- The Last of Us: Part 3 Has a Plot, But It's Not Being Made... Yet
-
It should happen at the very end of PS5 lifecycle.
We already know ND are working on a brand new IP and a remake of TLOU.
ID: gw5kz2cID: gw5tuchThe last two games were released in the last year of each of the preceding console 2013 and 2020, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all If we don’t see a tlou3 until summer 2027.
ID: gw6j9hlI don't expect any less from them.
ID: gw5sjfaI still can't get my head around the remake. Why? Who asked for a remake of a recent game that has already won a crap ton of awards and started off a still relevant franchise with an also recently released award winning sequel. Not to mention the fact we have already had a 60 fps remaster of the first game.
It genuinely feels like an April Fools joke.
ID: gw6hwq0Meh I don't necessarily want it but I get it. Half the time people mention playing TLOU these days they say the gameplay is dated or poor or whatever.
If this is just a quick project that'll get me more TLOU2-style combat to play, I'm all for it.
ID: gw5uw52They confirmed their other projects are in pre production so they're doing it to get the team used to developing on the ps5.
The game will likely have a new graphics system on a par to part 2, implement haptic feedback etc. I don't understand why everyone's so worked up about it.
ID: gw6v5jtWith the upcoming HBO series, my guess is that Sony perhaps saw the wisdom in updating both titles as a relative whole as a two-way promotional strategy.
ID: gw5utgiTechnically it's still just a rumour. And it's possible (just speculating here, nothing concrete) that they might package it with the TLOU PT.2 so it's one big seamless transition between games. But that may not turn out to be true since why would they sell you two games for the price of one? When they can sell you both TLOU PT.2 and TLOU Remake, if it releases.
ID: gw5wiqoI think this is what's got to be frustrating to developers when leaks happened. We know that it exists, but no context other than that. We don't know if it's a 1:1 remake, if there are story changes, combat arenas being reimagined etc. We also don't know how they plan to sell it. What if in the next big PS show they revealed Factions, then showed remastered footage of Part II and finally announced the remake and then revealed that they were all in one package? Imagine how different the reaction would be if that's how we first found out about it.
ID: gw5ym2ySpeaking only for myself:
I think the gameplay in the first TLOU is honestly pretty awful; the combat is very boring and the AI is really bad
I felt TLOU2 had some of the best combat I’ve ever experienced in a game, so that gameplay marries to TLOU1’s better writing is a day 1 purchase for me
ID: gw7uez2I still can't get my head around the remake. Why?
So they can sell people the same game again when the TV show comes out. It's a cash grab

I've always imagined part 3 would be Ellie trying to find a cure with her immunity.
ID: gw5tao1Honestly I think Ellie sacrificing herself for a cure would be a fitting and satisfying end to the series.
ID: gw5zfmtSo cliche... World's too grungy, don't have to kill her.
ID: gw6g5ppI’d actually really enjoy an ending where she’s like 5-10 years older and humanity is almost gone at least she can’t find anyone as the entire population where she is have all turned into clickers or just dead and it ends with her totally alone, knowing that if Joel gave her up that humanity might have had a cure.
ID: gw6b83pIt would completely undermine Joel’s decision to save her in the first game though. A large part of the second game was Ellie trying to come to terms about her survivors guilt and finding a purpose to living besides being the cure. I don’t see naughty dog going that route because it seems too cliche.
ID: gw69o9uI'm split. On one hand I agree on the other I feel like she might be conflicted about doing to herself what Joel ultimately died preventing. Think about it, had he not rescued Ellie in pt 1, Abby woundn't have gone after him in pt 2.
ID: gw5trw8She's probably older with a child, with a similar style as the first game.
You start out as Ellie but at some point control little Joe ( or as an assistant like God of War)
ID: gw6r1lyIt'll be Ellie with Dina's child, who's now a teenager.
ID: gw6su5rAfter part 2 it just doesn't feel like they are trying to tell "big stories". I think of it more like the last of us. They aren't going to cure the zombie invasion.
