Remedy: Control Has Passed 10M Players, “Bigger-Budget’ Control Game in Conception Phase

I really liked control and especially the Alan wake tie in. The story hooked me from the start and I’d love them to expand it

ID: h8vrp66

Never was hooked that fast in a game, began to play a few weeks ago and try to use every free minute on it

Ashtray Maze is a top 5 gaming moments of all time for me, so this is music to my ears.

ID: h8suond

That section took Control from a decent game to a really good one for me.

ID: h8szlzq

I tried Control when it was on PS+ and didn’t like it after a couple hours. But I keep seeing comments like this about some Ashtray Maze thing and now I think you may have convinced me to give it another chance.

ID: h8tahfb

Interesting. For me the ashtray maze made me realize that the rest of the game would've been way better if it was more like that section.

ID: h8su0g0

TAKE CONTROL

ID: h8ufe8t

One of the coolest game moments ever. Not to mention how seamless they made the music sync up with your progress in that section.

ID: h8t122f

I tried to navigate it prior to getting the cassette player and was so freaking confused

That was an insanely cool sequence though

ID: h8t121a

I’m not a huge gamer so I usually go in to these games completely blind. And I did not see that coming at all. It was so fun!

ID: h8sz132

I agree, It was a fantastic area and an amazing experience. Glad there was only one which made it special.

4 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:24 ID: h8sj2oj

Fucking amazing job Remedy. I’m so happy control has done so well, my only wish is that with the larger budget they don’t lose sight of what made control so good

ID: h8st8l4

The attention to detail was truly staggering. The game made you actually feel like a powerful being with all those guns and abilities, not to mention the awesome environments and impressive in-game physics. Unlike any other game I've played honestly.

ID: h8stgq2

What i loved about it difficulty wise was, as you said, it made you feel extremely powerful and yet you also felt vulnerable at the same time.

ID: h8szvgb

yeah, the lore in the documents might’ve been my favourite part of the game, hope that level of detail continues.

i actually hoped they would release a mobile app that would let you read the documents you found on your phone instead of reading them in game haha

ID: h8t6cgp

Dead Letters low key had the best documents in the entire game

ID: h8srtv6

They also managed to deal perfectly with the difficulty setting issue
Instead of giving your the shitty traditional easy, medium and hard approach they had one base level of difficulty and a bunch of tweaks you could activate like
One shot kills,
invincibility
and unlimited powers

ID: h8suh07

This made a second play through much more fun honestly, you could actually feel like you had superpowers and I’m so glad they added all those features

ID: h8t69zp

They’ve kept the magic since the Demo Scene, if they end their track record here, then I’d be shocked. They’re one of the few studios that have remained purely themselves across all the 3D generations and it’s fucking beautiful.

Even their “failures” are extremely interesting and push the medium forward. I’m fanboying a bit, but I’m a world of Bethesdas and Blizzards, Remedy deserves all the. Refit in the world.

Control ended up being one of my all time favourite games and I so wasn’t prepared for it. I just ended up picking it up very close to release date and fell in love instantly. I remember seeing the original announcement for it and not being phased, so glad I ended up buying it!

Bring on more Control and Jesse!

ID: h8tu0kb

I just played it a few months ago and I agree, it was a very positive surprise. The worldbuilding and visual design are on another level.

6 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:30 ID: h8sjzyf

Control is an excellent game. I loved the SCP/X-Files/Twin Peaks-esque storytelling and worldbuilding, and the gameplay was quite satisfactory, getting better the more you progress through the game.

I just don't know why this game gave me insane motion-sickness while playing. Maybe it's a filter they used, but even in performance mode and with motion blur and stuff all disabled, I couldn't play the game in long sessions. Took me quite a while to plat it.

ID: h8sxjyg

what is SCP?

ID: h8syf3g

Oh boy you're in for a fun rabbit hole. Google scp foundation. It should be a whole wiki about different objects and entities of varying powers written like a redacted cia briefing.

ID: h8sso8v

Same here. Made the gameplay really frustrating at times, I had to stop playing.

7 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:52 ID: h8sn8ju

I just ordered a copy of Control UE. I am really excited to play this. Its been on my radar for a long time.

8 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:23 ID: h8siyxq

That’s music to my ears. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got coming. Here’s hoping it’s current gen only.

ID: h8spxed

I would love for them to revisit Alan Wake, but I understand they have a tendency to try original things.

In any case, can’t wait for what comes next!

