I’ll try the demo but I’ve had bad experiences with this franchise so far

Cool. Downloading now. PS5 size is 3.582 GBs

Beautiful looking game, but there's so much going on on combat and so many special effects that I have no idea what I'm even doing, just mashing R1 and all the face buttons and all the dpads and shit happens. oh well lol
ID: h9ewj4iClassic Tales game.
ID: h9fbq8gI had the exact same experience. Maybe it's because you're dropped into the game a bit into the story so you don't get the full ease into the combat and learn that way, but it quickly became just button mashing for me.
And alll the characters just constantly blabber over each other during combat made it all just super messy and chaotic. Very good looking game though. -
There is a lot of talking at the same time during combat.
ID: h9eegzoAssuming you mean battle talking it's a common thing in the series.
Characters usually have a dialog thing to say what they are doing.
It can be cool or annoying depending on how often the move is used
ID: h9g0gtbXC2 on switch in English is like dying. It’s unplayable for me
ID: h9efxj7Yeah, I found it a bit annoying when I played yesterday. The combat feels great though. One of the smoothest entries in the franchise.

This is a day 1 for me. The demo was really fun, the combat is smooth and fun, and I really enjoy the characters. Graphically it looks good too!
ID: h9ee99aCompared to prior Tales games, the graphics are spectacular. Really enjoying the new direction, I think this will be a day 1 pick for me.
-
Nice! I was looking at youtube vids earlier
Edit: demo is great. Im buying day 1
ID: h9e9o0tDo you only get one class to play in the demo?
ID: h9eabpnNo you get to play ass 6 different classes. The demo is about an hour of gameplay so u get an hour to try each class
-
no europe?
-
It has haptic feedback for each attack during battle.Mentioning it because it hasn't been mentioned.
-
any1 knows if there is a demo for PC?
ID: h9dodlxDemo is only for PS and Xbox. Don’t know why they couldn’t get a PC demo out, sorry
ID: h9dvqilBandai and most japanese developers wont do pc demos out of fear of getting stuff datamined. thats what they say.
-
Do they use adaptive triggers and other dual sense stuff?
Wow Reddit. Downvoted for informative questions…
ID: h9ee6beI didn’t notice anything. R2 is used for dodging and not much else so far.
ID: h9efqp0Well than I’ll buy it for my Xbox
Why all the downvotes? Seriously, what’s wrong with this statement?

Tales of pop in
ID: h9eedr3Scarlet Nexus also had a lot of pop in in the demo but they either fixed it or I stopped caring for the retail release.
-
Yeah, I'm not feeling this one. Not impressed.
The game world is beautiful and color palette is great, but this has to be one of the most static worlds I've ever seen. No water effects, no wind effects. Most objects have invisible walls around them so you can't collide with them making walking really janky sometimrs.
Combat is braindead. Just spamming R1 and X, Square and triangle. The cool double attacks have only one pairing each. I played with the girl using the gun, and using the gun is super janky. I did try others, but it is as braindead with them as well.
All the cutscenes are not voice acted. Skits are fine though and are voice acted. I'm ok with the comic book style of skits, but the lip sync is terrible.
Camping system is barebones. Skit replay is cool, but game gives no info about the skits contents, like who is in it, so you just need to pick them randomly.
The shopkeepper is weird. Like you can choose between crafting and buy, but both have sale on them. Why not just buy/craft/sale all at the same time? Why do they need to be seperated?
Roaming the world concists of just picking up junk.
Subtitles and skit prompts are super small and only pop up in the corners of the screen.
Character designs are solid though.
Waiting for at least 50% sale on this one.
ID: h9eg5mzSerious question - why wait for a sale if you are not impressed altogether? Don't give any of your money if you aren't happy with what you played.
As for me, I found it enjoyable, but this is someone who's played Tales since the days of Tales of Destiny.
ID: h9egoyjThat's a fair question. I should've worded it a bit better. What I mean basically is, if I'm going to give this a chance, it's going to be when it is on sale, because for me, based on the demo, it's not worth the 70€ price tag.
ID: h9eb2r7Tales combat isn't braindead. It gets deeper as you progress further. You need to use certain attacks on certain enemies and you can do combos to maximise them.
ID: h9efqn1You are most likely correct, since I haven't played other Tales titles that much, but the demo did a poor job showing it. But if the full game is better, I'm more than happy to be in the wrong here.
ID: h9f795eWhy is this stuff always downvoted? When I’m parsing my opinion on a game, I want to see opinions both positive and negative. This isn’t even like some dumb ass comments. They are legit things the person found as flaws. I have no horse in the race. I haven’t played the demo and I’ve never played a Tales game. I just don’t Understand why this is downvoted.

