Regarding PlayStation 5 supply shortages and Japan:
"There are several reasons why PlayStation 5s are currently hard to obtain. Supply was extremely intricate under COVID-19, and distribution had to be online-only. Semiconductor supply and demand is also tight across the globe. We are asking our suppliers to increase production, and that will flow into the market in 2021."
"The current supply of PlayStation 5 in Japan is comparable to PlayStation 4 in the same period following its launch. We will continue to focus on the Japanese market and improve supply going forward."
"PlayStation 5 has a lot of software by Japanese developers from early on. And going forward, I would like to strengthen our ties with Japanese developers and release content for PlayStation 5 suited to the Japanese market."
Regarding the cloud games partnership with Microsoft announced in 2019:
"The conversation of exchanging ideas (with Microsoft) is ongoing. It's some extremely interesting stuff, and I hope to announce our cloud strategy when the time is right. While we could use the cloud for our technical infrastructure, the cloud game experience we offer will be unique to PlayStation."
Regarding competition for content such as Microsoft acquiring companies:
"We have been quietly, but steadily investing in high-quality games for PlayStation. And we will make sure the PlayStation 5 generation has more exclusive software than ever before. We have engaged in mergers and acquisitions several times in the past, such as with Insomniac Games. We will not rule out that option in the future."
Ryan also says that where sales usually peak in the third or fourth year of a console's lifetime, he can see a longer lifecycle for PlayStation 5 due to its health post-launch, and is more optimistic about the future now than he was a year ago.
-
Probably wouldn't be confirmed until E3.
-
No it's all rumours at the moment. I can see it being true. Death Stranding didn't do so well. Sony didn't want to partner with Kojima and so he left and went to Google but we all know they story regarding Google shutting down its studios. And it wouldn't be a huge stretch for Microsoft to step in.
-
Not to mention all the unecessary censorship.

Sony is going to have a ton of first-party content this generation, probably more so than any other gen that came before. All of their big studios are operating now with two teams & their designed to support each other to help pump out games at a faster rate. We’re probably gonna see more shorter games like Miles Moreales & The Lost Legacy be released in between the bigger & longer titles. I really don’t think there’s anything to worry about.
You’re asking Sony to get into a bidding war w/ Microsoft & you know that’s a war they can’t win. Sony is very likely to purchase more studios in the future but it’s going to be studios who develop games they publish, not some massive publisher like Square Ennix. You can worry all you want that Microsoft is just going to buy all the publishers out from under them but it’s just not gonna happen. There’s a point of diminishing returns there for Microsoft, especially considering all these games they develop first party are going to be taking a massive hit on direct sales due to their Day 1 Game Pass promise. They just need enough studios to keep the flow of content & tbh they already have that. They might try & buy some more studios or publishers in the future but it’s not really something anyone should be worrying about. There’s too many variables at play & most video game publishers aren’t looking to sell anyways.
-
As far as first party content goes the likely scenario is that both Nintendo and Xbox are going to dust Playstation
How can you say this, when it’s not even a year into the new generation?
Like lol tell me the lottery number too please.
Sony has never faced this much competition but that doesn’t mean they are just twirling their thumbs. Look, I get it. Xbox is #winning. Game pass is great. But casting this kind of BS this early? Come on.
-
That’s a newly created account, gotta be a corporate slave for free. Or maybe they are getting paid, idk. Astroturfing seems likely right now. Damn near every post on here involves someone mentioning Gamepass and Microsoft lmao.
-
It's a new troll account here to promote Xbox and what a shocker he comes from /
which is basically Xbox fanboy central -
*timed exclusive software. When even the first party games start going to PC it’s hard to truly believe him
-
Only two first party games have been ported so far by Sony - one was a sleeper hit (HZD), the other was largely forgotten until the internet learned that it wasn’t getting a sequel & decided it was a hidden gem. You can’t count Death Stranding b/c it was published for PC by 505 games so I have assume Kojima owns the rights to the game & not Sony. Either way, they didn’t publish the PC port so it’s not really them doing the porting.
When God of War & Spider-Man start getting ported to PC, then you might be onto something.
Edit: Change 616 Games to 505; got the name wrong lol
-
published for PC by 616 games
Did you just add 111 to their name on purpose? Is there a joke I'm missing? It's 505games
-
Considering Sony said they were looking into porting other franchises onto PC, we’ll see them on PC in no time.
-
All I want is a discord app. With cross play becoming more mainstream and in game chats sounding like mw2 lobbies discord would get so much use imo
-
I agree. And I don't know why your getting downvoted. Discord integration would be great.
-
Guessing their cloud thing is most likely an extension of streaming PS3 and PS4 games, and not a direct Gamepass competitor. Jim Ryan stated that a Gamepass option wouldn’t be sustainable for Sony, so I don’t think that’s likely.
-
He said that putting new AAA games onto a subscription service Day One wouldn’t be sustainable.
Sony already has a direct competitor in PSNow, it’s just poorly marketed & designed & needs a better job of curation. I guess he could axe the service all together & not replace it with any type of similar service but I doubt it. There’s a demand for that sort of thing in the Playstation ecosystem. It might not get the GP #s without Day 1 adds but it will be successful if they market it right.
-
We actively use PS Now, and download games to the Systems. It definitely seems to be misunderstood by the masses.
-
Marketing for ps now is terrible. Most people still think it's streaming only and don't know you can actually download the ps4 and ps2 games.