In June, Alan Wake Remastered leaked after placeholder text was discovered in the Epic Games Store. And in March, Games Beat reporter Jeff Grubb said in a Twitch stream that Remedy is working on Alan Wake 2 for Epic as well.

Remedy owns the IP for Alan Wake now, so it’s definitely possible. They signed a letter of intent with Epic to make two games for them, which I think we’ve since discovered are likely to be the bigger budget Control sequel and a smaller size multiplayer game set in the Control universe. At the time, we thought it might be the Alan Wake games. So I dunno if they’re definitely doing them, or doing them for Epic… I just hope that they are, and that they come to console as well. I think both Control projects are coming via 505 Games again, sadly — hopefully they don’t manage to piss off the entirety of their audience like they did with the Ultimate Edition messaging. Alan Wake is a fantastic game and it’d be great if it got a proper remake or remaster, and we’ve all been wanting a sequel ever since.

ID: h8ss8kj

Never played that game unfortunately. Control ticked every box for me though.

ID: h8svcvb

If it's just in conception stage, we won't see this for a number of years still. It'll absolutely be current gen only.

9 : Anonymous2021/08/13 16:25 ID: h8ss906

Control was excellent. Had its flaws but when the product was so good I didn't even care. Ashtray Maze. Holy fuck I had never felt such a thing.

10 : Anonymous2021/08/13 16:38 ID: h8su8gs

I've never wanted a sequel so much. It's one of my favorite games from last gen/current gen. Good music too! I love that if you go into the a basement, this entire track plays. The overall presentation was 100/100.

I'm imagining a scenario where the player works for the bureau and has to collect objects from the US like a MIB or X-files agent. Then.... The Oldest House

11 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:31 ID: h8sk49y

Wonderful, love this Twin Peaks feeling game, can’t wait for the sequel

12 : Anonymous2021/08/13 16:34 ID: h8stk24

Thank god. More Control please. What a fucking awesome world they created. It scratched my X-Files itch HARD.

In my turbonerd head canon, Jesse is Scully’s granddaughter and the Bureau of Control is the eventual evolution of the FBI’s X-Files.

13 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:30 ID: h8sjy3a

Rockstar should give the Max Payne ip back to remedy since they clearly have no plans using it again. Too busy milking open world sandboxes.

ID: h8smzhj

Man, Remedy is beyond Max Payne.

ID: h8ssl8t

So is Rockstar. So if not remedy, maybe give it to someone else. I hate when good ips go to waste. Like how we havent had a jak and daxter for 10+? years

ID: h8sxb5d

Max Payne ended on a pretty solid note. Maybe a remake of 1/2 but outside of a reboot the story is pretty done.

Control is for sure one of the best games that have came out in the past few years. I loved it from beginning to end, even when I was getting my ass kicked by the Anchor and Dr. Hartman. I understand this game’s sequel getting greenlit for a bigger budget but it’s really exciting when a game like this sees success that is comparable to the typical AAA game. I had been telling everyone I know to play Control. It’s a genuinely good game that doesn’t need any over-the-top production. I first played it on PS4 when it was free on PS+, but when I got my PS5 I just had to buy the complete edition, and I’ll be starting my second playthrough on the PS5 version soon.

15 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:41 ID: h8slmfe

Wonder what the actual sales numbers are. 10 million is definitely due to being on PS+, Gamepass and free on EGS.

ID: h8tn3qq

If that's what they needed to get the IP moving, then so be it. I'll buy Control 2 in a heartbeat after playing Control on PS+.

ID: h8so1ch

They said 2m some months ago.

ID: h8sqga4

That was in december to be precise

16 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:33 ID: h8skd30

Great news all around.

17 : Anonymous2021/08/13 16:01 ID: h8solw8

I want a control game where we are out in the field as agents of the bureau. Like investigating altered items on site. I realize this would be harder on the dev team but man it would be awesome.

18 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:48 ID: h8smmro

great news. I liked the game so much that I felt it ended too soon, even after playing through the DLCs. I want to be in that world and hear more stories about it. just hope the bigger budget doesn't steer the game into some other direction

19 : Anonymous2021/08/13 15:54 ID: h8snjfv

More SCP stuff please!

20 : Anonymous2021/08/13 16:04 ID: h8sp1hy

Loved this game so much on the ps5. Can’t wait to see what they have planned next

21 : Anonymous2021/08/13 16:57 ID: h8sx4wb

It was a great game, but for a casual like me, it was too hard. I loved the setting and lore.
