Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart sold better in its second week than its first in the UK (up 2% in boxed sales).
2 : Anonymous2021/06/20 16:38 ID: h2fypjx

That's pretty impressive since the first week usually counts any and all pre-orders

ID: h2gs0l7

For me, Ratchet and Clank was a game I was going to wait a few months to see if it ever went on sale. But after the reviews and acclaim it got from every corner of gaming, I broke and got it.

ID: h2h0b2d

Same here. I'm about halfway through and I've loved every second of it. Except those fucking zurpstones.

ID: h2gv7az

I’m wondering if this is happening because more people aren’t pre-ordering. I would be so happy to hear that all these week two purchases are from gamers who decided to wait for reviews from other users prior to purchasing the game.

ID: h2h4y0p

This is happening because of a Rift Apart + PS5 bundle launched second week and PS5 availability is still a huge issue so people bought up the bundled versions as well. Still cheaper than scalpers.

Some stores also dropped its price from £70 to £55.

ID: h2gy33l

In the second week we got the PS5 r&c pack. Not having a console, a ton of people bought that one. That could explain a part of the load.

3 : Anonymous2021/06/20 16:35 ID: h2fybcy

It’s a phenomenal game. Hat tip to insomniac providing not one but two great great games for the ps5 in year one, during a pandemic. R&C: Rift Apart is jaw dropping gorgeous, especially on my 65” OLED.

ID: h2g1ty7

Man I keep fucking up. I got the 65" Sony that was hyped for PS5 because of the HDMI 2.1 and other features and I played the PS5 on that for the first month, but moved it into my office with an older 4k 27" monitor and it's still great, but it's only 60hz and I know I'm missing out on some of the true beauty. I only have one more mission left in R&C. Maybe I should move the PS5 and finish it up on that TV. Only games I played on it in that first month were PS4 games too.

ID: h2g3mw6

60hz 4K tv don’t really matter. My tv is 60hz and still looks great and runs excellent.

ID: h2g2rlx

R&c is only a 60 FPS game

ID: h2g3zb9

You can’t play the game above 60 fps anyway lol. The regular visual mode of the game is only 30 fps and the performance modes are 60fps. Maybe you meant your other tv has better 4k visuals?

ID: h2gnv03

LGCX + Rift Apart = sadness.... because everything else looks like trash after playing this

4 : Anonymous2021/06/20 18:10 ID: h2ga1im

Not guilty I bought it day one

5 : Anonymous2021/06/20 16:36 ID: h2fyfws

Probably has a lot to do with quite a few console drops in the past month.

ID: h2g45z8

Especially in the last week. Best week for drops I would guess, got my PS5 from the GameStop drop which seemed to last like an hour for some bundles, as opposed to literally seconds for most other drops

ID: h2g81fd

In the UK we've had loads of drops almost every other day, certainly the best time to get a ps5 since launch.

Anyone that's lurking, and after a ps5, keep an eye on hotukdeals ps5 thread, and PS5UKSTOCK on twitter, their discord group was so on point I got a console for myself and a close friend within 24hours of each other.

6 : Anonymous2021/06/20 18:27 ID: h2gc2xi

This is probably a case where reviews really helped the game. I knew a bunch of people that were on the fence about getting this, but the review scores are generally so good that it helped to push them over the edge.

ID: h2ge6d8

Good game > good reviews > good sales

7 : Anonymous2021/06/20 18:06 ID: h2g9k0z

also ppl like me i was too busy with Returnal and mass effect legendary, and i got ratchet only on the second week 🙂

8 : Anonymous2021/06/20 17:12 ID: h2g2x7z

Most likely just console availability related. I've been seeing a surge in stock this month, atleast in NA.

9 : Anonymous2021/06/20 18:59 ID: h2gfucu

I bought the game yesterday after finishing Returnal. Pleasent change of a challenge and so far loving it! The 60FPS RT mode is amazing.

10 : Anonymous2021/06/20 17:19 ID: h2g3s85

Seems like the $70 price tag isn't really affecting anything

ID: h2g7gn9

Nah, physical games are usually cheaper.

It's lowest price is currently £56, and I think Tesco was selling it for £59 around the release week.

ID: h2gy1vz

I like the comparison, because 56 pound is 75 usd.

ID: h2gh5e0

For, physical discs not a problem. Buy it and sell it. For me, Buy - 4999Rs(67$) Sell- 3800Rs(52$)

ID: h2grdz7

I was going to buy it on a whim last week but balked at £70. I’m seeing it a more reasonable £60 now but I still feel a little ripped off when I got TLOU Part II for £50 on launch day exactly a year ago.

ID: h2gw186

Oh yeah, I'm not looking down on anyone who's waiting to buy. Its certainly making me more selective in which games I buy. I'm just happy they are selling enough at that price point. But I'm also in America. Other country game price increases are crazy.

But I'm also hoping, at least in North America, they stay at that price, because it is more expensive to make high quality AAA games and Sony is one of the few remains publishers that is doing it. Ubisoft sold out, so it's basically Playstation Studios and Rockstar with occasional CDPR and AA studios punching above their weight. Everything else is loot n shoot, multi-player focused and/or indie carbon copies. Chasing the mobile/casual market.

We kinda need Playstation to show there is a market for this because most don't want to do that.

But they do need more consistent with their pricing with each country.

