- Jump back into the arena Destruction AllStars first post-launch season today
-
Sony pulling this game from the launch lineup and releasing it for free months later was honestly such a smart move. They saved themselves from a ton of bad press about one of its first console exclusives being a bad game

I was pumped for this game pre-launch and was willing to pay full price. Clocked nearly 30 hours onto it and only stopped playing a few weeks ago because I could no longer find games.
Loved it while it lasted, but my tolerance for thin content when paired with quick, fun, arcade gameplay is greater than most people's.
That said, doubt I'll be hopping back in. I was hoping DAS would be more like Wreckfest, and now PS5 has actual Wreckfest. Think I'll go play Wreckfest.
ID: gx2bv15I tried Wreckfest, got into one demolition match which seemed entirely boring to me, then tried matchmaking for 10 minutes more in a few categories but it just kept going back to searching after it said joining. Seems buggy cause I'm sure people are playing.

Should have made the cars shoot guns
ID: gx2i1yfOr maybe the guns shoot cars?
ID: gx2r71jThe guns that the cars shoot would in turn shoot cars.
-
I like that they accepted that everyone left and they are like “jump back in...”.
ID: gx1smf9Doesn’t help that this month’s PS+ game is Wreckfest…
I’d assume people would rather try something new, than jump back into the same boring gameplay loop
-
I’ll be honest people keep blaming lack of content and lack of ps5s but in my opinion, the game is just not fun. You just drive circles. It doesn’t feel satisfying to explode other cars, and being on foot feels very useless. I don’t think they can fix it just because it’s not fun at it’s core.
ID: gx37xcyYou're right, but I think it can become fun if they come up with a game mode which uses those mechanics differently. Instead of an arena, they could try a race circuit with traps. Instead of just walking around on foot, players could have grappling hooks or jetpacks to pick up powerups or deployable traps. They were too quick to jump into designing the features, when they should've tried to work more on concepts and prototypes.

Wow. Out of all the people i know i was the most excited for this game, and then i played it for a week and got bored. Not only did the devs sit on their asses the past few months after release, not balancing anything, adding no new maps/content, they barely did anything at all.
But now after literally 95% of their playerbase leaving they think it's a good idea to add a "battle pass", while adding ONE new character in the process. Doesn't get scummier than that.
ID: gx1fgdiYeh they aint victims
ID: gx1kqvxThey're also not villains, they just made a video game that people don't like. This original comment here is weird, 'scummy' is a super weird way to describe this situation.
ID: gx1lpbiYeah I was also very into the game at launch and played it pretty religiously for a week or so but hit a pretty hard ceiling in terms of meaningful skill progression and content. Got bored, stopped. Hoped post launch support with at least ONE new gamemode would come sooner than later and its very much so landed on the later side of things now. I have 0 incentive to return and the addition of a Battle Pass just feels like a desperate attempt to claw back engagement. This absolutely needed to be a live game with regular tweaks, content and challenges to keep a playerbase and they fundamentally failed at that.
ID: gx1vyggShit, you and me both. I was so hyped for this game when I first saw it. Was thinking it could be the motorstrom type of game on PS3 for the PS5. I highly suggest checking out wreckfest, it is free on Ps+ this month for ps5 players. I had more fun and laughs in that game than the maybe 10 hours or so I played of DS.

No, I don't think I will.

