- The Last of Us Movie Fell Apart Because It Was Too Action-Focused
-
This seems like one of those blessing in disguise situations. TLoU seems much better suited as a TV show than a movie. And being partnered with HBO is really the best you can hope for if you're making a TV show. Especially since they clearly view it as a prestige project, as it's rumored to be the largest Canadian TV/movie production project ever. They've also been able to stack a ridiculous amount of talent behind the show. Which I doubt would've been possible if it were a movie.

If that’s the reason then good
ID: gw730w6Agree, tv has gotten way better than movies anyways when you want to tell a story. MK should’ve been and hbo show
ID: gw76yg4Agreed. This would need to be a 3-4 hour movie to have a decent chance of not rushing the story. MK looked like the movie was shot in fast forward.
ID: gw80tdgEh Mortal Kombat problem is Cole and really poor costume designs on some characters. The only character I think they really nailed was Kang Lao

Good - although I loved the gameplay/action in the game my favorite parts of Last of Us were the story/acting. I think an HBO style series is the best fit for most game to movie types of media.
-
Adapting a 20 hour game to 2 hours for a movie is hard.
The only super long movie I can think of that has been successful from the start was lord of the rings.
ID: gw7q29s20 hours of gameplay doesn't mean 20 hours of story.
ID: gw7v5kmTrue, but the differences in the mediums (video games and movies) make producing a good adaptation difficult.

I feel like one of TLOU's biggest strengths is that it is mainly a personal story about human relationships, but it uses action fueled parts and horror fueled parts sparingly in moments that really matter.

I’m still on the fence about whether the TV show is a good idea
ID: gw73o3xIf it wasn't HBO I'd be extremely skeptical. HBO usually doesn't miss though.
ID: gw741x4In before everyone starts referencing GOT Season 8, as if HBO has never done anything besides GOT...
ID: gw7451sI hope it’s turns out good. Aside from feeling like it needs to do the game justice, the franchise already gets enough hate here because of Part II, can you imagine how much more annoying those people will get if the show doesn’t deliver lol
ID: gw78rsyHmmm are you sure about that?
And that doesn't include WestWorld season 3, GOT season 5-8 or Watchmen.
ID: gw7a5gpAfter knowing the creator of Chernobyl is involved, I reckon it'll be good
ID: gw7awr9Oh shit he’s involved? Damn okay I’m slightly more optimistic
ID: gw73prjTrue, story is nothing original, just another post apocalyptic zombie setting.
ID: gw7485yI disagree but you’re entitled to an opinion
ID: gw74sdaIt is

I mean when they hire directors that haven't even played the game what do you expect? They see zombies, guns, blood not engaging story about Ellie and Joel.
-
Good thing it fell apart then.
-
How about letting games be games? Not every story has to be adapted to a movie screen.
ID: gw83t5yI think there’s enough people that don’t have interest in playing the games/making the time investment but would like to enjoy the story and that’s where movies and TV adaptions come in.
Also it will probably get some of those people to play as well.
-
Very unlike the game.
-
Slow paced stealth TV is what the show needs to be with small stories told each episode to carry the overall arc to finish.
Never would have worked as a movie, too long.
-
Don't get your hopes up this will be absolutely horrible esp if duckboy is involved
They could make a fantastic movie if they just followed the first games story very closely
-
Yes not enough time was set aside for searching desks and rooms for cans and wire.

Exactly, this show has pretty much everything good behind it. I'm hoping it will pave the way for more serious video game adaptions like Bioshock which I think can definitely happen if executives see that there's money to be made for more subtle/dramatic video game stories.
