming back at all. God, they were pushing out such terrible turds during that time. Glad they finally figured out what made the Monster Hunter series good and what made 99% of gamers never want to lay a hand on it.

5 : Anonymous2021/07/29 14:49 ID: h6yn0jt

I bought and played 6 of these games!

6 : Anonymous2021/07/29 12:32 ID: h6y60yu

We'll feel the impact of covid on games development in like a years time I think. Most of these were basically already done.

ID: h6ydrdz

yea, impact of covid can be felt in early 2021, remember anthem? it failed, but outriders what is objectively worse game made larger success because of gamepass and lack of new games relased at same time

ID: h6y6d0o

I wonder how Nintendo's doing because they haven't released a lot of new stuff lately

7 : Anonymous2021/07/29 13:04 ID: h6y9kg4

Also Microsoft Flight Simulator, letting people see the world while stuck in their house.

ID: h6y9phb

You’re right, that was a huge tech-achievement honestly, sorry for forgetting about that one

8 : Anonymous2021/07/29 19:12 ID: h6zp2lx

Half-Life Alyx is absolutely one of the very best games I've played in my life.

9 : Anonymous2021/07/29 17:29 ID: h6za2zn

Where's Valheim?

That's probably the biggest hit of the whole pandemic.

Team of 5 made 60+ million in 5 weeks.

It was one of the best games I've played in decades.

ID: h6zr761

Best game in decades?? I figured it was covid and everyone being at home that made the game so popular. I thought it was just okay and sorta just another survival game. You never even hear of it anymore, really

ID: h702l85

It was basically the co op experience.

Idk, if you had a good buddy to play it, it was just the best.

ID: h70ces9

It was good, not that great. Just another crafting survival with a different art style. It's pretty much dead now

10 : Anonymous2021/07/29 15:12 ID: h6yq6o7

The FIRST year of Covid, you mean.

11 : Anonymous2021/07/29 16:05 ID: h6yxu2p

Why is this crazy? COVID resulted in billions of people sheltering in place with a lot of free time on their hands. This is just the market responding to consumer demand.

12 : Anonymous2021/07/29 20:50 ID: h703aya

Ngl I thought half of those games kinda sucked…

13 : Anonymous2021/07/29 14:36 ID: h6yl4r0

As great as these games are, I haven't played ANY of them.

ID: h6yl6ph

Tell me what kind of games you like and I’ll recommend some to you

14 : Anonymous2021/07/29 12:24 ID: h6y56ph

Big ol' meh from me

ID: h6y62pc

Genuinely curious as to why. Not fond of single-player games? Not enough shooters?

ID: h6yh0bx

Not enough good RPGs for one...

15 : Anonymous2021/07/29 16:34 ID: h6z1vuq

Didn’t like any of them funny enough

16 : Anonymous2021/07/29 13:44 ID: h6yedx6

Actually it was a good year if you had a ps4 or ps5 (which i have)

And I think you should put Cyberbunk in there, still a really good game

ID: h6yi6qa

Haha no. Cyberpunk can be included when it comes out of early access in 2023.

ID: h6yeofr

FF7R and TLOU2 were controversial for their stories but still mentioned because they’re GOTY quality and complete. Cyberpunk however… that’s on a whole different level. Sorry I didn’t include it but I don’t think it deserves to be next to the other games

ID: h6yh8y2

Yet a shotty DBZ game does..? Bahahaha

17 : Anonymous2021/07/29 18:44 ID: h6zl1zk

I'm going to get fuckin' blasted for this, but...

Aside from Ghost of Tsushima, Hades and Kakarot, all of these are sequels or remakes. And even Kakarot is based on a popular license. I mean they're all good games, but is any wonder the game industry is unwilling to try new ideas?

ID: h6zx3hl

I guess I'll ask this. Are sequels not new ideas? They are new stories. Is the issue that the gameplay is the same? Because at that point I feel like the argument could be made that once you've played one RPG you've played them all. But that's obviously not true.

Like I understand the argument on remasters like Demon's Soul's where the game is, for the most part unchanged. That game is a fantastic remake, and was made so that it could hit a wider audience than the original(except good luck getting a PS5.) But I do understand the criticism that they aren't new. They don't bring anything new to the table for anyone

But like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, its nothing like the original. It's got a more in depth and therefore different story, and different gameplay. It all comes off as new ideas to me.

I think using Final Fantasy the series raises some other questions. Had they not incremented the number(ie FF1, FF2, etc) but just given each game a different title would you consider them "new ideas?" As they are do you just consider them sequels, despite(for the most part) the games are unrelated?

18 : Anonymous2021/07/29 14:21 ID: h6yj5ll

Considering Last of Us Part 2 paid to delete reviews I would never say it's a good game based on that.

ID: h6zt2ev

Source?

ID: h70frts

Source: Trust me

ID: h6ykkll

Just wanna say it’s the only game from the list I did not play, but I felt it had to be mentioned because many people enjoyed it (despite the controversial story)

ID: h6ykgnh

Source?

19 : Anonymous2021/07/29 16:07 ID: h6yy1ek

Half-Life Alyx is legit the only noteworthy game on there..

20 : Anonymous2021/07/29 12:55 ID: h6y8kuv

Where’s Cyberpunk…?

ID: h6y91jo

Controversial one tbh. Bugs aside, the game lacked too many modern mechanics (that many old games have) and promised features. A lot of content was cut out to rush the release. You can check the first trailers for yourself, for example there was gameplay where you would hook onto walls with a blade fused into the arm (non-existent in final product)

ID: h6ybqc1

tbh. i never got on the hype, didnt watch the trailers or pre relase gameplay and game gave me everything what i except, so good polish voice acting, polish va is so rare nowdays and well made one? is like unicorn

21 : Anonymous2021/07/29 18:32 ID: h6zjbeu

Last of us part 2 sucked

22 : Anonymous2021/07/29 17:14 ID: h6z7x5s

Was the last of us 2 actually bad? Or was it just the homophobes and transphobes that didn’t like it? I asked my old roommate why it was bad and he said “bc it’s gay”