I recently got a pretty lengthy survey that focused on this game. It really made me realize how much I didn't enjoy playing it and I tried to enjoy it.
I am hopeful that there is a new Twisted Metal in the works. Imagine it, TM, dark realistic cars and environments and the destruction (but better) of Destruction Allstars. Huge open environments and online matches involving somewhere around 100 players. Customization that doesn't just rely on preset skins.
Ahh, could be great.
ID: gx1bnwmI got that survey aswell,I felt bad at the end. They really want me to like that game
ID: gx1byvzI ad the same feeling. I sort of hesitated in answering the questions but felt honesty was necessary.
-
This game was the pure definition of "meh".
It had potential, but the moment to moment gameplay just wasn't exciting and there was barely any content. Now they want to come back with a battlepass? Nah, I'm good.
-
It's actually disturbing how similar this has been to Bleeding Edge. The kooky aesthetics, the alright but ultimately shallow gameplay loop, and the slim pickings of a launch that forced it to launch via subscription yet despite that it was dead within the month. They even reviewed similarly on meta.
As such, I also fully expect an announcement of server closure within the year.
-
Get your destruction derby fix w/ Wreckfest (PS+ game this month).
No new content/modes till later… It’s still a destruction derby-type game with no racing, and no weapons.
It’s HD Bumper Cars.
And the first thing they want to do is a Battle Pass? Fuck’em.
-
Trying to stay relevant when Wreckfest was just free on PS Plus yesterday. Coincidence?
-
This game just wasnt fun, and i was excited for it. You drive around in circles all game and are only able to use two moves, front and side slams. Once or twice a match you get your special so wow 3 moves while driving in circles. Smashing into other cars lacks impact and doesnt feel satisfying and being out of your car feels helpless and a waste of time. It was a decent concept that had bad delivery. There needs to be more to do.
What we really need is a modern day Twisted Metal with an Overwatch style content system. Maps, characters, skins, events, with new free content/maps/characters dripping in periodically supported by the loot system that gives the cosmetics. They could have multiple game modes, free for all, TDM, tournaments, etc. Single player across the stages with the classic twisted wish endings for each of the characters. I feel that would be a hit.
-
I feel like this game tried to recapture what made Jak X a fun enough game and just missed the mark. I played for about 15 minutes then switched it off. I just didn't enjoy it
-
A bit too late
-
ZZZzzzzz...
-
No
-
Eh, may as well uninstall the game. I played maybe a whopping 5 matches since launch week and got bored of it real quick. If this kind of stuff is all they're adding over the next several months, I think I'll call this one a wash.
-
They should've made a new Motorstorm game. That'd would've been cool.
-
No, I don't think I will
-
Please, don't bring this up. Everytime I see it, I am reminded of the absolute disappointment this game ended up being.
-
No thanks
-
nahhh
-
Nice. I like playing a few games of this every now and again. It's simple fun. I hope they add racing one day.
ID: gx1t19aIdk…
Them being cars and all… adding Racing to a destruction derby game.. like Wreckfest.. may be a bridge too far!
-
I'll pass.
-
This game gets way to much hate
-
Nah you're ok. I think it's better we just let it die a peaceful death.
-
This should have launched on PS4 as well.
ID: gx1jipfThat wouldn't have saved it.
There are tons of multiplayer titles releasing on PS4 and other platforms and the vast majority fail, even when offered up on Plus. In all the years or Plus, there have been exactly 2 (TWO) multiplayer titles that shot off like a rocket (RL and FG).
-
Meh. I uninstalled it as soon as I realised there's no splitscreen.
-
Why are there so much hate on this game? Did I miss a memo?
ID: gx1fh98I was super excited for it and enjoyed playing it a bit, but to be quite honest there’s just not much there :/
The gameplay doesn’t really lend itself to fun moments where it’s chaos with cars crashing but at the same time it’s a little too random to really strategize and find a way to win, unless you’re using certain characters that are OP.
I want to like it though! May check it out after this update but I just really didn’t enjoy this game (which is okay).
ID: gx1k82lIt isn't a fun game, you see everything it has to offer within 5 minutes of playtime, and even though the visuals are nice, the gameplay isn't particularly engaging either.
In a game where you're supposed to hit cars to have fun, hitting them isn't fun in the slightest.
ID: gx1e1gtIt just isn't a great game. Some people like it, some don't. I didn't care too much for it, but it was free so I didn't complain. I just didn't play much.
It doesn't deserve super amounts of hate by any means, just recognize that it won't get awesome reviews with our without additions.
Edit: I think they were going for a twisted metal type game, but it just didn't deliver the way people thought it would I think.
ID: gx1kmozI thought it was fun but when they removed the voice chat I stopped playing. I was having a blast laughing my ass off with others and them taking that away ruined the vibe for me. Idk if they ever added it back in or not.
ID: gx2ssuvThey added that back in with this patch
ID: gx2sp1gPeople overexaggerating. This game doesn't deserve hate of any measure, but it's mostly just poorly designed and not fun during downtime, of which there's plenty of despite the fast-paced nature of the game.
-
How 'bout no
-
Just shut it down. Wreckfest will replace this ill thought out train wreck.
-
No I don't think I will.
-
I can't even buy the pass they're trying to sell, and there's loads of reports saying some players can't even score points in cars anymore. how can this drop get delayed and still come out like this
-
I kinda feel bad for how abruptly I stopped playing this, I can't really pinpoint precisely why, it's just.....bland, I guess
-
No idea why games like this get pushed so much but a game like Split Second on PS3 got binned off and never touched again
-
My least favorite part about this game is that if you want to play with friends, it removes the two best game modes. I get that they're FFA, but like... I'm fine with beating the fuck out of my friends. So are they. It was such a weird choice.
-
Shitty game, a new Motorstorm would have been better.

It's one of those few times where it seems like somebody high enough up the chain actually played the game and went, "uhh that's not gonna be a launch title"