ID: h2gxftb

eBay has a load up for around £50, and some with offers available so you can probably get it in the 40s if you tried

ID: h2ghtcr

It’s been available for £55-60 basically since launch. Plenty of physical copies aren’t being sold at £70.

ID: h2germ8

Bought it for £55, completed it and traded it in at CEX yesterday for £47. Great game

11 : Anonymous2021/06/20 18:12 ID: h2gab7y

Well deserved.

Easiest platinum ever. After I beat the game, it took me another 2 hours to get the platinum.

ID: h2gsvzx

You must not have played Telltale games.

12 : Anonymous2021/06/20 20:26 ID: h2gqmlb

It’s a phenomenal game. I’m loving every minute with it. I think it’ll be a GotY contender if not winner.

13 : Anonymous2021/06/20 20:44 ID: h2gspth

Absolutely fantastic game. Taking it slowly as I don't want it to end.

14 : Anonymous2021/06/20 20:50 ID: h2gtejw

I bought the game because I buy ALL mainline Ratchet and Clanks day one since 2002; Really sucks I can't find a PS5.

15 : Anonymous2021/06/20 21:13 ID: h2gw472

The (strangely UK specific) PS5 bundle with this game included that launched last Monday probably had a lot to do with this.

16 : Anonymous2021/06/20 23:41 ID: h2hci1z

Nice game, shame it crashes often, once preventing me from using the ps5 altogether and the only way to fix it was to pull out the power cord

17 : Anonymous2021/06/20 18:16 ID: h2gas4t

I'm waiting for a discount 🙁 Can't do more than $50-60 for a game right now.

ID: h2ggr50

Same. I would have loved to play this on day 1. But I don't want to pay that much for a game. I was very tempted to still get it but decided I will wait around Xmas time and see how the price is.

18 : Anonymous2021/06/20 21:04 ID: h2guz6m

70 dollars is a lot, I won’t be if this games starts charting number 1 agains once it’s on sale.

19 : Anonymous2021/06/20 20:23 ID: h2gq6xq

This games metacritic score should be higher

20 : Anonymous2021/06/20 17:02 ID: h2g1nng

I don't even like these types of games and I bought it. Why you may ask? Cause there's no damn PS5 games out there, I'm desperate.

Everything is cross platform. I didn't buy a PS5 to play PS4 games at higher resolution. I want true next gen games.

ID: h2g1ubo

There are 6 other next-gen exclusive games. You may not like all of them, but they are available.

ID: h2g2tjk

This is the first brand new, triple A game as far as I know. Also, it's a first party Sony exclusive (and a ratchet and clank game from insomniac), so it's almost guaranteed to be a quality experience

21 : Anonymous2021/06/20 19:02 ID: h2gg6io

Thats because PS5 sales are rising exponentially everyday

22 : Anonymous2021/06/20 19:52 ID: h2glyy7

I will buy it but I just have a lot to play right now so.

23 : Anonymous2021/06/20 20:48 ID: h2gt6bp

Probably because you were able to get it for a better price. Cheapest I could find it before release was £65 which I wasn't paying but I managed to find for for £52 in the second week. Looks like a lot of people did the same thing. £65-£70 is just too much.

24 : Anonymous2021/06/20 21:24 ID: h2gxcny

I got here in Ireland because it dropped to €70 this week in SMYTHS . I can accept €10 increase compared to Ps4 games but €80 is too high for me personally.

25 : Anonymous2021/06/20 21:38 ID: h2gz0mc

Absolute Masterpiece

27 : Anonymous2021/06/20 22:14 ID: h2h354k

I was a second week purchase. To avoid backlog and wasted purchases I promised myself I wouldn't buy a new game until I'm finished with my current. My timing was a bit off finishing my previous and R&C had to wait.

28 : Anonymous2021/06/20 23:01 ID: h2h8a7f

Just platinumed it, pretty easy game even on hardest difficulty but I enjoyed the hell out of it, visually amazing.

29 : Anonymous2021/06/20 23:20 ID: h2had3u

This has probably been said ad-nauseum, but the only thing that's holding A Rift Apart back, sales-wise, is the lack of accessibility of the Playstation 5.

30 : Anonymous2021/06/20 23:26 ID: h2hb0pc

Got it for Fathers Day, can’t wait to dive in 😀

31 : Anonymous2021/06/20 20:56 ID: h2gu40t

Maybe unpopular opinion but as a game RAC is a great game but as a RAC game its middle of the road. It lacked a lot of what made RAC fun. Simple things like skill points, bigger arena fights, and back tracking worlds with new equipment. They would have all made the game feel more complete. Still it is a wonderful game that is well worth playing. The gameplay and story makes it all worth it!

32 : Anonymous2021/06/20 23:15 ID: h2h9smt

nah, as a long term ratchet fan this is by far the best one. the only one to ever top ratchet 2

33 : Anonymous2021/06/20 22:23 ID: h2h459c

I agree completely. The game was fun as just a 3rd person adventure shooter but it lacked all the things that made the past games so fun. Hardly any gadgets and tools. All the metroidvania aspects were basically removed. No cool tools to unlock that let you access inaccessible areas in past maps.

The arena was really lack luster.

The whole "this is only possible on a PS5" thing seemed completely over blown as well. The short distance warping does not require the SSD. Out side of that, the only time any kind of level waping happenend was in a cut scene or the one level where you hit the crystal and go to a different dimension.

the game was fun but a very stripped down version of past games.
