VG Tech: 'Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition' Frame Rate Test (PS5/XBS S|X)
2 : Anonymous2021/03/10 14:55 ID: gqg8plb

PS5 is 1440p / Series X is dynamic with highest being 1800p / Series S is 1170p with temporal reconstruction

PS5 has faster texture streaming (SSD?)

PS5 mean frame rate (59.96) Series X mean frame rate ( 59.89) Series S mean frame rate is (48.05 ouch)

Minimum frame rate

PS5 - 54fps Series X - 53fps Series S - 35fps

Sounds like they’d both be solid if they both ran at 1440p.

The series S is getting more pointless the farther into this gen we go.

Screw locking it at 1440p, I hate this attitude that we either lower the resolution or enforce a frame rate cap, when these games will likely not see an update on future hardware if they do so, which is why vrr is so important as time goes on because they will mitigate these quirks, it's one of the things that hurts games that will likely never see updates, like the last guardian, assassin's creed unity, and a plethora of others, run it as high of a resolution as possible as fast as you can, the ps5 pro/xbox series x pro handle the rest

So the XSX and PS5 are basically the same with the Xbox having a slight edge in resolution, while the Series S gets screwed over (35 FPS?? Really?). Seems to be a common trend.

Devs are really trying to sell the XSX more powerful narrative by pushing it to higher resolution and half assing ps5 port.

Got ps5 and series s. And tbh absolutely love my series s wirh gamepass. Games run well and load fast. Gamepass is amazing. Use my lg cx and although is a difference its a lot more subtle than the numbers show. With xbox looking like they are making a big move this gen its been worth every penny so far

PSA: It's the same resolution found in PS4 Pro (1400p locked) and Xbox One X (1800p Dynamic).

So it seems like the devs didn't really put a lot of effort into it (which is fair, because it's a free upgrade), and just unlocked the frame rates with the previous resolution settings on both consoles.

The lack of optimization is also evident in these weird frame drops. Otherwise, they wouldn't have released it on Series S in this condition. It's a very small team offering a free update, so no complaints from my side.

False, because those consoles could never hit 60fps at those resolutions with a graphical game like this.

Ordered the special edition after platinuming demons souls.

Chose the series x. Seems from this that it was the best call.

Holy fuck the series s performance is shocking. I just don’t see the point of that console. Games rarely seem well optimised for it.

5 : Anonymous2021/03/10 15:27 ID: gqgd3gt

Another great showing for Series S, guess the devs only had access to XSX and PS5 dev kits and tools, once again, truly the only explanation.

ID: gqgefem

Must suck having to develop for two different skus at much larger differences

So much for “just lower the resolution, it scales perfectly”

It’s starting to look like the XSX PS5 gap is very similar to the X1X PS4 Pro gap.

ID: gqgljo6

X1X & PS4 Pro gap is massive compared to the XSX and PS5 gap.

ID: gqh2v3d

Its running in backwards compatibility mode

ID: gqhkzyw

It's a half ass port. Ps4 pro uses 1440p locked just like ps5 and X1X uses dynamic 1800p just like XSX. That's why the gap seems same cz they used the same settings for corresponding consoles and bumped the locked fps from 30fps to 60fps.

This game has the same resolution as it was during Pro and OneX so it is a simple port. PS5 has a higher graphical settings and or higer average resolution in Dirt 5, AC Valhalla, Observer System Redux, Immortals Fenyx Rising.

How are peopling not catching on to this Bc stuff yet? This isn’t a native ps5 game.

Go look at demons souls at 1440p 60fps without drops and come back here and imply this game somehow is a test of the consoles power. I mean technically yea, the series x is more powerful but native games overwhelmingly are running better on ps5 at the moment anyway.

ID: gqgf2iv

Much smaller, and Series X for some reason just pushes higher resolution resulting in lower framerates, makes no sense.

VRR isn’t a valid argument because that amounts to about 1% or less of users

These comments are awesome. People with the most basic knowledge... trying to explain why their console is more powerful, lol.

ID: gqhuq9g

Well it’s clear the Series X can’t handle the higher res without FPS drops

Would be perfect at a set resolution

Random as fuck but that thumbnail really reminds me of the emperor dude from Chronicles of Riddick.
