Not burst your bubble but I believe Tyr is Angrboða’s father since she has no parents in the Edda. Tyr traveled to many places and one of them is Egypt thus her skin color… Just saying we could be looking at two stories of two God of War’s and their kids destined to cause Ragnarök..

Very unfortunate cropping

ID: hcsu9yy

Oh hell, now I can't unsee it

ID: hcsvb4y

I dont see it.

ID: hcsyxgk

He touch the boob (or maybe NGRBOD)

3 : Anonymous2021/09/14 10:15 ID: hcsx0ds

Whose bubble are you bursting?

ID: hcsxb0f

Some people think they turned Angrboða from white to black just for fun. I believe there's story to it that Santa Monica had in mind from the beginning.

ID: hcul6bw

But she wasn’t white either. She was a giant, likely a frost giant.

ID: hcsxgk0

I mean they'll probably have a reason for it, would be pretty dumb if they didn't

ID: hctypuv

Do those people know who voices Kratos?

4 : Anonymous2021/09/14 09:51 ID: hcsveid

Not to burst your bubble, but Angerboda is a jætte, and therefore can't be the child of an Ase and a human. Not unless they completely change the mythology, of course.

ID: hcsvln5

They already have changed the mythology, a lot. As someone commented above, Angrboda is the mother of Jormungandr, who appeared in the first game.

ID: hcsw660

Remember jormungandr was implied to have been knocked literally into the past, also the snake (through mimir) made reference to how Atreus "looks familiar" which isn't possible unless the boy is still the serpents father.. There is a time travel/anomaly aspect to the game story that is only lightly touched on

ID: hcsvtmc

She's the mother of midgårdsormen in the mythology as well. She's also the mother of Hel and Fenrisulven.

ID: hcujwe7

I think you are little late to the party about 'completely changing mythology'.. Kratos (spelt Cratos) doesn't kill all the greek gods and isn't Loki's father and surely doesn't travel to the norse lands to cause havoc. They are writing their own story using characters from the myth so literally anything goes.

ID: hctru6u

They have completely changed the mythology, Kratos's kid is basically Loki.

ID: hcv1zgc

Kratos' kid IS Loki...

ID: hctsfu7

The mythology is already changed so much it's barely recognizable.

I love the game, but it's got very little to do with Norse Mythology.

ID: hcsvv2n

Isn't Tyr's father Hymir which is a Jötnar? If Kratos a Greek God can have with Laufey a kid so can Tyr have a kid with any other "Goddess" a half blood Jötnar kid. I know in the Edda, Tyr is also seen as Aesir and considered Odinson but what is what now at this point?

ID: hcsx91l

Isn't Tyr's father Hymir which is a Jötnar?

That depends on which version of the Edda you're subscribing to. In the older Edda there is a reference to Hymer being Tyr's father, while in the younger Edda, Tyr is the child of Odin and Frigg.

If Kratos a Greek God can have with Laufey a kid so can Tyr have a kid with any other "Goddess" a half blood Jötnar kid.

I haven't played any of the GoW games, so I can't really comment on that. But since you're using the Edda and Norse mythology in general to explain why you think Angerboda is the kid of Tyr, then I can also use the Edda to explain why she can't be 😛

The only reason I commented in the first place was your phrasing of "I hate to burst your bubble...". Which means "I know you think otherwise, but you're wrong (and I'm certain of that), and here's why..."

5 : Anonymous2021/09/14 09:17 ID: hcst6bu

Tyr is the nordic god of war and treaties, son of Odin.

ID: hcu3h7s

He's also considered the most honorable of the gods.

With him and Angerboda showing up, I'm VERY interested in finding out if we're going to be seeing Fenrir too.

Having her be from ancient Egypt wouldn’t dictate her having those features. There was one period where part of the nation was conquered by people from Ethiopia, other than that they were largely a Mediterranean people. There were even Egyptians with red hair, including Pharaoh Ramses II.

ID: hcua9zd

I agree Egypt with describing Egypt as Mediterranean since Egypt had people from modern Ethiopia, Greece, Iraq all intermingling. The issue with that though becomes that they’re distinct ethnicities but are far less distinct in regards to race. although if her mother was an Egyptian goddess then she should be more cat like

ID: hctk3nl

Perhaps the Nubians, you mean? Pretty sure they are north of Ethiopia, while Ethiopia is nearly hugging the east coast.

ID: hctuimz

Yes, the Nubians. They established a kingdom called Kush and gained control of lower Egypt for a time, declaring themselves Pharaohs. Meanwhile upper Egypt still had its own government and line of Pharaohs. I think there were five Kushite rulers of lower Egypt before upper Egypt managed to oust them and re-unify the country.

7 : Anonymous2021/09/14 10:34 ID: hcsyf7o

Does Tyr have 2 arms in that pic?

