Probably just zen4 desktop chip in large form factor laptops with tdp limit, there's already a workstation laptop running 3950x

ID: hh58fhq

5950X works great at 65W custom power limit. 45W wouldn't be a stretch, and there are many laptops now capable of running 65W out of a CPU

ID: hh5kb37

Thanks, Intel!

ID: hh5f2n0

My pl1 is 65W. Pl2 110W. That's with an 3 year old 8950HK in an Alienware 17 R5. Granted there are not a lot machines coming out with the old form factor, it should still be doable with a wide area spreaded vapor chamber like a clevo usually uses on the high end models DTR's

ID: hh7iwje

My laptop processor runs at 82w, i7 11800h at 4.31ghz. Msi gp76 laptop. I applied a small overclock and .065mv undervolt in the bios.

ID: hh3wfn6

I think the same.

ID: hh7d9ic

Unlikely since the desktop chips with the seperate io dies have terrible idle power draw. This will be a laptop SKU or a desktop xxxxG SKU that has integrated graphics as well. As denoted by the -H which is usually reserved for those types of dies.

ID: hh7n225

have terrible idle power draw

These are either workstation laptops or heavy gaming laptops. They last just 2-3hours on power, battery life ain't the sellin point of these. A comparable gaming laptop running the 11980hk's got a tdp of 65w and draws up to 100w during boost. There's 0 idle power consideration in those

Desktop CPUs from 45W to 105W, think that we will have how many cores and treads per chip?

An Athlon Warhol desktop CPU be cool!!! 🙂

ID: hh3gqe2

An Athlon Warhol desktop CPU be cool!!! 🙂

I'm not even sure what you mean that should have, spec-wise. Though of course it won't be Warhol (I'm guessing you meant Raphael), it will have a different name.

ID: hh3zf9x

Ok! Then what do you think of a V-cache line-up like!? ( with V at the end ) Example:

( 4c 8t ) 6300 V / ( 6c 12t ) 6600 V / ( 8c 16t ) 6800 V / etc...

...Or use the Ryzen 6000 series Non-V-cache and have the Ryzen 7000 series with the V-cache???

ID: hh4dfpw

I wish they could just refresh the 5300G into Athlon. I'll take a 4300G if that doesn't happen

ID: hh4g5xe

45w to 140w. I read somewhere that AMDs next socket will support up to 140w. Unless I misunderstood you, then just ignore me then.

ID: hh4sx8s

I heard it was up to 180 watts

ID: hh4ouka

You have a point, see AMD has not officially confirmed the CPU line-up, for all we know 16cores may not be the Max CPU core number!?

We will have to wait to for official news on that...

Till then its just speculation, maybe!?

4 : アノニマス2021/10/18 13:38 ID: hh3uyy3

It's been a long road to get to a CPU with a decent gpu on board.

5 : アノニマス2021/10/18 15:55 ID: hh4dept

Not too long ago we finally got 8 cores CPUs in high performance laptop CPUs. Q1 2023 will be the best year to upgrade CPU and GPU for sure.

6 : アノニマス2021/10/18 10:17 ID: hh3buxp

Far more interested if it will have the same amount of L3 cache (including V cache if any) as desktop Raphaël.

ID: hh3dauw

It should use the same chiplets, I think that's the point. V-cache, let's wait and see.

It's an interesting thought, though. If AMD is planning Raphael with V-cache from the get go, it's certainly possible that there will be a mixed family with both V-cache and without.

ID: hh3wm65

Mobile series are monolithic, so they would manage to make chiplet and i/o die work without breaking tdp limit.

That would be a new chapter in their engineering book right ?

ID: hh3dulm

Maybe an Athlon class of chips without V-cache???

ID: hh4jq3c

Chiplets on mobile are a huge no-go. Current breed of chiplet-based ryzen CPUs consume upwards of 34W under idle. Ryzen is only efficient during load which saddens me greatly. Due to my setup, my computer idles at almost 100W which is a bit ridiculous (CPU + 6800XT + X570s + PSU power loss). CPU stays at 25 W PkgWatt and only 1.2W CorWatt. GPU maxes out VRAM clock due to differing monitor refresh rates (60 Hz + 165 Hz) and stays at around 34 watts.