If the final product has this PS3 level of pop-in I will not buy this, for me pop-in ruins the experience and is unacceptable.
ID: h9ela2cI've seen a couple comments about "pop-in". What does that mean?
ID: h9eotioWhen loading the graphics isn't fast enough so like in the instance of running around the world map, you'd suddenly see trees/rocks/whatever just "pop in" on the screen out of nowhere.
ID: h9em8ihso do you play any Video Games at all? over 90% of all games with bigger areas have pop in .. be it Assasins Creed .. Call of Duty maps ... Battlefield ... name any game without pop in on consoles
ID: h9exf1bGenerally they are done quite better though. However personally, this isnt s desl breaker. At least i havent seen one be really bad that it would be.

Just finished the Demo. Seems fun. Wonder upon release if it will be fully voiced in English as some of the dialogue was only text.
ID: h9e3y9uIt's intentional. That's how it is in other Tales games.
ID: h9eotg0It’s the same as in Japanese, the main dialogue and the R1 conversations that randomly happen are fully voiced but a lot of the dialogue will be read with the standar 1-2 words spoken while you read the bubble. Just like every Tales game
ID: h9f5i12While I do wish everything were voice acted this is still fairly commonplace in a lot of JRPGs to have lesser dialogue without voiceover. Anything story critical will have voices. I’m sure it cuts down a lot on development timelines not having to do as much voiceover.
ID: h9e7x1cThe producer said main story is full voice, while sub is not.

Played it didn't really like. Combat is good i I dont like that when you walk up to an enemy it just goes into a battle arena. The way the story is told I'm not fan of it. Graphics are good enough and lots of fps hitching in combat.
-
Demo was fun, really enjoyed playing as the Mage
-
Loved it, already had it preordered though.
-
Not impressed. The best thing i can say with it is that the music for the area is very good. Battle music is a bit generic. Combat is brain dead. You can essentially get away with button mashing. r1 3 times then mix it with the painfully little variation with the artes (seriously just 3 artes on ground and 3 artes in air). The d pad AI moves would be better if you had any real control over what they do like having a dpad input for heal. But nope got to rely solely on AI. I pretty much hate this combat system i keep wanting to use forward or back or up or down to switch up and give variation but none of that exists.
The pop in is atrocious and very distracting and is littered all through out the demo. Which makes what would be good looking graphics just an eye sore. Next is when running in warter there is no wet model. You are perfectly dry. So its like you repel water. Just looks incredibly off.
Character and monster graphics are very nice though. Although i pretty much hate the style of nearly all the characters. Seriously this is some of the worst base outfits in a tales game i have ever played.
Ps5 has fast loading which is nice. But again the terrible pop in just ruins it.
The menu is basic as shit and its uninspired and boring.
Hate the after battle talking skits in this game as its as small as possible and in the bottle left hand corner of the screen. Seriously stupid for anyone who wants to play this with japanese va (the english va is horrible in this title).
What looks like should be voiced in game cut scenes aren't voiced and just has a few grunts which is just dumb imo.
The skit system isn't great. Just don't like the comic book look. And the fade in for each panel for it just makes it looks like the game has loading problems.
The camping feature is nice. I like that they finally give you a skit view and cinematic viewer right away.
I know i am a bit all over the place but yeah not a good first impression. I know they said its a work in progress but SE was able to put out a ffviir demo that was like 90% identical to the final bombing mission (they just cut out a couple flash back scenes). And thats how you properly do a demo. This demo is just not a good representation.
The biggest issue is the ridiculous short draw distance that causes the game to have a ridiculous amounts of pop in and LOD switches. Its extremely distracting. And yeah not a fan of the battle system.
-
I'm not impressed with it tbh, combat seems super shallow in the demo.
-
Will buy it in a couple of months since I'm playing persona 5 royal and yakuza collection remastered. Loved tales of berseria
-
The game is gorgeous, the combat feels spammy as hell though. I don't feel like I've any control with what I'm doing tbh.
-
Yeah it didn’t click for me.
I really tried to like it but all I could think is why are enemies so spongy? Why don’t the combos feel good like using Yuri? Why don’t any of the attacks have weight to them? Why does it feel like the combat is on autopilot? Why can’t I stun lock and combo enemies to death?
I just don’t feel like I have control for some reason.
This series has never been good after Vesperia and graces. I was hoping this would capture the satisfying combat from both of those but sadly it’s not doing it for me. It’s a shame because I really like the cast and graphics finally look like they belong on a ps4!
Maybe I got nostalgia goggles on. I don’t know
-
Never played a Tales game but have been strangely hyped for this one. Likely will still just sit back and wait for it to possibly come to gamepass or a good sale.

It's a hit-or-miss franchise for sure. A lot of people swear by Symphonia, but that one kind of bored me. Vesperia I thought was great, Graces F I thought was great minus a super annoying story (world and combat were top notch though), and Xillia I liked. But then Xillia 2 was just okay (too much reused) Zesteria was straight trash, and Berseria, while people tend to love it, left me wanting a lot more from world design and story, at least in the first 7-8ish hours which is where I stopped.