-
You know, Factions would be nice Naughty Dog.
ID: gw7cz73And a PS5 update too
-
So we have to wait another decade, daaamn it!
-
I always imagined it would be her redemption arc with her protecting some child as Joel did for her.
ID: gw5sa4xEllie will definitely have a redemption arc in part 3 but highly doubt that it will be protecting a child as we’ve seen that twice now with Joel’s redemption arc protecting Ellie and Abbys redemption arc protecting Lev.
ID: gw6uyz4It'll be Ellie running an orphanage and taking care of several kids.
ID: gw6kwlxI can’t think of something less interesting than that
-
Why is everyone in here trying to write the story for ND lmao. No offense but your ideas are not good
-
Good to see Haley’s still involved especially from the outset, the two seem to have a good thing going as a writing team
-
If a third is to happen, I kinda hope we can just explore a new story in that world with a new character.
I love Ellie, but I'm fine if they regulated her to a small cameo or mention, just to get closure on her character. I don't see realistically how she would survive a third game. She's been through enough shit, let her get some rest.
ID: gw5mnliI mean, the story is definitely continuing with Ellie. There will be one final part, then if they want to make more Last of Us games you do a different character and see how that goes.
ID: gw5yd0xWouldn't it makes sense for them to continue Abby story after introducing her in part 2?
ID: gw5qi1kI’d like to see earlier in the outbreak, like set in 2014 a year after the outbreak. Give us society’s downfall as the still new fungus takes over
ID: gw5tc0eThat would be interesting from a story perspective, but the infected would be new and fairly weak, there wouldn’t be enough time for bloaters or clickers to be part of that story because they take a longer time after becoming infected to become a thing
-
I always thought that the best finale to this would be that with Joel gone, she goes through with the operation (they find a new surgeon).
It turns out, she survives the procedure.
-
As someone who loved part 2, as part 2 is one of my favorite games this generation, doesn't part 3 feel needless?
The story reached conclusion after the past game, what's the point of continuing?
ID: gw6fin1Thats what I thought with the first game but they brought together an amazing sequel anyways so I would say they earned the trust
ID: gw6v4m1That's what most people said about a part 2 after the first game but here we are.
ID: gw6o064I loved part 2 as well and it already felt needless after TLOU1
-
Did they forget...next gen update for TLOU2?
-
Wonder what happens if the TV show gets ahead of the game?
ID: gw7gjc3The show would then be terrible without the source material to draw from, receive tons of backlash, and no one would care about a third game anymore.
HBO has experience in this department.
-
I just hope their next project, other than the tlou remake, is a new IP. I love uncharted, but I really want to see a new IP from naughty dog now
-
No more Abby, please.
-
I'm fucking downnnnnn take the whole gen to make it naughty dog
-
I really didn't like 2 for its plot overall but I know ND are a great developer so I still have high hopes for their future games. In my eyes they have hadn't had a miss in a decade until Tlou2 which was a great run.
-
I don't really know where they can go from here. Ellie has been through so much shit in the series that it is fast becoming impossible for her to actually survive much longer.
For me, the story should be that Ellie decides that she will give herself over to the Fireflies or an affiliated group to try and save the world and is on a long mission to find them and try to reconcile with Dina too.
As for Abby, I don't want to know what happens next. I really liked her character and playing as her was a lot of fun as was her story, but I'd like to just focus on Ellie as I think playing as two characters affected the pacing of the story and the idea of not knowing where Abby and Lev are, gives allows us to make our own minds up or to return to in a later story.
As cool as The Last of Us 3 would be, I think it's wouldn't work unless you're wrapping up the story.
ID: gw5mwfdI hope it will go someplace new that redditors didn't think of in two minutes after hearing there might be a TLOU3.
ID: gw5unmfThis lol. His whole plot completely retcons the story.

Another TLOU sweeping the awards in the last year of this generation would be pretty epic. lol
