This just shows the console wars are kinda dumb. Both consoles seem to be about even therefore im just glad that the people get to game no matter how they play

PS3 had plenty of issues but at least it didn't have like a 60% fail rate.

A wildly popular platform that pales in comparison to its two main competitors (PS4 and X Box One) and thrives simply due to the ingenious development of Nintendo EPD (and some other reliable studios they use like Monolith soft, Hal Laboratories and to a lesser extent PlatinumGames).
Sony having Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac, Gurilla, and Sucker Punch in their corner is a much better argument on why I should stay in their ecosystem than any cross-gen specs on a Ubisoft or EA game.
ID: hkr9so3Excuse me? Dualsense has changed my fucking life, I play a lot of games on PC using an Xbox controller and it's bullshit rumble makes me feel like I'm playing doom eternal with a sex toy. Dualsense is the BEST reason to play PS5.

But in the modern era when Sony and Microsoft are ordering semi customs derived from the same line of ZEN2 based APUs from AMD, it’s just not that interesting to discuss.

ID: hkqqqk2Agreed that the culture of the console wars is dumb, but IMO console-exclusive games are a much more important point of comparison. There’s absolutely no question that the PS4 was superior the Xbox One in that regard, in the prior generation.
That said, I think Sony is going have a run for its money this gen with Starfield, ESVI etc.
In the medium term this is all good for gamers.
ID: hkqxq1iJust for the record, PlayStation produces kickass exclusives and is good on multiplats. MS spent 7,5 billion because their exclusives are sub-par, so rather than invest in IP creation they did the most corporate thing and decided to just remove historical IP from the competing platforms. Nintendo and Sony, produce exciting 1st party IP, MS with Spencer's leadership subtracts IP from everyone else and then spends another billion in marketing to spin the story so it doesn't look like the scumlord move it was.

It hasn’t mattered much since 2013 because they’re literally more or less the same box with a different skin.

I remember lurking here and other console subs through some of the summer of 2020 and if people would have had this information back then there might have been less console flame wars. This now defunct narrative that the series X was going to be 30% more powerful for multiplats was rather contentious in those days

That’s like saying HP is the only thing that matters for a car when trying to measure it’s acceleration. You have to consider weight, traction, transmission engine layout, RWD/FWD/AWD and much much more.

Slightly better = Ordinary person can't tell difference under normal gameplay circumstances AKA play the games you like and stop caring about this stuff.
ID: hkr7m40True. what is interesting in the section that neither console is significantly better, is that the ps5 is consistently slightly better in performance while Xbox is graphically slightly better.
What's also interesting is the same thing applies with the other columns. Xbox manages to snag a better output in graphics in the ps5 favoured column. While Ps5 is able to snag a better performance output in the Xbox column.
I'm guessing that based on the design choice between the two. Maybe the SSD in ps5 helps with performance since it's faster, while the brute force of Xbox can output consistently better graphics (although I'm guessing both are relatively small differences).
ID: hkrelueIDK why but ussualy xbox has marginaly higher resolution witch in turn IMO leads to more frame drops and worse preformance than PS5. I love DF videos, but man they do put too much emphasis on ocasional fps drops from 60 to 50+. We as a console players are coming from generations where locked 30 was rare. As Bane would say I didnt see the 60 fps until I was already a man 😀 and for me that is very true

I think the takeaway (which is backed up by the Digital Foundry staff themselves) is that this generation is incredibly close in terms of performance between PS5 and Series X, with the performance gap being much more down to per-game optimisation and quirks of the two systems' architectures rather than any significant gap in hardware performance.
I think everyone is a little surprised that the Series X's decently more powerful GPU doesn't seem to actually correspond to any meaningful performance gains, but I imagine that may be something we see tip a bit in their favour over the course of the generation.
Overall though its a great time to be both a Playstation and Xbox user. This generation is really going to be decided by services, exclusives and unique selling points over raw power, which I think is much more exciting overall.

Afaik DMC V trades places between ps5 and SX depending on the rendering mode, so not sure why it's just labled as a minor advantage on SX.
I personally can't tolerate console wars over DF videos though.

And that's why xbox dropped the silly marketing they did regarding power. Power doesn't mean anything, especially with this generation.
ID: hkqpu67To be fair, Sony did the same thing with the PS3 back in the day. And this has always been the case every generation. The issue is that when push comes to shove, if you're a developer trying to put something out on multiple consoles at the same time, it's not worth it to spend insane amounts of effort utilizing different tech on one of them. They tend to focus on meeting the lower spec and then seeing if there is any easy way to optimize the higher one.

DMC 5 should be in the far left category. It says performance is better on xsx but doesn't it have a 120 mode that is better on ps5? So that this would be a wash. I will admit it's been a while since I watched this but I remember the game being basically a tug of war in settings modes.
Either way given that on paper ps5 is technically weaker ever game that has no marginal difference is a win for ps5 in my book.
Also what's not listed here is load times. And that would definitly give more games to the ps5 side. Being back in a game in just a few seconds or fast traveling in just a few (and I do literally mean a few) is a big quality of life improvement. For me it's hard to play last gen or any games lately that does not use the new methods.
Plus nearly all those games have varying degrees of dualsense support which again gives it a notch to ps5.
And to be fair this guy does list that there may be mistakes and or bias added to this list. So it's not fully accurate at all.

I bought the PS5 because I like its exclusives better, so seeing these multiplatform games running better on the PS5 has been a bonus.

Based on my limited experience watching DF breakdowns, slight very much means slight. As in most people won’t be able to tell the difference. We’re talking a percentage or two increase in performance.
One thing I would Havel Ike’s to see in this chart is load times.

TL;DR both consoles are awesome. Pick whichever has the exclusive games you prefer as the difference for cross-platform games is so small it isn't worth the time to discuss it.
