- GTA Vice City (Original vs Definitive)

That much traffic is going to be a problem.
ID: hhvqcajID: hhw8mjdPedestrians are only a minor inconvenience too
ID: hhvw6lgNot if you are on a bike...
ID: hhwosvtHMMM NICE BIKE
ID: hhx18zkMy guess is that they added more traffic just for the trailer to make the world seem more alive. I'm guessing the traffic in the actual game will be similar to the originals.

there needs to be more darkness in the remaster, it has bloom and nice lighting effects, but the art direction of the original is nice
ID: hhvv4igIdk, those neon lights give off quite a bit of light IRL.
ID: hhwn7iyAlso the pitch black sky is unrealistic as you would have tons of light pollution in a bright neon city like this.
ID: hhwlyo1They do. It's the lack of shadows that creates the problem.
ID: hhwf2pxtrue, but it seems like they lowered the contrast/ and increased the brightness overall (IRL there is way more darkness even with neon lights)
ID: hhwqjqsI've been to Ocean Drive and the Remaster definitely looks a lot closer to reality. If it looked like the original I'd never go there for fear of being mugged in the darkness.
ID: hhwlbshBy comparison, 3 is darker, Vice City is brighter, so they did balance it accordingly.

What do we do?! The remastered version is supposed to be released tomorrow and we just lost all the data!
"BLOOM."
Uh, what sir?
"BLOOM!"ID: hhwd2vgYou can clearly tell that the game is retextured and in some cases models were updated as well. And for me personally bloom is a good look for Vice City, which seems like a fever dream already.
ID: hhwdo6vJust reminds me of the "ultra Realism" mods for some games where they have perpetually wet roads that have no spray from wheels so they can have bloom and reflections on it, then crank the saturation up and pretend it looks better.
ID: hhwjo40Kabloom?
"Yes Rico kabloom!"

Is the soundtrack the same?
ID: hhw3j83The fact they haven’t said anything about it makes me think “no”
-
If billie Jean isn't on the radio throw the whole thing away
ID: hhw4g8tConsidering the re-releases on PSN and mobile had certain songs removed, I’m waiting to see if they licensed the original songs again before I buy it.
ID: hhwgygxIf the soundtrack ain't the same we ain't buying the game.
ID: hhwoe1zUnless any of the old songs are free use I'm pretty convinced the entire soundtrack will be different

Looks kinda....plastic.
ID: hhvdf66It's fantastic...?
ID: hhvg4ukYou can brush my hair

I bought the trilogy a while ago on PS Store and was amazed at how many gaps my had brain filled in. The frame rate was so shocking, the graphics were nothing like I remembered and the controls and aiming system were laughable. This remaster has nailed how I remember these games. Pretty keen to play these again.
-
I’m just not at all impressed with the “remaster.” I can’t see how the price tag is justified.
It looks like they just added some light touch ups one weekend and said “eh, that’s good enough.”
ID: hhw3cvoI can't believe hangar 13 who made Mafia did a better job than rockstar.
ID: hhw6wzvOh, I didn’t know they remastered it. It was one of my more favorite games.
ID: hhwhtneI mean, Mafia Definitive Edition was a full on remake whereas the GTA Trilogy are just remasters. They're not really comparable.
Mafia 2 was a remaster, and not a particularly good one. Mafia 3 Definitive Edition was just Mafia 3 with all DLC.
ID: hhwyo2qWatching the gameplay trailer, they did add polygons to people and vehicles, they added object / prop density to many plot-relevant locations, jacked up the resolution, redid lots of textures, and at least doubled the frame rate.
ID: hhwdgdzTbh, I think GTA 5 made Rockstar games kinda greedy and lackluster.
GTA v came out 8 years ago...
They only original thing they've done since then is rdr2, which in all reality was likely well into production before Rockstar saw the money grab GTA v could be.
And before GTA v, they were putting out quality games every 2 years or so.
Don't get me wrong, I played the hell out of GTA v, especially GTA online. But they milked online to no end.
And the game is on the third console now. I bought GTA v for my PS3.
It's really quite sad.

It looks better but honestly I think the problem with remasters is that you’re just mapping new graphics and models on top of an old game. Still the same game, same animations, maybe some quality of life improvements, but they aren’t going to redo everything so that it looks like a brand spanking new thing. It is just a new skin on top of an old system.
ID: hhx245kIt’s a new engine. New physics. New particle effects. New lighting. The map will be the same, everything else has to be reworked into the new engine let’s just wait to see.
ID: hhwcppiStill the same game, same animations, maybe some quality of life improvements, but they aren’t going to redo everything so that it looks like a brand spanking new thing.
Isn't that what people wanted, considering all the nostalgia around Vice City and San Andreas?
ID: hhwg3cvMaybe I'm still high on the Diablo 2 remaster but yeah that's exactly what I want. Well and the shooting could use a slight update, but other than that the whole atmosphere hast to stay intact.
ID: hhwsx9vPeople actually want a new GTA game. It's been like 10 years.
ID: hhw62qbThe controls being updated alone is worth it for me. III and Vice City are unplayable for me. SA is fine, the other 2 I find so hard to play.
-
Something about the remaster seems bland.
ID: hhwfv16I think it's the washed out look of the textures. The original graphics don't look great, but they feel alive because there was a real focus on textured looks. Now, the models move and do look better, but looks like the fidelity of the models had to be wiped a bit to do so. I feel like its ok with the mixed palette of III and SA, but with VC's bright color contrasts it makes the game look very cartoony like roblox.
-
I can’t speak for anyone else but I am looking forward to this. When these games first came out I was a kid and my parents were super strict about age ratings for video games. I didn’t play an M rated game until I was over 18. I tried San Andreas when Rockstar gave away a free PC copy but the controls were a bit dated. It felt like it would be more at home on a controller. I played GTA 5 also on PC and really enjoyed it so I’m looking forward to being able to play the earlier games on Switch or PC.
-
So they turned up the brightness?
ID: hhv9ek2And saturation.
-
OG gives the vibes though.
ID: hhvwh6cThe dark of night, juxtaposed with the glow of neon, gives an extra seedy vibe. The remastered looks a bit too bright.
-
I'd rather they remake it. After playing thps 1+2, a remaster will never be enough ever again.
-
people in the comments seem to not know what the difference between a remaster and a remake is. Mafia 1 definitive edition was a remake, Destroy All Humans! 1 2020 was a remake and so is the Destroy All Humans! 2 2021 too, stop comparing remakes to a remaster
-
Where is GTA6 you will do anything except release a new game
-
Rockstar can we just get another grand theft auto please?