ID: hcszrw7

Yes just not chomped off yet

8 : Anonymous2021/09/14 14:05 ID: hctkn8b

who is ngrbod?

ID: hcu2nx7

Angrboda but cropped poorly

ID: hctqyrx

A Jotun and spouse/lover of Loki who birthed Fenrir (a wolf) Hel (a goddess of death) and Jormungand (a giant serpent.)

9 : Anonymous2021/09/14 18:15 ID: hculk6m

If that's the backstory for her, than I think a lot of the backlash over her character will be forgiven. I kinda understand how her character could normally be out of place in a game set in ancient Europe.

10 : Anonymous2021/09/14 19:29 ID: hcuwrqe

The fuck is that name?

11 : Anonymous2021/09/14 11:50 ID: hct4x7u

I'm just glad artists finally have the opportunity and tech to make really really GOOD LOOKING black hair other than the boring fade or 2000s flat-textured cornrows.
Her hair is incredible.

ID: hctz373

I don't know why you're downvoted. Because it's absolutely true, I'm glad we are starting to see good looking hair that isn't straight hair. I was pretty annoyed with all those hair tech demos with silk smooth hair everywhere. Where's all the frizzy, curly or coarse hair? They also deserve some love.

I've never found a game where a character or a character customization option that comes even close to my hair. I hope we get there one day,

ID: hcu3pfc

Yeah, more diversity and more options for character creation is always a good thing.
There is some progress, Miles in the latest Spiderman game has great hair, too, even if a bit boring, but it's well made.
But yeah, we need the equivalent of the Black Desert character creator with more options for black hair, skins face etc. The Hashashin was a step in the right direction, but we need more Black women.

12 : Anonymous2021/09/14 15:51 ID: hcu024c

Why are people so obsessed with her skin color

13 : Anonymous2021/09/14 17:15 ID: hcucmq9

Remember when GoW was in Greece? lol now i miss it.

14 : Anonymous2021/09/14 10:56 ID: hct044t

Could also be a way for them to bring in other cultures once they are done with the vikings

15 : Anonymous2021/09/14 15:43 ID: hctyta8

Dont forget the "always needed relationship plot" in every. Fucking. Thing. Stop making games like TV shows already companies.

16 : Anonymous2021/09/14 14:26 ID: hctnmli

Lets be honest, they added her to be black because they wanted a bit of diversity in the skin color department.

Lets not go too deep into the "how do we explain this" hole. Could she be black? I have no clue. Lets just hope they added some new gameplay elements and the story is good without some crazy twist that doesnt make sense.

ID: hcu04dj

That’s gonna be a yikes from me dawg

17 : Anonymous2021/09/14 12:01 ID: hct5wg0

Well, literally anything could happen here.

Originally, Angerboda and Loki are the parents of jormungandr, Fenrir and Hel.

Two of which have already been shown in the first game.

Angerboda is also a Jotun/Giant, who were all supposedly extinct in the first game (Laufey/Faye was the last in the games timeline)

18 : Anonymous2021/09/14 15:47 ID: hctzde4

which game is this fml

19 : Anonymous2021/09/14 09:14 ID: hcsszn8

Let me know if there is any conflicting elements in this theory. I'm not well versed in the Edda's but it's not important anyways since the game takes its own spin of the mythology.

My original thought was that it is essential to know the parents if a important character like Angrboða is only a young teen like Atreus. But I couldn't find any lore about Angrboða except that she's a Jötunn (in my case maybe partial Jötunn) and Tyr also is since his father is Hymir.

ID: hcsu27y

Angrboda doesn't look egyptian though, she looks West African

ID: hcsuebh

So in Norse Mythology Angrboða is the mother of Fenrir, Jörmungandr and less importantly (with regards to Ragnarok) Hel.

Both Fenrir and Jörmungandr play pretty big roles in Ragnarok including killing Odin and Thor respectively.

Tyr comes into this as he somewhat unwillingly plays a crucial role in the binding of Fenrir which leads to the subsequent breaking of Odin's Blood Oath with Loki (Father of Fenrir, Jörmungandr and Hel.) That start the inevitable sequence of events that lead to Ragnarok.

Angrboða and Loki are Jötnar in the Edda so not strictly speaking gods.

ID: hcsuyl2

What I meant about "I couldn't find lore" is that I couldn't figure out her parents or origins. In the game she's probably just as young as Atreus so her parents might be no that far away. All this is open for interpretation.

ID: hcsudrv

Got to remember that the lore isn't all that relevant. In the original stories Loki wasn't the son of a Greek maniac responsible for kicking seven shades out shit out of multiple pantheons.

Also at once point he becomes a lady horse, gets railed, and gives birth to Sleipnir. Probably won't see that in the game either.