ID: hh63n01

I don’t believe Zen 4 is launching with v-cache. The last I checked, they can’t yet do it on N5, not because of anything technical, but because TSMC hasn’t expanded to N5 yet. My information is out of date, however, so I could be wrong.

It may also be in AMD’s interest to hold Zen 4 c-cache until Intel refreshes it’s lineup.

7 : アノニマス2021/10/18 19:08 ID: hh55nfs

This might stack up nicely vs the m1 pro/max chip

To be fair, i hope amd can pull the ressources and use chiplets to it's maximum on laptop (separated cp

dies with external vcache on package)

8 : アノニマス2021/10/19 03:48 ID: hh6zksf

At 65 watts, isn't this just putting a desktop chip inside a chunky laptop and hope for the best with cooling? Wouldn't be the first time we see a 65 watts tdp CPU is inside a laptop.

ID: hh7lklz

Probably something like that, but I'm expecting we might see a few more designs with 16 cores this time, in part thanks to the iGPU now being available for the desktop parts too.

9 : アノニマス2021/10/18 15:45 ID: hh4c2gj

Raphael H is my name 😮

Tell us about your clocks. And birthday date.

10 : アノニマス2021/10/18 20:19 ID: hh5g12r

wonder how they will perform compared to apple new m1 pro max

ID: hh5i3ds

power consumption as well

ID: hh65q8h

Lots more power consumption but it will run Windows and Linux soooo...

ID: hh6utn0

It'll cost 1/3rd the amount, draw more power, tie-ish on CPU, and get its ass kicked on GPU.

11 : アノニマス2021/10/18 20:34 ID: hh5i7e6

Considering Apple just threw out a banger. I'd say this is required to not be left behind the way Intel has

ID: hh6umww

It doesn't matter to many people as ecosystem precludes comparison shopping from one to the other. Add in cost delineation being a HUGE factor now. To get the top-end Apple chip you have to spend $3,500. Only businesses will be buying these in any real numbers.

ID: hh66k1m

Intel's more equipped to compete with Apple laptops than AMD is in the near future. Alder Lake's new architecture and 14 cores on a laptop should match the M1 Pro/Max in raw CPU performance.

Zen 4 may change things, but it's not expected for another year.

ID: hh6lj0h

Alder Lake's new architecture and 14 cores on a laptop should match the M1 Pro/Max in raw CPU performance.

That will not be a popular comment on other subreddits. Was finding more information about new AMD CPUs for laptops in 2022, I was instead stricken with the constant bombardment of "AMD and Intel is dead, lol".

But, how would a 14-core benefit that much in a laptop? Seems like more of a power issue that I'm concerned about rather than performance.

ID: hh7nw68

CPU performance isn't the main issue. M1 performance cores are FAST, but they are also power hungry. Next generation Intel and AMD products should compare quite well against that.

The real issue is the GPU. There's nothing on the horizon from Intel or AMD that even has a chance of coming close to what Apple has to offer. It's simply nuts.

12 : アノニマス2021/10/18 18:18 ID: hh4ybfa

That would get me to upgrade my laptop before its refresh cycle...paired with a fast enough GPU I might actually retire my desktop then. That would be damn amazing. But, AMD has to do this one right. The Advantage program has been a joke outside of HP. Also, only HP has the correct IO port setup to use something like this (mDP+HDMI on dGPu for proper display spanning, USB-C on iGPU for Alt-DP mode) for docking station support and such.

AMD you really need to get your house in order before something like this drops. If Intel starts to drop that kind of core spread when you do, and if your partners are shit like they are all today (

You are just pissing it all away.

P.S I will not be doing your job for you again. That Asus bullshit was the last time, you can burn with your future mistakes moving forward.
