- Exynos with AMD mRDNA 2 to be unveiled in July, peak performance better than next-gen Mali GPU while beating latest Mali even with 30% throttling; Google signing up for mRDNA 2 as well

More rumors. It's seems we are getting closer. Oh the forum is in Korean not Chinese.

AMD might not need Imageon after all.

Pixel 6 pro with amd gpu would be a dream come true

Calling it, crypto mining will happen on phones with mRDNA 2 causing a shortage to consumers.
ID: h2glt0xThe only choice will be iphones then. Truly the darkest of timelines
ID: h2gwoblor cheaper M series phones
ID: h2hbmr3Nah, the biggest bottleneck for ethereum mining is memory bandwidth. And with merge 2.0, I'm expecting for the secondary market to flood with mining cards by this time next month.

" Who are we?! 'Radeon!' Who are we gonna beat?! 'Adreno!' "

I wonder what RDNA 2 means for mobile. I can't really see the RT performance being any good at the tiny power envelope and die size of mobile chips.
ID: h2ge50pIt's custom so they might as well cut out RT parts.
ID: h2h2sr2Then they wouldn't have RT, the thing they're specifically advertising for Exynos RDNA2.
ID: h2h3c30Which RT parts?
ID: h2h3gbpAren't they integrated to the CUs, i'd doubt that's doable.
Also the whole point of rdna2 scalability.
No matter how much you cut the dies, CUs can do rt.
ID: h2gvrymI mean, either they cut it out or it's infinitely better than the alternative by virtue of it being technically possible.
The biggest improvements are likely to be better performance as mentioned in this article and potentially better driver support.
AMD drivers might not have the best reputation but they are infinitely better than Mali drivers.
(You don't see it much cause most phone apps use only the most basic functions. But a lot of the more advanced/vulkan features are just straight up broken, with more complex projects like Dolphin Emulator having a lot of issues just getting stuff to render properly on Mali phones)
ID: h2h1rqwThere is even an reverse engineered open source driver for Mali, spearheaded by developers from Collabora.
It's better than the official driver.
ID: h2hcnxjinfinitely better than the alternative by virtue of it being technically possible.
That's not how it works. Technically possible means nothing at all. If it's not practically usable, it's ZERO. Any chipmaker can release an SDK and do RT with emulation.
ID: h2gqnp5There won't be RT stuff.
ID: h2h6p6rID: h2hcrdsBut there will be.

Apparently Google is rumored to have signed a contract for mRDNA 2 GPU IP. Is Google getting serious about breaking the Qualcomm monopoly and making their own ARM-based SoCs for Pixel devices?
Seems like it, if rumors are true. Honestly, Google needs to make their own hardware.
The irony of it all is that Qualcomm bought AMD's previous mobile GPU IP. Adreno is an anagram for Radeon.
