The PS5 rekindled my Love for Gaming

1 : Anonymous2021/11/11 20:11 ID: qrtvcv

I've owned a lot of consoles over the years. I started with a PSP as a kid, then got a 3DS, Wii U and Switch which I stuck with for many years, and recently an XBox One, a used PS4 and a game-ready PC.

Especially the PS4 and PC purchases from last and this year were results of me looking for something new to play that was really worth my time, because my Interest in games was decreasing rapidly. There were many months during which I couldn't get myself to care about gaming at all, for various reasons.

But since I got my PS5 last week, I've been nothing short of amazed. I only got my hands on the all-digital version and I'm still only going with my 2014 HD TV, but it's been an amazing week. The moment I booted up Astro's Playroom I had a childlike grin on my face, and that joy is currently persisting through Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Marvel's Spider-Man.

Also looking at upcoming PS5 games, I'm nothing short of hyped. I can't tell exactly why the PS5 is making me so happy, but it is, and I wanted to share that here.

EDIT: Thanks for all the Love, everyone!

I'm buying a 4k TV (finally lol) only because of Elden Ring haha. Maybe you can use the upcoming game as an excuse to upgrade your TV too! Ha ha.

Excuses to get a 4K TV are good, money to get a 4K TV is better.

Word. But, let me say this. I upgraded my tv and got my first sound bar mid-way through Rift Apart, and wow…I was missing so much of what that game had to offer. Dolby Atmos sound is amazing.

I paid mine with installments through BestBut with their 24month payment plan, no interest. Only need to put in $70 monthly. I think it's worth it

You're in the exact same spot as I'm.

Rekindled love for gaming but a TV that doesn't quite get its full potential. I'm currently saving up for the LG C1, it's supposed to be a god-like gaming TV. I hope you can get a TV that suits your needs soon!

ID: hkai4ez

Get an OLED like the LG C1 you won't regret it, trust me.

ID: hk9or0g

Me too! Except its for Gran Turismo. But Elden Ring is an auto buy. Huge fan after Bloodborne.

Can't beat the visuals of seeing my ass getting handed to me.

ID: hk9pwas

Give Sekiro a try too. From the same maker as Bloodborne, Demon Souls and Elden Ring... FromSoftware.

I am getting a 4K TV for my PS5. 77” LG C1. Can’t wait until it gets here. PS5 is still in the box until I get the TV sorted.

ID: hk9o6oh

I grabbed one a few months ago and it's a freaking blast to play the ps5! the picture quality, sound, etc. are great without add-ons though I definitely want a soundbar eventually!

Good move demons souls remake looks f***ing awesome

ID: hk9psy8

It was my introduction to Souls games and is the best looking game I’ve ever seen. It sold me on the Souls series too. Now I’m starting NG+ in Demon’s Souls and eagerly waiting for Elden Ring.

If you look at the whole 4k thing objectively we're all being forced by Sony to buy bigger more expensive screens and because these 4k screens are so big we then situate them further away so ATEOTD the picture fits into our FOV at about the exact same size as it would with a smaller screen that we're closer to. Graphics wise the bigger improvement is really on 4k screens that are the same size as older screens and have a shitload more detail when viewed up close. Here's a calculator for anyone interested - as a result of viewing from outside of the maximum distance most people are experiencing 1080p via their 4k screen.

I recommend the LG C1

Absolute game changer

I have been enjoying gaming on my PC less and less the past year and been looking at getting a PS5 this whole year. Something about chilling on the couch playing games really appeals to me. I have my best gaming memories playing on my PS4 for this exact reason. Maybe because I only like single player games and don’t game competitively anymore.

ID: hk9ncyy

Yea couch gaming is definitely more comfortable for low-stress, chill single playing gaming. Way more zen and relaxation. Desk gaming is more suited for intense/competitive gaming.

ID: hk9t5pr

My PC is in bad need of an upgrade so I've been playing almost exclusively on my PS5 lately and loving it. Definitely helps that games like Call of Duty support mouse and keyboard so I still feel comfortable playing online.

ID: hk9w1xj

Do it you won’t regret it, I was tired of sitting at a desk close to a screen on PC and I’m so glad I did. I really only hop on now to play Valorant but it’s been so nice sitting in the couch under a soft blanket with my feet kicked back.

I've watched my friend play on PC and he spends more times messing about with settings of every game rather than actually playing it, I like that everything is fully optimised to look as good as possible on PS5. The next gen SSD's are a real advantage over most PC's as well, loading times are pretty much non existent so you spend more time actually enjoying the game.

ID: hkbqw51

Non existent on pc? I feel like I haven’t had loading times more than 5 seconds in years. We’ve had ssds for a while now, nvme for several years. You’re just sipping on our delight.

still waiting to get my hand on a PS5... Lucky you.

Best Buy has been restocking online a lot lately. You have to be a member, though.

I’ve been Xbox since 360, last PS I owned was the PS2 but I’m truly amazed at the PS5, the controller alone is totally game changing. Please try Returnal it will change your life. I’m currently addicted to Riders Republic which is like digital heroine

ID: hk8v8a3

I really despise Roguelikes, so I don't think I'll go with Returnal, but Riders Republic sounds good, thanks for the recommendations!

