- NFT's In Gaming – A Short Story

Just looked at his gameography and this dude has like a perfect track record: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out, and It Takes Two are all bangers.
ID: hovus2xID: how07y9I feel like if you bring up Secret of Mana on the SNES he’d talk himself blue in the face lol.
ID: howtmpzA hero we all need
ID: hox4otyTrue. Cooperative mutual experience where everyone is unique tasked with their side of the game and not "Hey, you can play with another player or alone cause that does not change the gaming experience at all"
ID: hovwh6jHe’s quite known in Sweden for directing movies before he started making games. He’s obviously been very good at translating those skills into games without skimping on good gameplay (yes, I’m looking at you David Cage).
ID: how1xizHis own brother plays one of the main characters in A Way Out as well!

The original always cracks me up. So glad that we got the sequel to Josef Fares' iconic rant when It Takes Two won GOTY.
ID: hovtcgeYou could tell Geoff was bracing for another rant.
ID: howlyyxI felt like it takes two winning was so satisfying after the bullshit take two lawsuit.
ID: hox0blhNot to mention it legitimately deserved it. I've never played such a well polished, well paced, fresh, wonderful game. The fact that it was not only coop but accessable coop that I could play with my wife made it one of my favorite games. I don't think I've ever agreed with a GOTY pick as much as It Takes Two.

Josef Fares’ iconic rant is the greatest speech in gaming of all time

Whatever happened to games simply just being games? Isn’t the whole point of a playing a video game is to feel the sense of escapism?
ID: hov5isfYeah, your money is escaping your bank account now.
Same same.
ID: hovun1fBut different
ID: hovzqxnThe business side of games has always been about emptying your pockets of quarters. When people left arcades for physical media it had to be eating away at the executives souls.
We're just getting back to form where they can now digitally empty your pocket of quarters.
ID: houny0omoney
ID: hovkeb2Seriously. I'm feeling very "back in my day..."
ID: hovvub3Will nobody think of the Psychopath Executives? They get pwn0rt, ownd and bitchslapped around by POOR PEOPLE!!! They dont like to go face off and devolve into narcissist rage from a videogame, they just want to be seen as superior. And hey it makes them money. And everything that makes money is automatically a good thing in our Society.
Its what you are supposed to do, grow, consume for the sheer sake of it. Who needs reflection, relaxation or escapism from the nightmare world we have allowed to be created by this minority.
Just be a cancer and you'll do great.

WTF are NFTs? Non-fungible tokens??
ID: hovaq8oYes, game companies want to use them to sell virtual items and then let users create markets around them, so that they can increase the price of virtual items and profit
ID: hovgeamSo what we've already had with a new name
ID: hovguoaSo basically steam market?
ID: how0kd9Sounds like CSGO skins to me.
ID: houz87mNasty Fucking Things.
ID: hovl59fOr nice fucking titties
ID: hoxii3zSounds awful. I prefer my tokens fungible.
ID: hoxn747Seriously, what the hell are these things? I've tried looking into it on my own before, and the concept just goes completely over my head.
ID: hoxzdu7To the total novice:
Consider the field of car titles. Each one has a distinguishing, unique identifier; just like a serial number. Each one describes an individual car, its owner, the sale price, etc. etc. and is basically a collection and certification of information. A title typically gets an authority and/or a witness to sign it, creating authenticity (meaning, as a way to prevent forgery). The unique signature and serial number can be used to prove an agreed ownership.
Now we translate these concepts to some digital forms. The serial number is still the same, but the forgery prevention technique is much more complicated and involves "digital signatures" instead of real ones. The nice thing about digital signatures is that they use a specific type of math that makes them easy to independently verify as authentic. Your computer does this very procedure all the time while browsing the web; each website uses a security certificate that is quite similar to a digital title, down to the third party signature.
So, on to an actual NFT. Digital certificates are non-transferrable - meaning, you can't just give a digitally signed file to someone else to transfer ownership of the item it represents. A digital signature is revoked and issued fresh in this case, because each one must be crafted from whole cloth in order to be verifiable with that fancy math I talked about earlier. An NFT is a transferrable type of digital certificate, and it works using the same digital signature and serial number concepts in a very different way. The details are complicated and out of the scope of this post, but the summary is: an NFT is a transferrable digital title that can be arbitrarily created and assigned by pretty much anyone.

I think Penny Arcade was rather on point: ”why dont you make the game itself the NFT so i would actually own the game i just ’bought’ from you”.
-
When game devs realize they're giving up a portion of copyright on their IP, I think they'll change real quick. This is all just buzz. How do you make a resellable asset in a game? How do I have rights to that? If you take the game off of the server can I sue, that's my property they took offline
-
I buy games to play games not to gamble. Same with thing with loot boxes.
-
God, I reeeeaaaallllyyy hope this is another stupid trend that’ll be gone in a year.
-
Fuck NFT's in general
-
Well, time to get ready for 4-5 years of NFTs before it has been exploited and scumbagged to the point of being outlawed. The only positive take from this is for the publishers, stockholders and their wallets. They sure are invested in making NFTs and it's implications as the next new thing already. I am 100% confident EA, Ubisoft etc will fuck this up for the entire industry.
-
Fuck NFTs in general. Fuck off with this shit.

Alright, I need someone to explain to me what NFTs have to do with games because last I heard NFTs were pieces of stupid completely useless intellectual property people could buy and sell because somehow enough people actually put value on them to the point trading them is profitable.
ID: how3pe1NFTs are "unique" tokens on a decentralized protocol.
In video games, a developer could choose to pin in-game items to individual NFTs. This would mean that ownership of those items is controlled by the decentralized protocol.
The game is responsible for "rendering" the item/NFT. But the actual ownership of that item/NFT is not controlled by the game's servers. Thats the basis of the notion of "play to earn" - the players own the NFTs and trade them on the protocol.
Hope this helps - now choose between for, against, or don't care.

like every in-game purchase

I will never get NFTs. People are betting 1000nds of dollars for a peace of data that is only valuable because the maker of the pictures said so. Literally nothing gives it value. Only "trust me bro it will be worth it in the future. " people compare it to "real art", like bro your ugly ass monkey pfp isn't going to make you the next Picasso. Just do a limited time offer through patreon or some shit, instead of pretending youre a hot shot because you drew a monkey with a hat. And why are game companies doing it? Boy you already sell exclusive skins and shit. That is literally what a battle pass or a season pass is. Exclusive cosmetics for a limited time and then it's gone forever. Instead you are just selling it instead of tricking people to Increase it's value by auctioning it with just a "trust me bro."

Fuck Money in politics
-
Fuck anyone who supports this in an industry that’s already suffering enough from anti-consumer practices.
-
All the NFTs bros in the comments mad that they can't scam and convince gamers to pay money for their shitty NFTs which have no value at all. Stalker 2 just removed the plan of including NFT. Another L for the NFT scammers.

Even Keanu Reeves thinks NFTs are a joke
-
Glad to see someone standing up for common sense, Rage against the NFT’s - game micro transactions are even worse