-
He said that putting new AAA games onto a subscription service Day One wouldn’t be sustainable.
Sounds like they'll never consider a real competitor to game pass then
-
“This guy wants exclusives? FIRE HIM AND BRING BACK KAZ OR PLAYSTATION IS RUINED!!”
-
Fuck cloud.
Also having ‘more’ exclusives is easy if you just define them as not exclusive at all....the show? Ps titles on pc?
-
I just want SOCOM
-
I hope their Game Pass answer isn't a cloud only service. Cloud gaming is the worst time I've ever had playing video games. And my speed is beyond good enough for it to work. Ping is 2 or 3.
I need to install games on hardware. Thats it. Nothing but this is good enough for me.
-
I’m pretty sure it is going to be cloud gaming, they’ve so much as said so already. The really interesting part is that they ended up partnering with Microsoft back in 2019 specifically to utilize Microsoft’s Azure’s cloud infrastructure. So, whatever it does end up being, ironically, Microsoft will be taking a cut of the profits anyhow. It’s interesting how eager Microsoft is to cut themselves into anything that makes them money, regardless of whether it also profits their competition. I’m not really sure if it’s necessarily a good sign, in general everyone should be more leery of Microsoft as a company.
-
I agree with you.
I bought Game Pass a week ago to use it on my phone with cloud gaming. Because I wanted to play something different then I already had. Omg, the latancy is horrible. It's not the worst in the world, but it really can't compare to hardware installs. So if Sonys big thing is to have Cloud gaming from Microsoft, im not gonna be very happy. But time will tell.
Also, Game pass is not just Cloud Gaming. So for Sony just to do this, and not installs as well is not really a Game Pass competito
. That would be more like Stadia to be honest, only with actual games. -
I believe you Ryan just like you believe in generations.
One less publisher out there with a lot of franchises under their belt so i don't see it,and temporary exclusives are temporary.
-
"We believe in generations"
Wake me up when Ryan makes his words matter, again.
-
Cloud service? If I’m not mistaken, Sony reached out to Microsoft to help them with their cloud streaming services so I don’t know what they’re talking about.
-
It was actually a joint venture. Sony tives them their image sensing tech or some shit while Microsoft helps them with cloud stuff.
-
Just don't betray Kojima
-
Ugh that means more Japanese games that probably aren't worth playing
-
It’s almost like Sony is Japan based company, crazy.
-
PS5 has been out almost half a year and has only had one exclusive game (Demon Souls) that I am aware of. Not a great start.
-
Two. Destruction All-Stars came out in February. The third comes out next week (Returnal)
-
I wish people would also try to include Astro's Playroom in their next-gen games list. I know it was only 5-6 hours , but it felt like so much more than just a controller demo, and definitely counts as a next-gen game, considering it uses every next-gen feature. Also the first next-gen game that's entirely free.
-
I did not know that was only on next gen. I stand corrected. Still poor form from Sony in my opinion.
-
A worldwide pandemic has delayed basically every single game that was slated for a 2020/2021 release. So, not that big of a deal, Horizon was predicted to be a Spring title, Ratchet was supposed to be January...
-
As opposed to what? PS4 only had Knack, Killzone, Infamous by this point and then Driveclub in the holidays of 2014 in terms of "next gen only" exclusives.
PS5 has Demon's Souls, Astro's Playroom, Destruction Allstars already, Returnal coming next week, Ratchet and Clank in June. There's also some "next-gen only" 3rd party games as well like Godfall, Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, etc. already out or coming this year. PS5 is shitting all over PS4's first year, there's no comparison really.
On Xbox side MS has yet to release a single game this generation so far and we don't know when they will. Nothing worth mentioning from 3rd party side either for Xbox besides The Medium, which barring RT looked like a PS2 game tbh.
Nintendo Switch's first year was also mostly just Wii U ports, with only Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Arms holding the fort.
PS5's start is amazing with legit good games that aren't just launch fodder like Knack, Driveclub, etc. clearly were. Maybe Destruction Allstars is but other games Sony has put out will be relevant for years to come.
-
My dude don't talk shit about knack
-
In other words, we'll let MS run off with this and try our best to keep up.
-
Lol. If anyone has to "keep up" it's Microsoft. Which is exactly why the have to spend billions to build an infrastructure of studios like the one SIE already has.
-
Oh no they’re talking about Microsoft all the time, yikes. Can’t go a second on this sub without seeing Microsoft or Bethesda lol
-
Series X has yet to release a single next gen exclusive or even have a release date on any.
-
Believe or not that doesn't matter to me. I play on all the systems and don't get a chub over fanboying over who has what exclusive. Give me access to quality games, don't care what console, and I'll play them
-
Isn’t The Medium next gen exclusive?
-
More exclusives? More remasters and remakes no doubt. Games become ever more expensive and development takes longer. I can’t see Sony bringing out more exclusives. It’s PR talk
-
I can’t see Sony bringing out more exclusives
The one thing they've done consistently without fail? Yeah, I can't imagine how they'll pull it off.
Lol.
-
Sony’s wallet and studios are not unlimited, you know. They released a staggering amount of exclusives for PS4. No way they can top that anymore, it’s just too expensive. Unless they come up with cheaper solutions, like remasters...
-
There are many avenues to exclusives that arent all triple A. Look at SONY exclusives over the past year. There have been a ton
-
Xcloud on PS5 and PSNow on Xbox ?