ID: hk9qwb8

So much to catch up on! People will invariably tell you to "try this" and "try that." Stick to your tastes, read reviews, and figure out what suits you.

I sometimes refer to

to see, well, how long I can expect campaigns to be. That sometimes dictates my playing habits, since I don't have the capacity to get absorbed into a 30+ hour campaign...unless I am hooked 😉

Happy gaming!

7 : Anonymous2021/11/11 20:58 ID: hk8zkmt

Be sure your new tv has the new hdmi port and supports 120hz! Then you will be real happy as i am with mine.

ID: hk991va

Lg cx or c1 is perfect for ps5…or even c9.

ID: hk9a4lg

Yea i have the C9 and its an amazing tv and with the PS5 it was like i had built a new gaming PC. So happy with it. 120hz ftw!

ID: hk9ecnm

I have the PS5 on my LG CX and wowzers!!!

8 : Anonymous2021/11/12 05:14 ID: hkaredi

I was basically solely on PlayStation up until i had a rainbow 6 obsession, where i bought a PC.

Didn’t realize why i didn’t like gaming as much and i would go weeks without even thinking the PC on. In my opinion, the atmosphere and games on consoles just makes it so much more enjoyable. Just plug and play, no drivers, no worrying about games not being on certain stores. Just buy the game and play the fuck out of it.

So glad i made the decision to change back

In my opinion the PS5 is the best console Playstation has released so far: It is quiet (which is an amazing achievement if you look at how powerful it is), many PS4 games now run with 60 FPS (which is transformative for every game) and PS5 game load times are unbelievable fast.

10 : Anonymous2021/11/12 02:16 ID: hka5jd5

You gotta get a 4K tv man! Makes all the difference!

11 : Anonymous2021/11/11 21:09 ID: hk913w7

I know the feel, the first time booting my console on day 1 (yes I was one of the lucky bastards) the excitement of having it day 1 and having to wait for the day 1 patches to DL was killing me!

But when I did finish lets just say I had the longest gaming session I have had in many years, The grin plastered to my face playing Astros feeling the way the different surfaces where portrayed through the controller as I run around, the jitter of the ball as it rolled and all the other subtitle and not so subtitle feelings portrayed from the haptics had a 40yo grinning like a child at Christmas.

12 : Anonymous2021/11/12 01:31 ID: hk9zsl3

Same here dude! It’s helped me escape some depression and anxiety too

13 : Anonymous2021/11/12 02:24 ID: hka6mvx

You should try Ghost of Tsushima, some of the most fun I’ve had in a game in a while!

14 : Anonymous2021/11/11 22:43 ID: hk9elmr

GET A 4K TV !!!!

you won't regret it I promise.....it will blow your mind I got a Sony 4k TV for like 700 euro on a clearance sale its a 2018 model but man ohh man it is a sight to see

15 : Anonymous2021/11/11 22:42 ID: hk9edyb

It's probably those load times! They are astoundingly fast compared to the ps4 and it makes games more seamless.

16 : Anonymous2021/11/11 22:47 ID: hk9f35m

If you like Astro's Playroom, try Astro Bot Rescue Mission for the VR if you get the chance. Absolutely incredible experience and it makes such an amazing use of the VR.

17 : Anonymous2021/11/11 23:24 ID: hk9k2ag

Ghost of Tsushima: DC is one to check out too. It’s ridiculously pretty on PS5, I am consistently blown away how nice some of the vistas and environments look

18 : Anonymous2021/11/11 23:30 ID: hk9kthj

Same.

Last time I played consistently was when n64 was around and arcades were still a thing. And then nothing really since.

It's been fun learning which style games I like and dislike and having different games that I can play for an hour of mindless relaxation and other games I can jump into when I want to get immersed in a story/world.

19 : Anonymous2021/11/11 23:30 ID: hk9kuhi

I feel ya bud. I got mine in June and have completed 30 games since then. It’s the best purchase I’ve made in a long time.
If you enjoyed Astro’s and R&C then check out Sackboy. It’s a really fun platfmorer.

20 : Anonymous2021/11/12 00:00 ID: hk9o6tn

Been feeling the exact same way mate, coming from a base PS4 the jump to 4K @ 60hz wasnt as mind blowing as I had built it up to be but going back to the PS4 you really notice the difference.

I think for myself its the speed of the console that has made the biggest impact; not having to wait on a loading screen when dying, fast travelling/changing maps instantly or not having to wait for menus just to accept a party invite has just freshened up console gaming for me in a big way

21 : Anonymous2021/11/12 00:07 ID: hk9p16v

Awesome, congrats on the ps5! by the looks of things, ur definitely enjoying it which is great :)!

22 : Anonymous2021/11/12 00:07 ID: hk9p2qq

Astro is so good I actually can't believe it was free with the console

23 : Anonymous2021/11/12 00:21 ID: hk9qryr

Enjoy the best console in the world! 🙂

24 : Anonymous2021/11/12 00:40 ID: hk9t9yr

Rub it in why don't ya

25 : Anonymous2021/11/12 01:41 ID: hka11zu

Man, that moment when you play Astro and you just feel like a little kid again is priceless. Didn't felt that since I player Crash 3 for the first time.

26 : Anonymous2021/11/11 20:28 ID: hk8v8eg

Astro's does such a great job showcasing the controllers abilities. I was, and still am, blown away by it.
